According to the BBC news this morning the £500,000 was donated by the owner of a football club, but i can`t remember the name.
Maybe Abramovich has a soft spot for his old adversaries?

Sounds like quite a few of us were round Saffron Walden! And at least two of you have made me feel very very green for never having the brass to go up to the airfield. 😮
By the way, I do struggle with the concept of Zoot Horn Rollo and Kylie in the same sig – verily, the mind dost boggle!
Adrian
I remember being in Saffron Walden when HFL were still based at Audley End, and finished their first four Spitfires more-or-less together.
One Saturday all four seemed to be being airtested – it was wonderful watching them playing around Walden being put through their paces. Not to be seen again, sadly- well, not there anyway!

Rather early for the one at Stonor, as he didn’t arrive until 7.30ish. The Rapide was probably heading for Kidlington, as it is being operated out of there on pleasure flights at the moment. Much the same direction as Brize from Headington, though. It was over Marston at 10ish, so I’m sure you saw it a minute or two after me!
Adrian
I *think* There was a Spit flying over Headington, Oxford yesterday afternoon at about 6ish, heading towards JR Hospital. Any conformation?
I saw the DH Rapide as well (or something that looked very much like it) today at about 10ish over Headington Oxford, heading Brize way, it looked like.
BARNOWL
A good weekend – the Dragon Rapide based at Kidlingtonhas come over Oxford so many times that I am beginning to get blase about it, and yesterday at Stonor I spotted a Pitts Special and an all-yellow Tiger Moth (I suspect this was the one whose pilot surfaced on this thread a while back. If it was you over Stonor cricket ground, hi!
But the creme de la menthe was playing cricket at Stonor, opposite the Big House who had a Proms night – opened with a Spitfire! The hazy sky meant that I couldn’t make out the codes, let alone the serial, so I don’t know which one (except that I am guessing a MkVb or a IX), but we got half the display over us – luvverly!
Adrian
(oh, and it was free – what more could one want?)
And there is the story of the ‘bog monster’ “Somewhere in Yorkshire”!!
Errr… What exactly has the bog monster got to do with Wellingtons?

Never a truer word…
Ooh, ooh, you’re going to love this one, it fits sooooo well with the picture!
(drum roll)
(dramatic music)
Many a true word spoken in jet! 😀
(with apologies to Graham Rawle and his Lost Consonants)
Adrian
You did ask. 😉
I did. Me and my big mouth!
Adrian
(now you mention search patterns & reporting fall of shot, the ever-decreasing circles make perfect sense!)
Damn you, you swine! How can we fight an argument like that? 😎
Adrian
Not quite a zombie thread, but perhaps a little green around the gills?
On perusing my copy of this month’s new Other Aviation Magazines Are Also Available (OAMAAA) today I note a piccy of said Walrus in transit, and stating that Solent Sky are looking for backers for a restoration to fly.
I would dearly love to see this strange beast that quite belongs to neither earth nor air nor water in action again!
10 reasons why the Walrus is better than the Spitfire:
10 You could take a willing WAAF out on a nice day and land in the Channel to pass the time in the ASR bunk in the back of a Walrus. You can’t in a Spitfire.

Is that why they called it a shagbat, then? :diablo:
Adrian
Lol, no. It’s a genuine enquiry
Although, I did take this interesting pic whilst on holiday in a secret location, couldn’t possibly say which country it was in.

And the Lord said unto 91 Regal “Thou shalt not say things like that to mantog, for thou wilst only give him ammunition”. And 91Regal didst say this, and Lo! mantog didst play silly beggars with Photoshop.

(another bf who cannot resist a feedline!)
KB, they’re bleedin’ awful! 😀
Aha, it must be an instruction if that’s what happens when you tell us that! Steeeeeeeeeeve, we’ve found the answer. Now what the hell was the question?
Adrian
Is this an order?
Post some photos with a note saying “Hate them!”. We’ll soon find out…
Adrian
Now you know where I get my snappy dress sense from!
Adrian
(Haven’t spotted anything recognisable lately – just a couple of things in the distance that might or might not have been exciting. But to keep us on topic I did crane my neck heartily when I went past Chalgrove in a minibus the other day. No joy, though.)
Sounds like you pays your money and you takes your choice! The answer appears to depend on which doodlebug you saw.
