SyAAF Su-24M2 dropping 6 x OFAB-250-270 over AlQabun, around 6th May

The Russian A-50 was already reported in Syrian social on 30th April 2017

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C-qi_PGXgAAtpkO.jpg:large

Another snap came out on 5th May
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C_F3IseXsAAufPX.jpg

A single A-50 is highly inadequate for the Syrian theatre considering the multi-dimensional military assets at the disposal of the Jhadis. There need to be atleast 2-3 x A-50 to monitor Syrian airspace 24/7.

Approx number of radically moderate jihadis inside Syria

14.500 – Idlib, Hama, Aleppo, Latakia

^ North de-escalation zone

3000 – Rastan

^ 3rd de-escalation zone: al-Rastan pocket in North Homs countryside

9000 – Ghouta
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C_FWmRBXYAEj6PT.jpg:large
^ 4th de-escalation zone: East Ghouta (Damascus CS)

15,000 South Front

^ South de-escalation zone: in Daraa+Quneytra governorates. (Borders with Israel and Jordan)

https://twitter.com/miladvisor

It is going to be a herculean task to wipe out these Jihadis coz they are entrenched inside the civilian zones. So its almost impossible to carpet bomb these areas, else a dozen or so FOAB would have done a great job.

Austin,
What you are saying is true and so does the point that the 9M317 and variants were limited in its range most liklely due to the illuminator guiding it. What I suspected earlier was probably the 11356 was using a new and much more powerful illuminator for guiding the 9M317. I was basing it on the range creep that we saw happening with the naval missile. If I’m not wrong, it started off from 32 Km to 50Km and now to 70Km. But its secondary anti-ship range remained almost constant at 25Km due to the horizon limits.

The new Buk-M3 missile has got a higher spec in terms of performance and what they can engage compared to the earlier missile. But it would probably be limited to the 50Km as the current 9M317 if not for the active seeker and/or a new longer range illuminator/guidance unit on the ship.

TR1,
True that Zaliv have not built any naval ships in recent years, but I want to be optimistic about them delivering the new corvettes on time and inside budget. These are likely the initial orders to put Zaliv back on track and more orders are likely to come if the leaches in the industry doesn’t grab it through their contacts.

^ Ausitn, good article.

Few details and summary regarding the new production and testing facility @ NPO Saturn. Corrections and additions are always welcome.

NPO Saturn had already done much work earlier (also depends on how much funding was provided) and was continuing the work on M90FRU in collaboration with the Ukranians.

http://www.npo-saturn.ru/?rssid=1224074863&sat=6&slang=1

August 21, 2008, Rybinsk. NPO Saturn has completed development work of the second marine gas-turbine engine – M70FRU – and is planning to subject it to the official tests in September this year in Rybinsk.

NPO Saturn is the sole Russian company that develops and manufactures gas-turbine engines for the main propulsion systems of the surface ships.

The first Russian marine gas-turbine engine M75RU developed and manufactured by NPO Saturn successfully passed official tests in November 2006.

Gas turbines, the specs in the UEC link need not have to be the latest.
M75RU – 6,000hp – 7,000hp
M70FRU – 12,000hp – 14,000hp
M90FRU – 27,500hp

So thats how the designation looked prior to the much needed enlightenment.
With the dawn of wisdom back in 2014, the target was set for Dec 2017 for a complete Made-in-Russia production and testing facility and its now almost complete.

Gas turbines (GTE)

M70FRU – 12,000hp – 14000hp
M70FRU-2 – 6,000hp – 7,000hp (most likely the M75RU had a designation change)
M70FRU-R – hp? (Its probably to replace the existing Ukrainain GTEs)
M90FR – 27,500hp

^ Russians, afaik, doesn’t quote two power rating as per convenience like their western counterparts, they mostly specify the power@shaft. So the hp rating you mostly see in a Russian specsheet/brochure are the shp.

