In real life, an EF (w or w/o Pirate) wouldn’t survive against an F 22.

    x 2

Big difference between exercises which are structured and real life, something most seem to forget

    E.g. Australian Collins Class subs.

Or even less topically – licence assembly of UH-60s – I once read that it took 36,000 hours to assemble each Blackhawk in Australia rather than 7,000 hours for assembly in the USA.

Would be interested in some references on this if you have some handy ? if you could post in the naval aviation thread, not sure on your jibe at the Collins though, and what is has to do with what you stated ?

    Cheers

The Australian minister of defence Steven Smith has recently been talking about 6 Anzacll’s, not 8. This was in discussions with the British minister of defence re the new frigates.

Smith would not even know to be honest with you, it was an off the cuff answer in a media conference in Perth

The future fleet of the RAN as it currently stands is in the current White Paper, but a new one is due this year

    http://www.defence.gov.au/whitepaper/

The new Hobart’s are pretty handy in the ASW role, as are the Anzac’s and the future Anzac II’s, with the future OCV’s having the multi tasking roles as well, the future fleet as it stands would be:

    2 x Canberra Class LHD’s
1 x Bay Class, either to be replaced or a possible second type ?
1 x New Fleet Oiler (SPS Cantabria is currently en-route to Australia for a 12 month assessment) possibly 2
3 x Hobart Class (Talk in media and Defence of a possible 4th)
    8 x Anzac II’s (Type 26 ?)
12 x Collins SSK mkII (Not far from decision)
    20 x OCV’s

The RAN also has 6 x MRH-90’s and has recently selected 24 x MH-60R to replace the current Seahawk’s

    Among other bit’s and piece’s

    Cheers

it should be considered that the Westland Lynx holds the official world speed record for helicopters.

A Westland Lynx, one with different engines, rotors, stripped of weight etc

A standard production Lynx is comparible to many other helicopters available, but they certainly are a very nice piece of kit indeed, a quick Youtube search brings up some nice clips 🙂

The Spaniards have done the same with their Juan Carlos LHD too. Hence the Australian Canberra class still have a ski deck despite there being no plan to operate F-35s. Removing the ski jump would’ve involved an expensive redesign so they simply brought them with the ski jump.

Navantia does actually have a version of the LHD without the ski jump, so we could have had it made without 🙂 The general belief is that it was kept for UAV’s, but also handy for the occasional cross decking UK or USMC B

So what you’re saying is you have as much insight into classified detection ranges of aircraft IR detection systems as a …. computer operator (computers are on aircraft too you know?)

Noticed your input is at a very high level, not a lot of detail goin on there 🙂

    *sigh* next wannabe please….

No but what he is saying is he has relevant background to be able to make comment, but at least he has relevant knowledge on the issue being discussed and Defence background, it goes a bit further in my book than Wiki Google Fu ?

Anyone else want to put up their creds ?

Yes, my background can be applied to this topic. I have worked for a well known European defense giant on ground sensors. My job was not related to R&D rather than to benchmark testing for various applications.. Most notably on future soldier programmes.

The questions you should be asking here:
Does this guy know exact specifics of various aircraft paint coatings and their characteritics related to reduction of infrared emissions? No, I do not.
Does this guy have more than just a vague idea about what level of IR-stealth is technologically possible to be achieved vis-a-vis modern infrared sensors like HgCdTe or VOx? Yes, I have.
Does the guy think that paint coatings can reduce thermal signature of a conventional jet aircraft to the level of achieving infrared stealth or at least considerable reduction of detection and lock-on range? No I don’t. Simply because the exhaust is a much larger source of infrared emissions than leading edges or fuselage parts.

Now, if you are so concerned about my credibility, why don”t you reveal your own background so that I have at least an idea who am I talking to?

No was not concerned about your credability, was just curious about what you do/had done, now you have clarified that for us, appreciated. You do not need to have specific knowledge of the JSF or any other programe to comment, just relevant background that can be applied to make reasoned claims, you have done that, I probably come across in the wrong way, and for that i appoligise. I was not questioning your cred, just curious on background.

As for my background, I have offered on this site numerous times, but as I mentioned in my previous post, most people run away when asked, or shoot down when you offer because “there is no way to verify such claims” which is a load of rubbish, because you can, fairly easily actually 🙂

My background is based in Australia, 8 years in the RAN specialising in Communications, but also worked for the Director of Security/Provost Marshall of the RAN, I then entered the Civvy world and worked as the Assistant Departmental Security Officer for the Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet, after which I then moved back to the Department of Defence working in communications again in a couple of roles and agencies (IE: can’t go into too much detail) within.

Yes, I work in the IR sector. In application testing, to be more precise. My job is in no way connected with the JSF, though..

That was a question, nothing else. How many F-35 airframes are on fixed order as we speak?

Wasn’t insinuating you were involved with the JSF, just curious how your background can be applied to what you were talking aobut ? Still does not tell me much, not saying that you don’t have relevant information, but a bit more of an expansion would help ?

But I do know how it works on here too though, whenever your questioned about proffesional claims people who could loose face go on the attack and pull out every excuse on how you can’t prove it on the internet, but I am happy to listen ?

How about to look into the posters there before doing a general claim. 😎

You may have learned in the meanwhile that the dated powerpoint claims from LM are no longer true. They are working on Blk3 right now, but the planned final capability of that will be delayed for several years.

I am not sure what you were trying to say now..
    1. What relevant background?
    2. A statement like what? I have asked a question, not made any statement.

    1. You claim to work in the IR field and then apply your knowledge on the JSF, that in your claim implies relevant background to make comment

    2. “Ain’t the reason they are not making the F-35 at 100+ rate because they got no orders ?”

Oh that was a question, no underlaying statement there ? sorry 🙂

Ain’t the reason they are not making the F-35 at 100+ rate because they got no orders ?

So you claim to have some relevant background ? And then you make a statement like that ! I don’t think so
