…also the speed of sound is dependent on the temperature. Therefore Mach 1 is faster at low level than up high because it is usually warmer down low.
Mach 1 = 38.94 times the square root of the Absolute Temperature.
(0 degrees Centigrade = +273 degrees Absolute)
They have always had to since the creation of the microlight PPL.
I think that’s a pretty fair summary. In short, both sides are too proud to lose either of their identities.
bmi wanted a merger, Virgin wanted to takeover. Talks disintegrated. Although bmi is/was a good company, it has had to lower itself to rival certain elements of the low cost market so I am glad that the deal is off the table at the moment. Friends currently at Virgin say they are not particularly keen on a mixing of the two.
Ren – I don’t know the exact situation with the leases but I imagine there is probably some sort of hours flown per day element which makes short sectors with more turnarounds less viable than long periods of time airborne with the occasional stint on the ground.
Green 320 – If a third 330 can be found then the 330 fleet will remain in place. If they can’t find a third 330 they will get a 767 which will then force a decision as to whether to go all 767 for long haul or a mix of 330 and 767. Personally I believe that if the third long haul aircraft is a 767 then the 330’s will go.
Absolutely true. The manufacturers and the airlines solicit the PR they can muster by claiming to have bedrooms and gyms on board but you can be darn sure that when that aircraft arrives it will contain little more than seats.
I looked at getting a video projection TV but didn’t want to have to dim down the living room brightness to get a good enough Image. I also bought a Panasonic DVD-RAM with 40 gig hard disk recently which is a fantastic piece of kit.
Coming back to aviation…the picture of my old Moni on the Monnett thread – that aircraft would cruise at 120mph (top whack 150mph) burning just 6 litres an hour on its KFM 2 stroke engine of just 295cc!!!
Cabin crew like working on the TCX A330’s but that’s probably more down to the fact that it means they are going on a long haul trip.
The only problem with the TCX A330’s is that the leasing terms are set up too much biased towards long haul operations which makes it very expensive to use as a high capacity people mover for short haul.
Adiemus was by……..Adiemus, not Enya.
Does my bum look big in this?
It seems like tonight I’m in danger of derailing every thread on the forum but I feel the need to post a picture of my old Monnett Moni I used to own.
OK complete apologies for the thread hijack but I have to ask ATC Pal is the Wankel Norton the Commander (as opposed to the Commando). If so a mate of mine has just bought one of those and is chuffed to pieces with it.
I have to get my kicks from motorbikes these days…and my new 42″ plasma! 😀

Unfortunately not. My wife demanded a stainless steel washing machine, dishwasher and fridge freezer so the old girl had to be sold to finance my kitchen. I have since tried sitting in the fridge but although the temperatures are similar, the thrill is not! I expect I’ll pick it up again in the future when my kids are older.
The amazing thing about 757 performance is that the steep climb outs that everybody gawps at are most often conducted with only 75% of the available take off thrust! This means that there is still another 10 tonnes of thrust available! When we reposition the aircraft from one base to another empty we never use full take off power as the aircraft becomes almost uncontrollable (and I’m not joking).
