Is that the same Mr Matt Rimmer whois in the book Final Descent by Terence R Hill, air crashes in wales and the borders. We had some dealings with him at Bletchley Park many years ago, when BARG had the turbocharger from the Plynlimon P-38. Which his group demanded back for some museum in Wales. We did give it up!

I think some Bristol fighter’s or Bristol tourer’s where built in Australia a few years ago for a film.
Dont forget that Blue Max and Low and Slow are restoring their BE2C.

The RAF had many DH60M’s used as trainer’s straight from De Havillands. I believe that some impressed moth where used as airfield decoys

To avoid confusion with the Kawasaki Ki-61 Tony, 5th AF directed that from september 1943 all single engined fighters would have white tail surfaces and wing leading edges. the tail marking was brought forward on to thr rear fuselarge to terminate in a straight or horizontal back or sloping line. These markings where used until late 1944.

Mourmelon had at least one large hanger. There are two photos in Victor Binghams ‘ Blitzed!’ which shows damaged Magister and Battle. I have a photo of a damaged Battle on oil drums, with another Battle in the background. So i would think the airfield may have been a good size.
Dave
Thanks Dave, I have just got a copy of the photo, thats what made me ask the question. The Dragon said to burnt at Mourmelon, this didn’t seem to happen. I have a few photo’s of Fairey Battles said to have been burnt, which also did not happen. But then if the germans where close they may not have had time! My father told me that my uncle who was at HQ Reims said that many service personnel where put on a charge at the time for destrorying aeroplane’s, rather than letting them fall into enemy hands.
Dave
I have got a copy of a Horsa cutaway some where i will sort it out.

I watch it found the commentary very poor, as i find with the BBC these days.
Fokker Dr1 and Nieuport 17 replicas flying south of Reading around 9.20 this morning. The Fokker looked like it was painted white or a light colour.
