Roger,
I have to head back to DC for the rest of the day but when I get home I’ll see what I can find for you on TBM here in the States.
As for the IAF stuff they are looking for a Static B-17 for swap.
As for Walters Corsair it was the FG-1D that was sold and the F2G that is at Crawford its under rebuild for flight. He also has remains of anothere Corsair in the B-36 Fus. but no one has been able to get a exact Bu# off of it. Its only a center section.
Talk to you later
Maybe you could give Israeli Air Force Museum a call.
The Israel Air Force Museum, Hatzerim, Army Postal Office Box 02832, Beer Sheva, ISRAEL. Telephone : 972 7 906 428, FAX : 972 7 906 314.
They have a main exhibit US navy TBM and a stored wreck (unkown to me).
The Two Israel TBMS are TBM-3U Bu#91741 N6829C and the other is a TBM-3U not sure the Bu# both of these aircraft are ex Fire Bomber/Bug Sprayers..
They are holding them for trade bait.
So i have heard, but on the condition that they will never fly again.
I was reading a post by someone who had visited him in 2002, and apparently Mr. Soplata hates the idea of flying warbirds (or rather the idea of them crashing). So much so, that he stipulates a “No-fly” clause in the sale document.
Wrong Mondariz,
Not sure where you read such things but I know that the Corsair that he sold a bout ayear ago is under restoration to fly.
As for the TBM he has it has a Turret you can’t see it in that photo due to the trees.
Every year a few warbirds resurface after years of “storage”. Some have been tucked away in the corner of obscure airports, others are found on farms, or hidden in forests/jungles.
I would like this thread to be a collection of such aircraft. Not the ones that have been found and restored, but those who are still waiting for a kind soul (with a lot of money) to restore them to glory.
It would be nice, if posters could include location and if possible also Google earth links.
I think we could list rumours as well. If they are posted with links and seem credible (somewhat documented by articles). Most might have heard about the “forgotten Yak factory somewhere in Siberia”, but who has links to it, or anything else, that might aid its credibility?
Every airport have a squadron of non-flying hulks and some are warbirds who deserves a better fate.
Like this TBM Avenger (Blaine Airfield MN USA):
I wouldn’t be going slamming the person who owns the TBM, it happens to be one Mr. Mike Rawson who is tad busy right now restoring an A-25 Strike for the USAFM, as for the TBM well if it wasn’t for Mikes efforts it would have been scrapped. It was sitting down in Florida at Flying Tigers and was one of the few that wasn’t going to make the trip and was slated to be scrapped. Mike saved it and moved up to his place. He has been gathering parts to restore and hopes to start working on it when he gets the A-25 done. He also has three other SB2C projects that he saved from the scrap folks.
Maybe the next time your at Blaine you should knock on the door and say hello and thank Mike for saving the TBM and the SB2Cs, instead of knocking his efforts.
So Folks,
Let me make it plain for all of you then, this is an election year and their is no way in a Frozen He11 that the United States is not going ot pick the KC767 as the next Tanker. What you guys didn’t read what I put up about they have already started getting the Production Plants ready both in Dallas and Seattle.
There will never be another Non-American Build Military Aircraft in any of the United States Arm Forces(please noted I said Aircraft so please don’t tell me about Helos)
Anyone care to put some rather large amount of money on this with me. it will be the Boeing KC767 and no it won’t be a small order it will be a rather large order with the USAF getting 200 aircraft and the overseas orders will be someplace between 150-250 aircraft.
And why do I say this for the overseas contract because the United States will put Ecomomice pressure on allot of Countrys to buy the Boeing Model.
So I have a 1000 USD anyone care to take the bet
Pondskater,
Actually their are three of the Flying Boats left in North America
The 2 Martin Mars that are being used as fire bombers and the Sikorsky VS-44A Excambian which is on display at the New England Air Museum. The Excambian is the only complete above water Trans-Ocean American Four Engine Flying Boat in the World.
Now their has always been rumors that the United States Navy scuttle the last three Clippers off Baltimore. Now this is one of those stories who do you believe, the reason I say this is that I’ve seen photos of them being scrapped at the Old Baltimore Seaplane ramp and I’ve read the actual Naval disposal reports stating that they were scuttle off Baltimore. Its quit possiable that both are true, I’m still trying to find how many of the Clippers the USN had. If they have been scuttle off Baltimore then we’ll find them its not that deep out there plus I know which paperwork to look for:diablo: .
So Bruce how bad is this Fury I read it flip over but they show no current photos of her.
