In line with what SteveYoung is saying, today my father finds out if the growth removed from his eye is cancerous or not…this has been hanging over my family since Christmas, and there have been times when I have watched some of the squabbling here in recent times and thought “c’mon, there are more important things to stress about”…

How true that is. I’m sure everybody’s best wishes and thoughts are with you Ashley. 🙂

I think “cliques” is a rather strong, and derogatory term. I see it that there are definite groups of friends on here – it’s like being in a crowded boozer, if you want to get served and be heard, you need to elbow your way to the bar!

Nice pictures – the gear on the Hurricane looks suspiciously non-standard, and the same goes for the first biplane. The collection looks well cared for though. Nice to see everything undercover.

I find some posters relavent and knowlagable and some closed minded and ignorant – a sort of microcosim of the world in fact.

    I cherish my closed-minded ignorance!

For my twopenn’th, opinions are what make forums such as these worth reading – yes we come to look at nice photographs, and to gossip about the latest Historic news, but a bit of opinion never did any harm. Maybe Snapper’s “pub” anology in General Discussion is a lot more apposite than he realises – forums like these are a bit like a pub. Except they don’t tend to serve frothy pints of Adnams. Like a pub there are pub bores; there are people shouting off their opinions to all who’ll listen, and there are people gradually sliding under the table. There are young people and old(er) people, people with money and without money. Generally we all tend to get along, and the moderators are like the landlord – able to chuck out and bar anyone who ruins the status quo!

My confidence in the project hasn’t been helped by continual rehashing of what amounts to the same press release on the TVOC website. Evasive wooly statements do little to persuade me to dig deep.

Robbo – you’ve hit the nail squarely on the head. How many times have we had “XH558 gets the green light to fly” press releases, which amount to little more than the same begging letter rehashed.

Two simple questions which need two simple answers – Do the have the money? Do they have it now?.

An awful lot of enthusiasts I know are sick of the whole thing – but it will be great IF and when she returns to the air!

A good place to get Academy kits is the shop at the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum at Flixton. I’m sure they’d be glad of the money too. 🙂

From my experience Academy/Minicraft kits are right up there in the Hasegawa/Tamiya ballpark. Lovely precision-moulded kits, and the decals are spot-on too. In my opinion Academy kits are Hasegawa quality for Airfix money.

Didn’t the new-build 262 also have gear problems? Shame, lets hope the Oscar people get it sorted soon.

Is one man’s terrorist another man’s freedom fighter? Does a corrupt goverment have the right to put someone in jail just because they can? Does that person in jail become a terrorist because a corrupt government tells the world they are?

I fully believe that if someone is suspected of terrorism, be they Irish Nationalist, Islamic fundamentalist, Nazi, lunatic Christian or whatever, you HAVE to take action. No sane and responsible government can allow someone suspected of being a terrorist to walk the streets. OK, so sometimes intelligence gets it wrong, but with terror, it really is better safe than sorry. Would you rather have one man behind bars, or allow him to go free with the slightest chance he’ll strap a bomb to himself and jump on the number nine bus with your wife and kids? That’s not right-wing thinking that’s just plain common sense! And my support for Thatcher has nothing to do with it!

Ren you bandy the term “right-wing” about as if you’re keen to brand me something I’m not. “Right wing” sadly has come to signify racism and intolerance, when in truth “right wing” ideology is merely conservatism – the opposite of left wing socialist thinking.

Amnesty international was an organisation which had my sympathy until they started campaigning for the release of convicted terrorists at which point the MOD banned members of HM forces from becomming members of Amnesty international. They may have done some good but I fear it was very little in fact they , like most bleeding heart groups probably did more harm than good. I’ll now get off my soap box. Sorry but I’m afraid I can’t feel sorry for him. With any luck the organisation will fade into well deserved obscurity.

You’re bang on the money here Mike. Fully agree with you. Any organisation that campaigns for the rights of terrorists deserves utter contempt. Amnesty is nowt but a left-wing rabble-rousing soapbox organisation. They’d have us all wearing hair shirts and whistling the Red Flag in Albanian, given half a chance.