Gas turbine plant/unit (GTA)

M35-R1 – (probably M70FRU-2?)
M35-R2 – (probably M70FRU?… probably replaces the earlier M27)
M55R – (M90FR)
M70R – (M70FRU-R, likely for replacing the existing Ukrainian GTAs when needed)

NPO Saturn now consists of two new full fledged test facilities.
No.1 – upto 15WM (for M70FRU/2/R)
No.2 – upto 40MW (for M90FR and likely future variants)

Now, lets hope that the guys will start ordering the 11356 and 22350 with M55R units. Even if they cut the first steel now, it will take around 2-3 years for the hull to be ready for installation of these units. So no need to waste anymore time.

So finally we get to see the new Shtil-I VLS with 9M317MA in action and its the active seeker which have given this missile its 70Km range.

The ripple fire was simply too good that I couldn’t resist creating a gif from the video.

Regarding the start of production of gas turbinbes in Russia without Ukranian components.

What happened to the Quote function in reply??

So what Saturn seems to have done is reverse engineered the Ukranian Engine of GTE M70FRU, M70FRU-2, M70FRU-P M90FR, GTA M35R and M70 type ?

Seems this was the quickest way to over come the current embargo where practically most rusian ships depend on Ukraine engine

Btw, I dont inderstand why they still keep the “U” in the product designation. They took away the “U” from the Russian-Ukranian M90FRU to make it M90FR for a completely Russian manufactured M90 gad turbine.

Pella is probably among the yards with a clean layout due to it being completely rebuilt and new. The only thing I dont like about this private yard is that like the other greedy leaches (Severnya) in the Russian ship building industry, they too have started to bite more than what they can chew (inside Russia). What they need to do is churn out the corvettes and other ships in specified time and cost and not become another greedy entity to grab all the contracts of the MoD even when their facility doesnt support builfing larger ships.

Couple of snaps of what Pella looked at when creating their new facility.

The work progress at Zevzda looks very slow.
One of my favorite yard is Zaliv and if I had my way this is the yard I would have given priorioty. Its a yard with beautiful layout and it would do good to have 2-4 more gantry cranes for its current twin 400m slipways. Upto four 11356/22350 can be integrated simultaneously on those slipways, without using the main 360m drydock.

If they want to built a carrier, they have got Zaliv as an option. But I would prefer the yard to churn out 11356/22350 (& 23560) once the colossal mess that was/is the gas turbines is sorted out.

For the last time.. US anounced over the deconflict channel 30min before strie. US wanted to give ample time for Russian personel to get to safety. Had any Russian personel died in that strike, then it would have ben a huge ****-up for Trump.

You heard those exact words/phrases that muricans used to anounce over the deconflict channel 30 min before the strike?

Btw, unlike your first hand info, the murican announcements was not audible to the poor guys at Janes who is parroting the “normal” fanboy stuffs calling into question the very effectiveness of the Russian assets in Syria.

The US Navy’s ability to hit Syria’s Al-Shayrat Air Base with a large number of Raytheon RGM-109 Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles (TLAMs) on 7 April raised questions about the capabilities of Russia’s air defence systems, specifically its current frontline long-range system: the Almaz-Antey S-400 Triumf.

This image reveals the actual flight path of the Tomahawks. The circles represent the maximum engagement range of the installed air defense systems against cruise missiles..

If this is the actual flight path, it explains almost everything.
Can you please translate what that two red path represents? Preplanned and factual routes?
Do they mean, either of these two path or does it mean both routes were taken?

I think the longer path is the most likely and the only route taken, and if that was indeed the case we can derive few things from it.

