Interesting in the Mossie shot that there are people standing on top of the radiators right where there is a big red cross painted indicating “do not stand”! 😀

As Cees says you have the cover from the film cartridge of the standard G45 gun camera there so it’s safe to assume it is indeed a fighter.

I think I agree with the other posters too and would go for a Typhoon or Tempest given that, with the 3-light chassis indicator, it must have a retractable tailwheel (or be a tricycle undercarriage!!!).

As far as I’m aware both the Typhoon and Tempest used the round style of Oil Temp gauge, rather than the later type with the ‘half-round’ glass as used in the later Spits and Mosquito for example, so that fits too.

First picture of the next batch must be a section of rudder trim wheel.

From here I’m not sure how you’d determine between Typhoon or Tempest though with what you have. Sorry, not much help I know.

😀 it is for £5,500,100.00 now and it says Note: This listing is restricted to pre-approved bidders or buyers only. 😀 LOL

I can’t help thinking the seller hasn’t cottoned-on to the fact that he’s having the p*ss ripped out of him with this!
If he’s got any sense he’ll ask eBay to cancel the auction otherwise if he lets it run it’s course he’ll be liable for staggering eBay fees. Even if it finishes at the £7.5m it’s at now eBay will be after him for over £131,000 worth of Final Value Fees! 🙂

I don’t think there’s any doubt the auction itself is genuine as the owner has been interviewed several times by the press now.

I agree. I’m sure the auction itself is genuine enough. However, I suspect the people putting in these ridiculous bids are doing so as a joke thinking that the auction IS a hoax/joke as the item is so unusual, the description is so pathetic and it’s been put up by a new user.
It has all the hallmarks of a hoax auction, it’s just that we know enough about the background of this aircraft to know it (probably) isn’t!

Regarding the Vulcan, is the nose section even salvageable? From what has been said if it’s been open to the elements perhaps even that is a non-starter.

As I understand it the DV windows have been open/missing for a long while and so the cockpit, which has been pretty well stripped out, is now a right mess.

So long as it’s structural strength is sufficient though I suppose it could be restored, but it would be a hell of a job and the sale price would have to reflect that. That’s the reason it hasn’t sold before now. It’s been for sale for ages but the owner has always insisted on the £10k he originally paid for it when it was airworthy! Unreasonable and unrealistic.

Of course it’s hoax bidding. This sort of “auction wrecking” has happened on eBay before and they may well end the auction if requested by the person listing it.

Can’t say I’m dismayed though. That Vulcan wasn’t worth anywhere near the £6k starting bid let alone any more.

After all this aircraft has been through the last thing it needed was to be made a laughing stock of.

Plazz, don’t worry. It’s just an aeroplane. It hasn’t got feeling to hurt! 🙂

but then i asked him what i thought was quite a sensible and realistic question.

in the event of no sale would he sell me the cockpit.

    no reply.

I think this bloke has been asked that question several times in the past and he has never shifted. He’s a totally unrealistic customer and until now has been insisting on an asking price of the £10k he originally paid for it! This is despite him having done next to nothing to preserve the airframe and having allowed it to become nothing other than a danger and an eyesore.

Aircraft preservation at it’s absolute worst. Disgraceful.

Let’s remember that it was the Germans who started indiscriminate bombing of civilian areas way back in WWI by lobbing bombs out of Zeppelins and Gothas. They didn’t seem too apologetic when they did their best to erase Coventry, London, Southampton, Liverpool, Swansea etc., etc. from the map either.

Let’s also remember the 55,000 aircrew of Bomber Command who never returned and who’s memory would be insulted by such an apology.

Bruce, here’s a small version of one I took at Cockpitfest last year when it was still owned by the previous owner.

The Buccaneer is classed as complex.
Because it has no manual reversion If the hydraulics fail it only goes one way……..

The system will not allow one to fly in the UK because of this. I presume the Sea Vixen does have it.

Correct. The Sea Vixen has a RAT (Ram Air Turbine) which can provide power for the flying controls in emergencies.

Do you have any details of the Whitwick event Alan? After the first one of the year was cancelled I heard that the later one would go ahead but I’ve heard nothing since.

Do you have a date for it yet? Also, any truth in the rumour that it’ll be at a different venue?

BTW, I agree on Shoreham. Fewer ‘proper’ aerojumble stalls and a noticable reduction in the number of visitors I thought. Still had a good time though as it’s a great place to meet up with people.

    Fascinating pictures, thanks for posting.

ates hit, maybe you could answer a slightly unusual question for me – do you know, or could you find out the BS381C code numbers and colour names for the desert camo on Spit AB910 please?

    TIA

I remember hearing a talk once which included a story about setting fire to the grass at Culham while taxying a Supermarine Attacker. It was either Dizzy Addicot or David Morgan , I can’t remember which.

A tailwheel jet has never seemed a good idea to me.

There must be a risk of burning the grass with a Vampire too surely? When on the ground the Vamp’s tailpipe is inclined down towards the ground. I believe the Pilot’s Notes also warn about this.
