not to those countries of course, but lets say you want to sell it to:
    -belarus
    -turkey
    -egypt
    -south africa
    -angola
    -congo
    -myanmar
    -pakistan
    -iraq
    -india
    -kazakhstan
    -azerbaijan
    -venezuela
    -Indonesia
    -Malaysia
    -Vietnam

and many other places who are either restricted from buying US components or are looking to “break free” from US military limitations…

put in alternative “non-restricted” components and your market grows massively…

Well I certainly don’t want to become mixed up with politics..but to me seems like there are few very OK countries in that list. Actually almost all are, but I can sense that there are some possible conflicts ahead if some are favoured.

There is also the Jevons Paradox…even if you produce a magnificent aeroplane for low price then 50 more countries buy them..and so what CO2 levels rise even from previous levels.

What the brilliant little plane could do is to reduce the gazillion barrels of fossils that are being burned by the megafighters if the huge fighters operating countries could come down and be able to see the forest for the trees !

I realised one little thing here now…

I figured when I had both rockets and a small turbofan that the turbofan inlet doors would have to be closed after mach 1 ( or just before it ).

With these inlet doors closed the intercepting Gekko could ( after climbing at enermous climb rate of of 240 m/s to 12-15 km for instance ) actually dive at over 3000 km/h vertically..not many planes can do that ???

This would save enermous amount of fuel..since there at 15 km if no foe is left plane could glide at 1/17 glideratio even 250 km.

There are extremely few scenarios where a pilot would use after burner in high setting continuously.

A: Interception of bogey that must be reached at all costs.
B: Coming off of a tanker and again must reach point b in absolute minimum time.

Or when facing a Gekko fighter ( on drawing board ) that flies at power to weight ratio of 1.2 with non afterburning turbofan…and even then only to escape ( hand on a e-seat button ) !

    some basics.

-have VERY simple undercarriage… or even no undercarriage at all (belly land / land in net or deploy landing parachute, or maybe have disposable “landing skis” which pop out when landing on grassy surface). save loads of weight and complexity. also simplifies your internal weapons carriage.
-no ejection seat, just jetisonable canopy and parachute for pilot. (or maybe a MB Mk19 seat?)
-no radar or other emitter for stealth purposes. Make the entire surface an RWR antenna looking for multiple frequencies, and have “360 degree” optronic system with thermal cameras for long range passive detection and targeting. data fusion…
-Share that data with all other fighters and ground assets so everyone sees the “big picture” using some laser data links or other difficult to detect data links.
-No OBOGS, or APU on board.
-Use Fly By Light controls with motor actuation (eliminate hydraulics?)
    -Have hand operated canopy

not only will all these measures radically reduce the weight, complexity and price of your aircraft, it would also improve the stealthiness without too much negative consequences for “most” fights.

I have invented a mechanical landing gear system for my previous ( first ac in my blog ) concept MAX III. Practically it could be operated with a small flywheel…crankin in and out ( or lets say it comes out without cranking..but could be made to go up too without cranking too with bypass air )..someone from France was trying to “order” it from me a year ago.

No OBOGS and no APU is easy to implement.

I wonder if mechanical flight controls were possible in a jet that is only 76% of Me-109 G size ?

I think it might be hard to operate today a ( even a small stealth fighter ) plane that has no radar. You cannot operate at night time.

Also a modern jet needs a e-seat..or BRS at least.

    Thanks for the input.

Most of all a PW307A sized engine if tuned for higher top speed could and would save insane amounts of fuel.

    PW370 burns burns 4.5 times fuel ( 1450 kilos/hr 1812 l/hr) than a Me-109 G and 6.3 times more than a Morane Saulnier MS 406 engine. But still it burns 50 times less than a J-20 engine on full AB ( 90 000 liter/hr ).

All this fuel has to be housed inside the plane as well.

The PW307 is a business jet engine with a fan bypass ratio of 4 to 1. This provides great takeoff performance, but thrust falls off quickly as altitude increases. Expect subsonic cruise SFC to be about 0.5, which is great for a bizjet. Medium and high bypass engines do not fare well in supersonic flight. PW307 is a medium bypass engine.

The gearbox on the PW307 is small which limits the size of the electrical generator and hydraulic pumps. It has low pressure and high pressure bleed ports for the environmental control system, but too much bleed will adversely effect engine performance.

Okay thanks…I figured this would be something like this in professional terms.

    It was/is used in a Dassault 7X series…a 3 engines 16+2 bizjet.

But we could also see the PW307A performance as an advantage..it could make a lite /small Gekko climb like a rocket at mach 0.95 !!!

I am afraid that by the time your aircraft has acquired enough space to carry gear needed to function in combat scenario and not just be cannon or missile fodder it wil be up around fifty feet in length and thousands of pounds heavier.

As the old saying goes cannot have your cake and eat it too.

    I doubt that..but I checked..F-22 is able to fit more weapons into concealed department..it has 6 x AIM-120s and 2 x AIM-9Xs..Whereas GEKKO can carry only 4 x MBDA MICA AAMs..they go Mach 4 like AIM-120 as well.

Can anyone give an educated guess what this PW307A could do in an airframe that has 1.31 m2 frontal area ( 19 % of F-22 and 16% of J-20 ) ?

Could it go supersonic ? Into supercruise ?

    http://www.pwc.ca/en/engines/pw307a

It has 29 kN thrust. Fits beautifully into Gekko.

It could have 0.9 thrust to weight ratio with it.

I tried to fit a real afterburning turbofan on it…and you are right..it goes unrecognizable.

I think I wait when a 26-30 kN non afterburning sized engine with enough blow is invented…like the nano bladed PAKFA/Sukhoi new engine developement etc. Then I don’t have to start playing with them rockets.

    F-22 has 16% less frontal area than a J-20 !

    With 25 m2 sideview F-22 is nearly 1/3 smaller in size..just 3.7 times bigger than a Gekko…they have packed F-22 well.

To put it short and sweet : If the Gripen was a US made fighter, it would sell in ****loads.

I don’t think so..Gripen is too small for USA. United States has been to overseas wars now for about 100 years or so with aeroplanes…and when you look at a P-51D Mustang you see what US plane has to be. It has to fly far with pretty fast pace..when you look at a Me-109 G you see a central european fighter..which is tiny as can be…and has a helluva climb rate double of that compared to P-51D.

J-21 was swedish propfighter…Gripen is newer version of it.

Are you saying you have 22nd PAKFA thread…and you don’t even know what that inlet is for ???

    😮

    It fires lasers.

Nah, they’re the same kind of air inlets you normally see at the rear end of aircraft – chiefly for the APU, sometimes extra cooling.

They shoot lazers…right…it must be there is Nute Gunray driving it too.

    Are you sure 2 x APU ?

Just like people don’t want a Nokia 3310 to make phone calls but an iPhone 5 to send texts messages and show off the combat aircraft market doesn’t demand a composite MiG-21 with conformal pylons. Today the universal requirement is a modern master of all trades that can do all and more and that can be used to boost the perceived status of one’s Air Force among neighbors.

And that is exactly what I am after..not a BLING BLING Cadillac that goes up and down from a push button.
