Thank you, Mike and Peter! I don’t think I’ve seen a Storch in the air since 1982, so I really must get somewhere where I can see you putting it through its (lack of) paces. I’ve seen the film of Udet (?) chucking one round the sky in the 1930s, but not in the flesh for a long time.

I did, facetiously, suggest that in my post on the original thread… although I suspect that this might well yield more original parts to a flyer than something like P9373. Whatever the case, its quite a find! I was surprised to discover that the blast pens at Twatt had been made from local stone, laid flat, as Orcadians have been doing since the Stone Age, so imagine how surprised I’d have been if I’d found the wing!
The next question, of course, is where did the rest go…
Adrian
Many a true word said in jest.
Blimey! I’m quite surprised by that, because I’d have thought that the BBMF would have had a plentiful stock of the things.
Fingers crossed they get it sorted ASAP and as few people as possible miss out.
Adrian
Oooh, that doesn’t look good – still, as MattCooke says, everyone’s safe (‘plane included) on the ground. East Kirkby’s airworthy Merlins might be getting uncrated earlier than they thought, depending on BBMF’s spares stock? (that’s not a particularly serious suggestion, BTW).
Fingers crossed after the Bourn episode all goes well for the Sunday at Duxford, I want Dad to see them both very, very badly.
Adrian
Ta – yes, no doubting that! I couldn’t get it to give me the right Hardwick…
Adrian
What else could I do?
*Jealous* But if you can, then why not? Don’t blame you one bit!
Yes, that’s the spot. If I could find it on Google Maps I’d agree or disagree, but right now I can’t…
Adrian
Four bright yellow aerobatic types over East Oxford this morning. No idea what!
Adrian
I know they’re all funny in Suffolk, but upside down?
Seriously, that looks great fun, and beautiful flying conditions. Any idea where you were over? I think I can spot an old airfield…

For all and any information on the Canadian Lanc tour in conjunction with BBMF surely the BBMF website and the CWH website are the only two totally reliable sources of information on movements, displays and fly pasts.
Well yes, Charlie, they were both saying they’d be at Bourn, which is why I looked it up and found the event, and it seems they were there, but…. thus sayeth the Cambridge Evening News (my italics):
“Veterans and their families also attended a special afternoon at the Bourn Airfield to watch the last two remaining and functioning bombers reunite.
The event, which featured a variety of aircraft and a 97 Squadron travelling road show, was originally open to members of the public but the organisers changed it ahead of yesterday.
It was held in aid of the RAF Bourn Memorial Fund – a charity set up to create a lasting memorial to celebrate the pilots, ground crew and staff who served at RAF Bourn during WW2.
They’ve missed out on a donation from us!

That sixth photo says it all, Steve. I think you might find an extra follower on your Flickr next time I log in there!
Anyone know why the huge rudder deflection on the Storch? Or is just that it needs that much input to get it to change direction at Storch-mph?
Adrian
Does anyone know what actually happened at Bourn yesterday? I took my parents over, having seen an open day advertised online, opening at 10am, with an all-day hog roast, some light flying, and various trimmings suggesting a small local event. We found… very little! The only open access had a sign up saying “Members, guests and veterans only”, next to one saying “NOT an airshow”, and there was absolutely no-one around to ask what the flip was going on. Meanwhile, those ads suddenly gave a 404 File Not Found error, or just weren’t there at all.
I can only assume that someone advertised publicly a club event that shouldn’t have been, and it wasn’t a wasted day as we visited Madingley Mulch and the Polhill garden centre (we’re easily pleased…), and booked tickets online for the Sunday at DX, but I’d love to know what really went on!
Adrian
(yes, we checked we were at the right Bourn – not Bourne!)
Indeed, I just used Google translate… though even I can translate Heilige Scheisse!
Adrian
I think the most appropriate thing to say to a bang of that size is “Fick mich!”

On behalf of the Lashenden Air Warfare Museum a big thank you to CWHM & BBMF for the wonderfull display at Headcorn today. 2 Lancasters what a sight & sound
Having been at Combined Ops yesterday, I’d like to second that – it was absolutely bloomin’ marvellous! Plus, of course, a huge thank you to whoever booked them. Taking Dad to Bourn next weekend…
