Lol from where do they get their info? Both the F-22 and F-35 are/will be able to release weapons at high supersonic speeds.

One a different level, hearing Loke and Scorpion82 speaking of “Rafale fanboyism” here when themselves are so often borderline regarding their own beloved planes is funny.

Would they be so pleased by a title like “Typhoon is hottest in bed, esp. with prostitutes” (with naaa kidding in the following article) or “Gripen NG, maybe, but still bribes and bunga bunga persist” ? I’m not so sure. lol

I guess we should rather agree that was a poor piece of journalism and move on. Hopefully the author will realize this by himself and fix it.

I wouldn’t care at all and would read the article first before start rambling about a headline. And btw I didn’t even use the term fanboyism at all.

I personally didn’t understood this article to be a critique at all. But the animosity these days is enormous.

Oh dear what a mess. 🙁
Looks like Japan is in serious trouble right now. Though the flooding of the AB is certainly not the most serious problem they have right now. The threatening nuclear catastrophe is much more dangerous. I hope they can somehow prevent the catastrophe, but it doesn’t look like that right now.

Possibly because of commonality reasons or maybe the Zhuk-A is just not mature enough. Has the BARS-29 ever been tested at all? Remember that the MiG-29SMT uses the same radar.

We’ll see, hopefully this issue is solved quickly. The program is accelerating now with the number of flights rising sharply.

The F-35 fleet has been grounded following an incident with AF-4.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on Indonesia. I agree with Rii there isn’t much sense in purchasing the Typhoon when they already operate F-16s and Flankers.

Come on now Scorpion, who are you trying to kid? The NAO has just said the price is staggeringly higher than any of these fantasy figures you’ve posted. No amount of twisting the books can get around it. I do understand its your favourite aircraft and you clearly feel obligated to defend it against any bad press but you just can’t get any more authoritative than the NAO fgures.

I’m not fooling anyone and these figures I provided aren’t fantasy figures either, but the reported contract values for the individual tranches. As outlined by toan, these figures I stated are the pure tranche contract figures not more not less and I made this clear with the various notes what’s included and what not. Would be fine if you read in the first place, think about it and reply instead of accusing me for spinning figures because you don’t get the point.

    Tranche cost calculations…

Inspired by my post at F-16.net, here is a more thorough version of the tranche costs and split among the partner nations.

    Tranche 1:
    contracted: September 18 1998
    #ac: 148 (55 UK, 44 GE, 29 IT, 20 ESP)
value: 7 bln Euro (2.625 bln UK, 2.1 bln GE, 1.365 bln IT, 0.91 bln ESP)
Average cost per ac: 47.3 mln Euro

    Tranche 2:
    contracted: December 14 2004
    #ac: 236 (89 UK, 68 GE, 46 IT, 33 ESP)
value: 13 bln Euro (4.875 bln UK, 3.9 bln GE, 2.535 € IT, 1.69 bln ESP)
Average cost per ac: 55 mln Euro

    Tranche 3A:
    contracted: July 31 2009
    #ac: 112 (40 UK, 31 GE, 21 IT, 20 ESP)
value: 6.6 bln Euro (2.3562 bln UK, 1.8282 bln GE, 1.2375 bln IT, 1.1781bln ESP)
average ac cost: 58.9 mln Euro

    Total:
Value: 26.6 bln Euro (9.8562 bln UK, 7.8282 bln GE, 5.1375 bln IT, 3.7781 bln ESP)
    # ac: 496 (184 UK, 143 GE, 96 IT, 73 ESP)
average ac cost: 53.6 mln Euro

    Notes:
    – National cost calculation based on work share 37.5/30/19.5/13 for T1 & T2 and 35.7/27.7/18.75/17.85 for T3A for UK/GE/IT/ESP
    – Tranche contract values are usually rounded figures
    – Tranche cost figures most likely don’t include VAT
    – T3A figure of 6.6 bln (9.1 bln total – 2.5 bln obsolescence removal for T1/2 ac)
    – Numbers according original orders to get the right perspective on costs (no compensation for the UKs diversion of 24 T2 examples to Saudi-Arabia etc.)
    – The tranche contract values are most closely to UFC and exclude R&D, support arrangements, upgrade costs, separate procurement of simulators etc., infrastructure costs…

Are there VAT included in the numbers given in the NAO report ?

I think it is, but don’t nail me on it. It must be taken into account that not all the money has been paid right now and the report insists that costs may rise further or even fall against these predictions.

And keep in mind that the “R&D+acquisition cost” does include upgrades as well! Others may treat upgrades as operational costs rather than procurement costs. If you factor in the additional costs of the Raptors Increment upgrades the price would go north even further. As usual apples and oranges, as people don’t bother to look behind the scenes.
