Thread 52, from what you say,I recon you have just shot yourself in the foot, Nowt wrong with the “Carry on” films, they were lighthearted comedy films. It’s like music, once upon a time, long, long time ago, I was quite “With it” I just cannot stand now, todays modern so called music, and tend to vere towards light classicle, and Andre Reiu, But thats my choice as yours is yours.I can’t see the need for anyone to throw their toys out of their prams, over such a subject as jokes.

Just as a matter of interest, what sort of jokes, rock your boat?.and splits your sides laughing?.

I like the Goons (although a bit before my time) Python, Spike Milligan , Billy Connolly, Ben Elton, Eddie Izzard, Ken Dodd, Tim Vine, Ross Noble, Dara O’Briain, Lee Mack and lots more.
TV series; The Young Ones, Dad’s army, Bottom, The Thin Blue Line, Blackadder, Father Ted, The Thick of it. Alan Partridge.
I enjoyed new things like Veep, Charlie Brooker’s A Touch of Cloth, Bad Education, Outnumbered, Not Going Out – all sorts really.

Things like Love Thy Neighbour and Mind Your Language leave me cold and slightly embarrassed. Alf Garnett was a parody, a well done parody, of the bigoted types that existed at time, and still do. Let’s face it, the Carry On films were pretty poor stuff really.

Hi Derkf. I would think by now, that you have realised you have to “Ride the storm out” and be pretty thick skinned on this forum at times, Yep, things do get heated, and Andy cast his fly, and you rose to it,As for lightning up, gone are the days when you could watch such programs ont telly like, “Love thy neighbour”, Alf Garnet, etc, who a lot of us loved.but sadly now gone forever.
It’s all down to the “Do gooders” and PC Brigade.
Todays Comedians, can’t tell a joke, without a load of “Fs” and “Cs” thrown in, take out all the swear words, and most would be out of a job. However, thats just my opinion.Lifes far too short, to be a misery.

There is nothing at all wrong with my sense of humour as anyone who actually knows me (rather than judges from a handful of internet posts) would know. There are plenty of modern comedies and comedians that can be very funny and it isn’t necessary to resort to old stereotypes to raise a laugh. It is easy to blame the PC Brigade, whatever that is, but it dawned on society and comedians that making jokes at the expense of black people, the Irish or whatever is no longer acceptable or indeed necessary.
Listen to Tim Vine. No swearing no offense but very funny. Ross Noble, Eddie Izzard, John Bishop and many others a bit of swearing yes but not offensive and still funny.

Nostalgair2. I cannot believe you mentioned Carry On films in a thread about humour. They were terrible at the time and have dated very badly.

I think you are being a little selective with your quote.

The previous message was ‘enroute Woodford’. So clearly not something that had already happened, and had you followed the service you would have had at least some warning that it was due to appear.

Fair enough, I was just using it as an example although I doubt it would be enough time, I think Cholmondeley to Woodford is about 6 minutes flying time. But thanks for informing me about the service. I’ll bear it in mind for the future.

CIRCUS_6, is there any necessity to be rude?

They do via Twitter and Facebook all neatly tied in to the Vulcan ‘app’.

Can I ask what more do you want?

Are these things that have already happened though. There seems less value in saying “overhead Woodford” . That doesn’t give any warning at all for those that want a glimpse on the off chance. “Overhead Woodford in 20mins” now that might be better.

Anyway, I’ve said enough. Nothing is going to change – I missed it, and that’s that.
Thanks to all for their input. Even those who were less than helpful. 🙂

Yes, go ahead if it helps get you through the day.

I’m certainly interested in what you mean by “I can step things up if you like”.
I wonder if the mods are interested in it as well. Then again, probably not.

Baiting? Is that the best you can do? Is that what you come on here for? Baiting other forum members for fun? Jeez…. how sad is that.

The long winter nights must simply fly by.

Who’s the one pontificating? I made a comment about people posting ancient sexist jokes, with, although I say it myself, some humour. Some seem to have taken my remarks somewhat to heart, and even more interestingly, actually took them seriously, then you come along bandying around “judgments” and insults. And I’m pontificating?

As far as the Vulcan thread is concerned why don’t you answer the points on that thread instead of in here?
