dont be fooled by these warbird operators.
from my experience they are for the most part arrogent, stuck up, rich @$$holes.
they drive the prices up on anything and everything warbird related to make it unreachable for you and me.
most have big company sponsors and are tottaly loaded with money anyway then have the hide to beg for your donations so THEY can enjoy THIER TOY!
dont be fooled, they arnt preserving these planes for you, they are one of the most selfish kind of human being alive.
not all, but most.
this is why im building a replica, take the fighter factory for example:
http://www.tidetech.com/fighterfactory/forsale.html
they want $450,000 for rusting junk, barely anything in those junkpiles could be made airworthy again, any engineer will tell you that.
but because they beat you too the spots where these planes crashed and filled up thier hangers before you did and basicly raped the whole earth of warbirds so nobody else could get them they demand $450,000.
😮
they would never sell. thats thier national musem, even the russian space shuttle sits rotting in the open :p
last one

.
only in russia do you park your priceless ww2 planes outside in the snow for your national museum.:D
im building a P40E(replica) now and have spoken with a few doing the same, it seems that 90% of aircraft are composites or new planes.
take fighter factorys junk for example http://www.tidetech.com/fighterfactory/forsale.html they want $450,000 USD for some junk they “picked up” off the ground. now any engineer will tell you that NOTHING except maybe a few small pieces are useable there.
steel thats been outside for 50 years will never be airworthy, engine blocks would have hairline cracks, the skin is ofcourse not useable.
the only thing original you would use from that is maybe the flight stick, pilots seat and data plate, thats what you get for your $450,000!:p
yes ive tried contacting them…for about 2 weeks now.
