But the shadow you can see on the ice is clearly the shadow of a DH-4 Caribou, possibly the (Kee Bird II) same one used for the operation?
QUOTE]It looks like a C-130 to me.
On closer inspection, i think your right. The caribou’s vertical stab. is a lot more angular.
Come to think of it i think C-130’s have been sporadically stationed at Thule AFB.
It just makes me wonder when these pics were really taken and possible reasons?
I had some of those a few years ago, a Victor B1, a Lightning a Hunter F6 and a Fairey Swordfish.
The Cat’ has got to be one of the most beautiful planes ever made, but beautiful in a strange way, can’t quite but my finger on it.
Whats happening with the CASA 2.111/Heinkel 111, is it being restored to flying or static condition?
I presume they’ll be fitting with merlins if it is being restored.
An article said those snaps were taken in the 2000’s by somebody in a DC-3.

Makes me wonder if this was taken possibly the year after during the “clean up” op.
Any thoughts?
At 14:25, i saw a tri-tail, 4 engine aircraft. It must of been at FL 100 at least, as it was rather small through the binocs’.
Could still here it purring away though!
Bit perplexed though, as all i can think of it being is a Connie, but to my knowledge, none are flying in the UK as of current, closest one being in Switzland, i think.
Thoughts?
The DC-8 is going to be restored? I thought that was slowly being scrapped, it is in the area of death, i know the ex-RAAF 707 is hopefully gonna be restored but that seems to be on hold atm. They main use of the airfield at the moment seems to be training for business jets.
I live in the town, by the station and urself?
Over near Asda, on Rumfields Rd.
That is correct in the DC-8 going to the netherlands.
It is going to be restored to static condition in KLM colors.
The 707 has got be hush kitted before it can fly, not too sure what is going on with it at the moment.
I’ve noticed quite a few heavies taking off from manston in the last couple of weeks, which is a nice change from the boring business jets, including a DC-10, which was nice n’ loud!
Correct. There was a big number of complaints to Greenemyer over the way he handled the whole “mission” including the way he just left the remains. I’ve also heard that the family of Rick Kriege, who sadly died during the attempted rescue of the Kee, have sued Daryll on the grounds that he overworked him. Not sure how that ended up, but i’ve read many articles all saying that Greenemyer is known as quite unprofessional and stupid and is not respected in the aviation industry much.
I always had a funny feeling about him at the way he just sat there and watched the Kee burn to the ground without much emotion.
I’d be completely in bits seeing such a beautiful piece of engineering burn in front of me.
i apologise, it must be the 92 show, had both on VHS at one point! was an amazing display!
Indeed mate, 92 i believe was the last show it did.
A friend of mine has the ’91 open day on VHS, but i only would of been 2 years old at the time, so i don’t remember.
And to the other comment, i’m not sure what the situation was with Lasham, but it was heading west, the only place it could of been going at that time of the day (around 7:30pm) must of been Brize, as she is not allowed to fly at night.
Where abouts in Broady are you mark?
Also just found out the MK DC-8 parked up at Manston is going to be restored.
I could here a merlin doing a display in the distance somewhere from the Broadstairs/Ramsgate area, i could here rolls and loops, but could see nothing…..
Geez, my spelling and wording is awful! Was the spitfire at the quex prom at birchington
That was the Grace spitfire displaying at Quex in Birch, saw it from margate, beautiful display.
