A Diamond Jubilee Tour is planned for the Vulcan this Saturday 29th September, (subject to weather and technical conditions) visiting locations that played a key role in developing this remarkable aircraft.

No indeed, why on earth would Woodford be included? It was only built, tested and delivered from there.

You’ll have to enligten us then as the rationale wasn’t due to be published until tomorrow.

If it was for the benefit of sponsors then fair enough no-one has a problem with that but it is a long way from being a “tour of various airports near to sites that played a significant part in their development or service life”

It isn’t going anywhere near most of them.

Still I’m sure the rationale behind the route will make it all clear.

If you read to the end of their press release it finishes with,

“For those wondering why Woodford isn’t on the list, it’s because we paid tribute on the way back from CarFest earlier in the month.”

Well maybe. But that was unannounced and, according to the VTTS forum, clearance was obtained only at the last minute. What about those who put their hands in their pockets because they thought, not unreasonably, that it might put in an appearance at Woodford, Chadderton, Waddington , Scampton etc?
There is nothing in the press release about why all of the other sites important to the Vulcan have been missed out and many apparently unimportant sites have been added.
    Bizarre. Truly bizarre.

Seriously though, how does this announcement of the tour tie in with the previous thread about places which the Vulcan does fly pasts at requiring all kinds of Policing and traffic enforcement?

As I said on another thread, I think VTTS overdid the requirement for police and crowd control, as this tour suggests. Are they having crowd and traffic control at each of the venues listed? Seriously?

Other threads on other forums are suggesting that this tour is actually a tour for the sponsors. If it is, fair enough, the sponsors do a lot, but don’t try and pretend the tour is something it very clearly isn’t.

There must be a very good reason for maintaining the overseas aid budget. I would have thought that Gideon would have slashed it as has everything else so why has he left this alone?
Whether it keeps potential enemies on our side I don’t know but I’m sure it isn’t just maintained to irritate Daily Mail readers (though personally that would be a good enough reason for me).

    A few recent viewings

    Apollo 18 (2011)
Home movie styled, crappy camera type horror. Not too bad but the camera “interference” became quite annoying.

    Basic (2003)
John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson in a complex, hard to follow military drama about a murder in the jungle. Worth sticking with (and rewinding a few times when key plot points are missed).

    Killer Elite (2011)
Jason Statham and Clive Owen are pitted against each in this special forces thriller. Based on Ranulph Fiennes “true” story about SAS operations in Oman. Good exciting stuff with a few good twists.

    The Manchurian Candidate (2004)

A remake starring Denzel Washington as the soldier trying to find out the truth about a Gulf War hero. Enjoyable thriller.

I like the idea but no, not for me. A tighter crop so just the grey slab is visible, and straightened might work. The shadow might have worked if it was a little more to the right. The leaf(?) is a bit distracting as well. Sorry.

I took the liberty of giving it a bit of a tweak in PSP. I hope you don’t mind.
Does this work any better? I’m not sure.