– It flys over Jihadi allies territories almost to the last minutes
– Route can effectively fool anyone initially to erroneously believe that the missiles are going to strike the Southern Syrian borders to support the new Syrian army along the Jordanian border or their combat mission in Raqqa province.
– I think, muricans gave prior information to the Russians on the strike in a carefully manipulated wordings hiding the real intend/target thus fooling the Russians. Somewhat like — “we are going to carry out missile strike on terrorists…”
– Based on getting to know about the launch from their own assets, the Russians started tracking the missiles (no A-50 in Syrian skies AFAIK) and it stayed clear of their area.
– This could be the most probable reason why Russian S-300/400/Pantsir-S1 or the Syrian Pantsir systems based off the Syrian coast never engaged the cruise missiles.
– Russians/Syrians probably realized later that muricans fooled them and the target could be the Shyrat airbase from the later phase of the flight path.
– This could most probably be the time the Russians (helos) and Syrians scrambled out their available assets out of the airbase.
– The time available for such an emergency evacuation would probably be around half an hour or less from the moment of impact, considering a flight time of 1 hours and the Russians/Syrians came to now about the intended target in the mid-way.

But info like these should have been released by the Russian MoD on the day of strike itself.
The scorecard pattern of the Jihadi alliance on the strike has been like this…
70+
59
59/60
58/59
completely destroyed airbase
20 aircraft’s destroyed
20% SyAAF destroyed

Regarding the missiles itself, if 58 missiles actually struck the airbase, the result has been poor and contrary to what the Jihadi coalition believed to be a “completely destroyed airbase”. It could be the reason why Russian spokesperson said, the strike had poor efficiency.

Instead, if its only 23 missiles that actually struck the targets, the damage done is significant and the reason why Russia is angry.

Seems China abstained from voting in UN , WH seems to be happy about it though.

IIRC this is the 2nd time china abstained from voting at UNSC in Syrian conflict

One veto or two veto, the effect remains the same – the resolution gets vetoed. The act of putting 3 permanent veots at the same time is the habbit of the Jihadi’s to reassure each other, massage each others ego and to show that they are very faithful poodles.

pick one battle at a time and do it effectively and efficiently with all instrument of power.

Trump is doing all battles at same North korea, Yemen, Irak, Afghanistan, North and South Syria. although Russia can help NK as they are reliable and cheaper supply of labor.

To be frank, this approach of the Russians has been very stupid and a failure and the core reason of what we see today. How mnay stupid ceasefires were observed for no reason, all that wasted time including grounds. Add to that the half arsed supports for the allies fighting on the ground.

Giving support for the allies is where muricans earn respect, no matter who their allies they give the best support to fight their enemies. Its the reason why Al-Qaeda, IS etc are all betting on murican support to fight the Syrian and Russian forces!

Trump or any other puppet can choose how many battles they want to fight as its outside of his decision making capability, his only job is to approve the decisions/plans already made. But Russia’s job is to make its opponents bleed where ever they fight and thats is exactly where Russia has failed miserably and continue to remain so even after the Jihadi’s continue to create hot zones around Russian borders.

I believe, the recent visit of Tillerson to Moscow was not about Syria, but to get the feelings on North Korea! The Jihadi’s coalition wanted to know what Moscow’s reaction would be, if ever, they launch an attack on North Korea (considering the recent events) and whether Russia will try to make it yet another Vietnam for the muricans or not.

If Russia is not stupid, Russia will support the North Koreans military and diplomatically and bog down the Jihadi alliance in Korean peninsula and make sure its the last war that coalition is able to wage on any other nation with impunity.

Of course the good Maj Gen meant that! Just a simple coincidence that he said it as UAV footage for the second time passed over the junk airfield decoys. 🙂 It is just laughable as is his claim of 23 and your claim that the Russians were not informed. Yes the Russians were informed. The US knew that Russian forces were operating from the base hence the warning. It is just ludicrous that you would even question that. I get that it a mindset but seriously?

Actually I’m surprised about your strong believe which doesn’t even have an ounce of doubt to what the Jihadi coalition has to say….

The Jihadi coalition avoiding Russian areas to prevent causalities is out of their concern for an escalation, nothing more.
