I’d like to see proof that the BBC receives complaints “far more than any other broadcasters.”
If it does, it’s probably because it is larger than the others.
The BBC isn’t perfect but I wonder how many other organizations would set up an inquiry to be so self-critical?

Here we go again. I don’t think I’ve misread anything.
This was the original comment – unsupported by any sort of evidence.
Yes, a lot of people complain about BBC, far more than other broadcasters. What does that tell you about BBC?
I had a look at OFCOM as they receive complaints from all broadcasters and therefore it would a good comparison to see if the original point was valid. A quick glance at the last few weeks showed that since January only one BBC programme has had more than 10 complaints in a week. Other broadcasters had many more. Therefore, from a limited amount of data, the original point of steven_wh’s post appeared to be wrong.
You come along and tell us all that you personally have complained directly about the BBC on a number of occasions. Tell me how that fact fits into a comparison of complaints with other broadcasters?
It is indeed a typical retort – one based on fact.

So figures from an independent body aren’t good enough. What a surprise. They don’t fit with your view so must be discarded.
Obviously more complaints about the BBC will be sent to the BBC directly. You wouldn’t complain about the BBC to ITV.

A quick scan through OFCOM’s weekly complaints list and only one BBC show has appeared since the beginning of the year – the rightly criticized Tweenies episode.
It is the BBC broadcasters who are dumbed down and incapable of making quality documentaries.
That is just wrong.

We’ve started to download more and more programmes using the on-demand facility. No ad breaks in those.
The BBC may not be perfect but it is still better than many of the broadcasters out there. Sky are starting to catch though with some quality programmes being produced. I wouldn’t know about ITV as we rarely watch it.
This irrational BBC-bashing is pretty funny though. You’ll miss it when it’s gone.

I think it speaks volumes that some find bureaucracy from the EU unacceptable but are OK with our own overbearing bureaucracy. What it tells me is that the anti-EU stance has become increasingly irrational. Posts on here seem to bear that out.

I posted this s few weeks ago.
My current job is becoming increasingly bogged down with paperwork with everything requiring multiple signatures and counter signatures. A bureaucratic nightmare if ever there was one. Is this down to the EU? No. This is all homegrown bureaucracy that has sprung up in the last few years. Anyone who thinks that exit from the EU will somehow dramatically decrease the amount of red tape is only kidding themselves. We in the UK are fully capable of tying ourselves up in red tape without any help from outside.
The only way this red tape will stop is when there is no industry left to apply it to.

I’ve never had any advanced driver training but it’s surprising how much you can pick up sitting behind a police class 1 driver for 17 or 18 years.
Can you see properly throught the wire grille? 😀
I recall being taught mirror, signal, manouvre. It seems now that mirrors are a waste of time as nobody uses them and on the odd occasion somebody indicates their finger catches the stalk as they start the turn. That’s apart from BMWs, which don’t have indicators.
Mine has. What I have to put up with is morons who think it’s hilarious to cut you up or not let you into the traffic.
For 40-odd years I’ve worked on the premise that 95% of drivers are complete morons and the other 5% are homicidal maniacs. It’s unfair on the small percentage of good drivers but it means I’m rarely surprised.
95% + 5% = 100%. It is indeed a very small percentage that’s left.
I drive 90 miles a day, commuting to and form work and by and large the driving is OK. The motorway is so busy that everyone is doing roughly the same speed anyway. Occasionally, someone leaves it too late to get to their exit or tries to squeeze into a tiny gap but on the whole the standards aren’t too bad. When traffic is moving freely, I find tailgating isn’t a problem either. The worse standards are in towns where people generally drive too fast or have poor lane discipline. It is always worse at the weekends or during holidays when those that don’t drive as much come out to play.
None of us are perfect when it comes to driving and a little more tolerance would go a long way.
