This T.8C is in a very nice colour scheme 🙂
I believe the original plan (or from what I was told) was the T.8C would be sunk and the F6A displayed.
Cosmetically, the T8C looks better then the 6A so would make sense to sink the latter (No re-finishing needed = no money spent etc.).
As compared to other surviving two-seaters this one was blessed with still having its instructor’s periscope and pylon fitted – presumably that perished in the UK prang or does it survive somewhere and could it be refitted at some time?
The tripod looked a bit bent, but intact when WG655 crashed in 1990, although its fuselage split around the rear cockpit area.
WoGB did have a two seater that was exported to the USA.
It was registered G-BCOW from memory?
Here some more pics in the finishing stages. this Aircraft is Fantastic.
She looks lovely and brings back countless memories 😀
Would be great to see her back in the UK 🙂
Thanks for posting.
She’s parked up at Hurn in open store, with her feet sunk into the grass having been sat idle for a long time.
The potential is definitely there for a rebuild to fly!
I may take a trip down to Solent Sky over the weekend and get a shot of her.
Apparently she’s there and not in the SS storage area?
I would presume something will have to move out to allow her to move in?
If you post a fot, I’ll pass it on to a couple of ex-FRADU Canberra drivers I know.
Success.
Recovered, scanned, and patched together…
A 1200 pixels wide image can be downloaded here – 288Kb!
I’ll see if we got them in the bin. Initial thoughts are ‘no’ but I’ll have a rummage anyway just in case.
Won’t there be a pile of Bristol Centaurus engines in the States that have been removed from Sea Fury racers, I assume that these are compatible with a Tempest.
Incidentally, does between Stansted and Debden put Tempestnut somewhere near Quendon, by coincidence I was just talking to one of my clients who lives there while I was scanning this thread.
Unfortunately the Tempest II engine is completely different to the Centaurus 18. The only part that could be used is the engine bulkhead.
I’m pretty sure that the original rear fuselage section of WG655 was in store elsewhere in the USA.
Have to agree, a superb restoration 😀
CVIX is apparently due to appear at Yeovilton Air Day – static only.
Glad you enjoyed looking at the photos chaps.
It was a pleasure sharing them with you all.
Cheers,
Mark
Thanks for all the comments guys!
Glad to be there on the day!
There’s two JP’s based there in addition to the Strikey; a Mk.4 G-BXLO and a Mk.5 G-JPTV. The Mk.4 was supposed to attend Yeovilton Air Day last year, but went u/s.
In store in Ecuador I believe.