I’m rather surprised that the FAA/RN is letting this go considering the rather interesting discussion we’ve had on Heritage stuff. I would think there would be at least one Offical English Museum that would/could have this put on display, currect me if I’m wrong on that.
I’ll make it simple folks the Arms Service Committee of Congress has already come out and said that it will not rubber stamp an None=American build/Design next Tanker i really don’t care what all the press reports have said. The 767 is going to win the contract he11 Boeing has already been told to start getting plants ready both in Dallas and Seattle.
As for the comment about Old Tech please really now it will be using the same stuff that is already being used for the P-3 replacement.
Oh and the comment about taxiways and runways hmm I’m guessing most of you have never landed at most of KC-135 Base then.
If they were purchase under Lend-Lease then they had to be destroyed
Two airworthy in New Zealand
ZK-RVM de Havilland DH115 Vampire Trainer T.55 es U-255 (Swiss AF) HB-RVM
ZK-VAM De Havilland DH115 Vampire Mk.35A ex A79-649 (RAAF) VH-ICP
also upwards of 15 ex-RNZAF Vampires survive in storage in NZ, and three others have gone overseas – one to the Indonesian AF museum (in exchange for a Mustang) and two to the Yesterdays Air Force in the USA.
Do you know which two went to YAF since this was one of Davids companys.
To get back to the original request-I’ve found two so far with a Paul Mantz / David Tallichet connection:
Both former RCAF F3’s originally part of the ‘Fliteways Inc’ purchase of 26 airframes.
These are:
17071(VP772)/N6883D – now at the Reynolds Museum, Alberta, Canada
17072(VP773)/N6878D – Apparently now airworthy from Markham Airport, Ontario, Canada ?
Hi Jag,
Do you have any “paperwork” showing that David did have these two airframes I know both were owned by Al Letcher and were in storage in Lancaster Calf. up till 1981 and then they both don’t show back up as change of ownership till 1986 VP772 went to Flight Research while VP773 went to John Downing.
Now the photo I saw clearly shows at least one and maybe two Vampire and both were far from complete or even close to be in any form of airworthy coundition.
I’ll see if I can go over to Wixs and find the photo.
Nashio,
While I can sort of agree with putting Boxcar on the list I tend to actually want to keep it off yes along with Enola Gay they both drop the A-Bombs. Now the reason I would say yes is that each drop two different types of Atomic Fussion Bombs and both are the only two Silverplate B-29s left. But then this would open up allot of other airframes for a World List that while Historical in nature they didn’t do any that change the out come of human nature it could be said that it was the second A-Bomb drop by Box Car that made the Japanese surrender.
Mark,
I would say no on every First Flight while I’ll agree that certain First Flights airframes should be look at and included onto the list.
I guess we could start a thread on all the First Flight airframes and debate each’s merit if being part of any World List.
This has been an interesting discussion and who knows maybe we can all come to a better understanding of what should or shouldn’t be consider part of a Heritage laws when it comes to airframes:D :diablo:
I’ve Googled for info about this aircraft but got no luck…
El Salvador Air Force operated five of these and all i have is a couple of photos.
Does anyone have information about this plane or could recommend me where to find it (book)?
Thanks!
May I suggest that you either pop over to the LAAHS website or contact Tulio over on Wixs I know he can help you out.
Don,
You accuse me of being narrowed mind:rolleyes:
Anyway August I agree with everything you put in your last post. To follow up on a question you ask me Yes I do think we need to narrow it down to and Airframe that Change the History of Mankind.
As we have all read UNESCO outline while we have named allot for good ones of these how many really have help change the History of Mankind.
I do believe we all agree that the Wright Flyer which was restored and by what I was told that over 50% of it is original, then whats next I would have to agree with Bleriot XI and also the X-1.
So would we also include the X-15 and the SR-71 I say no to both but they both change how flight is look for Mankind both aircraft were the test beds for the next Generation of Flight be it Spaced or Sub-Space flight.
As for Passanger aircraft I would have the Comment Prototype and the 707 Prototype but not the 747.
Also we seem to be missing stuff from the Germans and Russians surly there is stuff from these two Country’s that would need to be look at. What about Fokker early stuff.
Its an interesting discussion and sorry Don buts its far from over you might think it is but I and many other seem to think its worth discussion.
Hi Mark12,
I recall sometime back you posted some photo when you stop in at Chino of Davids backyard you don’t recall if you got any photos of the vampire did you. I know that they were in the Yard when the SB2C was their and it was before the Helldiver got its prop on it so the time period would be either late 81 or early 82.
