you say PAF has acquired the tech. what does it mean ? you gave no evidence that SA has ever tested and done the development lifecycle of the missile….do you mean the PAF will do the test program ? manufacture it in Pak ?

Please search your considerable sources for reports of SA testing the bvr missile…

are you still quoting from the same six years old article. I note the use of the word “would” indicating it was just another design idea at that stage.

We need evidence ie. credible reports of the missiles further development, status and the test firings to believe you tales of both the wvr and bvr missiles.

A lot of water has flowed down the river since 1999.

    > proposed

thats the keyword yahoo. your report dates back to 1999 and
some are even earlier in the other thread. where are the reports
of prototype development and test firings ? A typical AAM takes
dozens of test firings from land and air before it enters service.

the chinese secretive as they are have released a few
photos of SD-10 test fires , shown off models in trade shows and released details…so atleast its a real and ongoing program.

    > “very impressive on paper”.

thats the executive summary unless you provide some contemporary evidence all is fine and dandy.

our LCA discussions are based on data released as late
as last week (253 test flights). Is 1999 the newest you have got ? thats almost six years old

I wonder wtf this is about ? must be for the 3 new LSTs ordered.

CAE’s marine division signs contracts worth $19 million

United Arab Emirates’ Baynunah-class corvettes, and a land-based test facility
for the German navy’s F-124-class frigates.
CAE has also signed a contract amendment for the Indian navy’s landing ship program and finalized the contract for the German navy’s K130 corvette program.

The third Russian-made stealth warship “INS Tabar” was inducted into the Indian Navy on Saturday, thereby completing the trilogy of missile-capable frigates for the force.

Yahoo25, aircraft in india are always ordered in small lots usually 20-40 never in one block of 100s. I suspect thats the case in other countries too, looking at progs like EF where planes are built in tranches1,2,3 with progressive changes in eqpt.

You are welcome to build all your “proposed” 300 FC1 in a single year but be aware they will all become obsolete at the same time.

the FC1 is supposed to be ready in 2008, but until now there’s no real word on its test flight progress and how many have been really ordered. I would spend my time in FC1 thread worrying if its ever really going to make it – now that the chinese have cut it loose from SD-10 and their own radar. everything depends now on Pak being able to coax FIAR and S.africa to spend possibly their own money and efforts to make the FC1 a fighter rather than a empty shell tech demonstrator.
This will take additional time compared to using whatever the PLAAF kit consists of. both the missiles you mention are currently not available – the A-darter is reported by the website to be in development phase and the Super darter is a mythical paper missile with no mention of even a prototype in workable form. what is the FC1 even going to be armed with ? guns only for a while ?

Secondly Pak has no experience in license building fighters and this is their first attempt. It looks like FC1 will be quite obsolete and delayed by the time it enters service…it will already be second tranche LCA and MKI-mk2 probably.

you comments about generation are hot air as usual. the
FC1 has a long hard slog ahead of it and its future is shaky
to say the least esp. as PLAAF focusses its attention on ramping up the J-10 variants.

You have made the mistake of locking yourself into a developmental dead end for the next 25-30 yrs :p an
all-metal 60s style airframe is going to fit right in with
the crowd in 2025 like a sore thumb!

ladies and gentlemen, the US will now offer even more generous JSF terms to UK, germany and italy to try and wean them away from the “expensive” EF.

A perfect example of Unkil sabotaging the competition – yet again 🙂

    > Last week’s cuts reduced the RAF to 178 fast jet aircraft
    > – 52 air defence fighters, and 126 ground attack bombers

pitiful remnants of a proud and capable force they are…sad.

maybe the APG79 designed from the ground up as a new radar would
be superior to a older radar(sw upgraded) fitted with a AESA antenna ?

the J-10 and FC-1 will surely undergo atleast one UPG by that time, but
so too the later batches of LCAs would naturally get newer equipment
like the F-16 or Mirage did.

    unpopularity aside isnt the superhornet
    * having a great new aesa radar
    * superb man machine interface
    * great at low speed dawgfights
    * reduced RCS
    * qualified to every weapon in the US arsenal
    * easily able to tear apart the AFs of the countries
US is likely to pick on in future

I think its providing good value until and after the JSF arrives. F-15
purists hate it, but how many A2A combat have we seen lately…mostly
life is the bread and butter commute to the nearby cave or camp to drop a bunch of LGBs and fly back.

Not good enuf. -31M is 1980s kit. world has moved on in last 15 yrs.
only the latest and greatest will do for a very expensive strategic interceptor.

    – somewhat better engineering to reduce weight
    – 2 AL41++ engines (no need for TVC)
    – new radar, a scaled up Bars with new 0.2m2 SAR mode
    – new improved R37 missile, KS172
    – glass cockpit with reduced pilot workload
    – better engines -> better range and uptime
    – LRU based electronics with BITE -> more uptime
    – better intake design for RCS reduction
    – RAM coating and careful antenna design for RCS
    – supersonic speed qualified SAR mode and SRAM type 300km nuke
    tipped A2G missiles
    – four dual pylons on wings for 8 R77, 4 KS172/R37 under fuselage.
    – top speed mach 2.3 (preserve engine life!)
    – thin CFTs scabbed on F15E style for more fuel
    – huge canoe style recon pods and internal bays for recce eqpt
    – ceiling 90,000ft at mach2.3
    – MAWS, active and passive EW best money can buy, towed
    decoy on wingtip.
    – another round radar antenna below fuselage to enable all-aspect “shoot down” guidance of AAMs from a 80,000ft high perch far above the typical 50kft of most fighters.
