Danairboy…I agree you are fully entitled to your opinion but why can’t you just make a bit more effort to post in a less confrontational and immature manner? You have nothing to lose and only thing to gain.

Do you not think it slightly strange that you end your posts with an x?

Yes in Torrance. Wish we were still in Santa Monica! Would be great to meet for a beer…it’ll give me a chance to raise your blinkers too!

I don’t think you’ve affected your chances at all! Friends in BA say there won’t be recruitment other than DEP with plenty of commercial experience for years to come. This is borne out by the fact that several of my mates have just got into BA (poor sods!) without ever having been near the major training schools.

I have shown the OATS APP advertisement in Flight to several people at work and they all agree that it implies things that they cannot provide. Mis-selling perhaps? I hope you are now much more free to actually get to enjoy your flying.

Can anyone answer WHY only one winglet? very odd !

Yes, I can. If one wingtip sustains damage it can be removed and the aircraft operated to base for repair with a performance penalty. The removal of both wingtips gives a performance penalty which is considered too large so therefore cannot be done.

At Virgin we have full airbags fitted into the seatbelts for seats that are considered higher risk in the event of an accident.

Actually I think the A330 has got the same wing. One of the selling points for the A330 MRTT is that the refuelling points are where the pylons would have mounted for engines 1 and 4. All the structure is still there so the modification is relatively simple.

Would it not be an idea to try them both so you can see the difference rather than base on conversation over the garden fence? So many Boeing-only pilots, so many misconceptions.

Max FL on the A340 is FL411. We manage efficiency levels a B744 can only dream about without having to radiate ourselves above the tropopause!!! The A340-600 can be a bit of a guzzler (in fact it will almost burn fuel like a 744!) at much lower levels but it’s not usually a problem as we generally get our level immediately while the Boeings are burning down their weight in the high 200’s!

Quote – “Having a bit more speed always has an advantage”…and that would be that you have to work on average 2 more trips a year to fulfill contractual flying hours! No thanks.

Out of interest, if I had to fly an A330 my conversion course would be 3 hours. How long would your B777 conversion be? 😉 :p 😉

Saturday now and I’m in LA. I got some stunning pictures of glaciers in Greenland on the way over which I’ll post when I get back to Blighty.

We are contracted to do 750 hours a year, which if you knock off a month for leave means that we must average about 67-68 hours a month.
