Latest word on Miss D is that the damage isn’t as bad as first feared, and she might be out of action for a much shorter period than was otherwise thought!
I watched the Southend show on Monday from a barge and we had no programme information. Can anyone tell me who was flying the Sukhoi? We all thought he gave the outstanding aerobatic display.
Fairly sure it was Will Curtis – his name was on the side!
😮
Very nice, I don’t want them to respray it now. It has brought far to much enjoyment already in those colors.
It’s certainly striking in those colours, but up close it really does need a lick of paint and a general sprucing up!
Here’s a few of my pics of Plane Sailing’s Rasta Cat from Monday…

Definitely one of the more “interestingly” painted warbirds on the circuit…
I don’t know – I don’t work in TV, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt on that one.
I do – and know that to give inexperienced presenters (Suchet aside) key roles in a 90 minute live programme is simply asking for trouble. As for having to change the programme at short notice, the beauty of live TV is that it’s constantly changing and presenters/producers/editors earn their corn by reacting in those conditions. Poor programme. Great opportunity missed. 🙁
later heard that she was being readied for a ferry flight to join the one in Oz
That’d be one hell of a job to get airworthy again!
Sad to see the other ex-Heavylift Belfast slowly rotting away at Southend at the weekend. Is the Cosford example the only museum-kept Belfast in the world?
Great clips. Lovely aircraft. Looking forward to seeing my first Connie at Legends. 🙂
The Seafire’s one good-looking machine. Hope to see it across the pond one day… 😎
I DO like information to be accurate, as opposed to a complete load of misinformed plane spotters hearsay!
You REALLY dont want to go near UKAR then (Incoming lads!! )
Let it lie, for God’s sake.
Really, it was an embarrassing shambles, and like dhfan, my VHS is already re-wound ready for something else to go over it!
Agreed. A few points…
Live television needs assured, calm presenters. Suchet was fine, if a little quick to interrupt (fine with politicians on the news, but veterans need to be shown some respect), but the woman was simply atrocious. Words fail me for the bumbling buffoon of a bloke in Germany. Channel Five were playing at being Time Team without sufficiently skilful presenters who clearly did not know or have an enthusiasm for their subject.
People above have said that it helps to educate the kids. If so, why was it shown after the 9pm watershed?
I found it to be patronising rubbish – so much so that I switched off half-way through – something I never do with ANY aviation programme on TV.
Admirable effort from Five to screen a programme like this, but it could and should have been so much better.
The Yak display team at Little Gransden and Rougham…
The Yaks were excellent at Rougham last year – as was the Blenheim, the day before its mishap.
Looks like they’ve deteriorated a lot in the two years since I saw them – I seem to recall the aircraft parked/dumped with them is French in origin, could be wrong though.
Just seen the moving images now – he really is one lucky man. From the commentary it sounds like the aircraft is an original restoration, not one of the new-build Yaks.
Bloody fool.
That’s low! Literally millimetres to spare by the looks of it. What type of Yak is that – is it a “new build” Yak 3?
