It’s only made two flights since the re-finish Albert.
The first was from Hurn to Yeovilton on Wednesday 21st, and the second Yeovilton back to Hurn via Portsmouth Harbour on the 22nd.
Lee’s photo sorties were flown at the same time.
It just has to be an authentic (ie: correct) reproduction of the scheme.
The RNHF Swordfish Mk.I W5856 wears a scheme representing another aeroplane from 1939, but carries it own serial.
The Blue Diamonds-liveried Hunter T.7 G-BXKF, owned by Delta Jets also carries a similiar scheme; painted to represent XL571/XL605 but wears its former serial XL577.
IMO what makes the scheme will be the 899 NAS insignia on the tail, which is still under wraps! The front half does look smart though 🙂
That paint scheme on VX281 has been used for the past 15 years at least, but I imagine it’s been re-applied at some stage since then.
If the paint finish is in good nick, then it should be left until it needs replacing, or when finances allow it to be re-finished in a more authentic colour scheme.
The last Sea Fury duo display that I can think of occurred at Staverton in June 1989, when TF956 and WG655 flew together…
Long time ago 😮
I’ve always wanted to do Culdrose, trouble is it would take hours to get there by road, even from Somerset!
Unless of course, you call an (aerial) cab 🙂
VX281
Dragon of Cymru Ione April 2003
Could be Yeovilton, May 2007 too 😀
Currently standing in front of a mirror with both arms stretched upwards.
So that’s four hands for a start 😉
736 NAS colours please Lee 😉
I have this one, sourced from the WWW, which I think was taken a few years ago…
If anyone has Warbirds Worldwide issue 6, she’s on the front cover being flown by the late ‘Bob’ Guilford.
She’s christened the ‘Dragon of Cymru.”
A possible pairs display at Yeovilton Air Day 2007….
mouth-watering!
😮 GORGEOUS! 😀
VX281 and VR930 will look like twins now 🙂
Apparently she’s due out of the paint-shop today…
XV865 would have made a good acquisition for the Fleet Air Arm Museum collectio if they didn’t already have a Bucc Mk.2.
You do make a good point though, There were a few former FG.1 Phantoms at Leuchars at one stage, all of which have FAA pedigree unlike the prototype in the FAAM.
Before that, the RAFM flogging off the P.1B XA847 because they got a Lightning F.6 from Binbrook. I’m sure they have another ‘unremarkable’ Lightning (a pre-production aircraft?) in the collection that surely could have been sold instead?
She looks even better with the tanks on Mark 🙂
Sounds like he needs a trip to Specsavers then! No Firefly around!
Funny you should say that, later on he unwittingly stood on a freshly laid cow pat, which promptly exploded all up his wellingtons and trousers 😀
Friendly chap though, and good company during my time in the field.
