Now Rockhopper have apparently found commercial levels of oil on Falklands water how will the Islands have to adapt both militarily and civilian to that new para-dime.

On the military side how well set is HMS Clyde and the Falklands fisheries patrol vessel Dorada to safeguard any oil rigs and support vessels from Argentine harassment.

On the civil side where would be best to set up support facilities and a heliport, my gut feeling is Port Stanley at the old airfield and harbour.

Considering the Argentine’s regard it as theft of their natural resources I presume they will be upset, whilst military action is off the table by law and through lack of capacity they can start getting stroppy with Oil industry vessels transiting the area. Which country will end up as the mainland support for Oil operations in the Falklands? Considering South American solidarity I could see it being America or South Africa. This would necessitate a significant build up of logistics support directly on the Falklands.

Anyhow here is a report, start debating…

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/rockhopper-soars-on-success-in-the-falkland-islands-2334967.html

Argentines aren’t likely to do anything unless the extractable oil there is vast, which from what I’ve seen so far, has not been the case.

Also, it’s paradigm, not para-dime, just saying 🙂

As for Hussain, and the other senior Admirals, whether they got their position because of “positive” discrimination, the race card/religion card or because he went to the right school or whatever, there are too many of them and they are being paid too much. In short, its not an efficient use of public money. If he thinks there will be six carriers, thats wonderful and all, perhaps he will be willing to take a paycut so we can afford four more?

Light-hearted reference to race? Keep digging . . . Light-hearted references to race don’t bother me (I make them myself, as do my non-white relatives), but there are references & references. The “oh look, a black man in a senior job!” sort of reference is deeply offensive, even if not deliberately so. It demonstrates an attitude which should have been confined to the dustbin long ago.

The Falklands is not & was not part of the UK, & in 1981 the islands & their people were considered so unimportant by the British government that it passed an act to take away their British citizenship (& those of some other British dependencies). Personally, I thought that a shameful act – but it was done, & only rescinded with respect to the Falklands after the war, just before it was due to come into effect.

Freedom of speech trumps the right to not be offended, deeply or otherwise.

This video is brilliant, I think they should put it on a big screen in Manchester city centre for a few weeks on loop, so everyone can cheer 😀

We all must think about the future 🙂

I am reminded by the same colleague that supposedly in last months IEEE journal there is an article on “3D printing – integrating electronic and power systems in the airframe”.
Presently I am searching for the same article as IEEE have so many journals (ie subsets)
    NICE:D

Makes it a little hard to change a broken board though no? Unless you are talking about only small UAVs?

There have been a number of tantalizing reports of UFO’s from quite reliable witnesses, military and civil pilots for instance: but not one piece of incontravertible evidence – and extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

I’m agnostic on the subject – there’s not enough hard evidence, but there’s a lot of circumstantial evidence.

IMO, the biggest enemy to any real research of UFO’s is not some dark world government conspiracy, it’s the stark raving mad ufologists who jump on any piece of evidence, however poor, and declare it a smoking gun of extraterestrial visitation.

Anyway – this should probably be in general chat right? 😛

If the government recovered a UFO I can hardly see them being all open about it and sharing the tech out. Too many special interests there. As for aliens, the government has a bit of a problem if they are hostile and the government can offer no protection.

Everything was fine till I read PPPs post and saw the ufo pics. Now I’ve got the XFiles tune on repeat in my head.

You mean the pictures of plausable UFOs as opposed to fake TV UFOs?

I don’t think there is really any debate about whether they exist, it’s fairly obvious that they do!

it is you who flamed- the response was actually very subtle and to the point. WIthout having interacted with any IN person you claim to know what level of professionalism they have.

and then you expect others to take your biased and prejudiced posts as being anything but trolling.

I merely posted the default position that must be assumed, they are equal unless you can prove otherwise, which clearly you cannot. You have however posted a biased opinion, by favouring one force over the other.

Nothing is “Royal” about a navy which cannot even maintain a squadron of fast jets for a start.

    Quoted 🙂

As opposed to the “royal” navies of other countries?
I believe other nations, Swedan and Thailand to name two, use the term.
Or has the MOD copyrighted/trademarked “Royal”? 😀

It is just the generally accepted term. You can refer to the others if you like, doesn’t make much difference really 🙂

Sorry PPP, your statements on various topics regarding the French including your rather weird signature, clearly show how impartial you are when it comes to nationalism or what not. Furthermore, if you considered the comparison to the Iranian Navy an attack on the RN, thats no different than Anant who considered the comparison of the IN to the PN likewise. Neither of you are in the right or better than the other per se.

Firstly, you should be sorry, and I accept your apology, thank you. My comments regarding the Pakistani and Indian Navy, in a topic about the professionalism of those navies, is perfectly valid. Discussions of the British Navy are not valid, and have only been made with the intent to provoke anger, or worse to deter others from expressing a view that doesn’t conform to the Indian view else they and/or their country will be flamed.

There is nothing wrong with my signature, and I have discussed this with the administrator on a previous occasion. I am perfectly impartial when it comes to discussing India and Pakistan, though who are you to be telling others who is and isn’t impartial? Who made you judge and jury? As for the French, where is my topic “about the French”, there is no such topic, such topics are not even permitted on this forum. Your implication that I dislike the French is something I find deeply offensive, as I have no bad feeling towards towards the French. It is good that you have apologised for this, but I think it would be better in future if you just leave the statement out completely and focus on the topic, rather than apologise and then make these kinds of statements.

“Rumour has it”….? The Indian nukes are under the control of the Indian decision making authority, which includes the Prime Minister and under operational control of the SFC (Strategic Forces Command) which reports to civilian authority.

India has a democratic setup, and no General, sane or otherwise, has sole discretionary powers over the Indian arsenal.

Ahh so you are an Indian, that rather explains you attitude in the first paragraph.

Yeah I agree, just as Brit Navy is as professional if not equal to a Iranian navy

Actually the evidence was provided by one of the Pakistani Sailors themselves in the form of video, as usual laced with the “professional Pakistani Naval speak”. So this video isnt as you put from POV of Indian Navy, albiet its from point of Pakistani Navy!

So really your only response to my statement is to randomly bring Britain into this, when Britain is actually unrelated. So, we wonder, why did you attack the professionalism of the British forces? Perhaps it is because I am from Britain, and you thought perhaps you might be able to get some revenge for me daring to give an impartial, on-topic opinion, instead of a pro-Indian one that would be more suited to your own world view. Your desperate attempt to provoke me has certainly confirmed to me that my original statement is quite likely to be correct, and confirmatory feedback is always useful 😎
