That looks like one of the ultra-Rare Lotus-Cortina estate cars next to the Seafire?
Blimey – well spotted! Certainly doesn’t look like an ordinary wheel, and the green stripe is right…

Good few days for Essex-based Marauder fans, what with the lovely pics in the latest Flypast as well.
Adrian
Bill Waterton was awarded the George Medal for landing a bent aircraft, so it’s nothing new.

Would a Mosquito with a bomber nose (ie with a bomb aimer’s window) be fitted with machine guns anyway? I would have thought that the breeches would have been in the way of the bombsight? I’m guessing it was done for a film of some sort… Given that apparently 633 Squadron was 1964, and I think the B&W Diana Rigg series was filmed in 1965-6, maybe that’s the likely reason?
Adrian
Won’t disagree… I was going by the highish wing! Mind you, having spotted the Flying Bulls P38 at Sumburgh in 2012, I should still have got it…
Adrian
Any clues in the background aircraft? There’s a Cub, L5, or perhaps an Auster (something pretty tiny, anyway) in front of an Oxford, and a Mossie to the right… I think, makes the eyes ache looking!
Adrian
I’m impressed. Some people really do have too much time on their hands!
That Brantly helicopter hit every branch on the way down when it fell out of the ugly tree, didn’t it?
Adrian
Assuming it’s not the New Avengers, let me know which series – which sidekick, B&W or colour, and I’ll see if I can dig out my Avengers book and tell you more.
If that’s a free channel I may have to investigate, the Avengers is a classic that defined my youth when it was re-run in the 80s.
Adrian
I think the wing of another Spitfire can be seen in the original pic to the right of the one Mark12 spotted, whether that adds anything to the discussion or not…
Adrian
Buckmaster RP151.
Not a bad guess, thanks for confirming that. And, to paraphrase a well known song, please don’t go!
Adrian
What’s the radial-engined aircraft behind in a couple of shots – Buckmaster?
Adrian
Fascinating stuff, thank you for posting, Mark12!
I love the way the Zephyr has apparently been parked by Braille.
Adrian
It’s unlikely to be frost with a field of oats that high, people in shirt sleeves, and leaves on the trees. It’ll be the film degenerating, or the white balance on MK12’s scanner.
Incidentally, I notice the only trespasser in the naughty field is a hut, but Grange Road is packed!
Adrian
I was thinking visiting, rather than staying!
They’d fit in perfectly at OW, but I guess it’s nice to share.
Adrian
Given how close they are, wouldn’t it be great to get the Be2s down on the former RFC Port Meadow airfield?
