So way out from the side of the road is a good place for cyclists to be? It’s exactly that kind of attitude that causes these problems in the first place! If the cyclist had been further over to the side then the incident wouldn’t have happened, and it’s almost like he actually wanted something like that to happen and having the camera put him on some kind of point-proving power trip. I’m sorry, but whether the courts agree or not the cyclist is an idiot.
you are of course totaly correct he could have got closer !!
thus allowing the van to tuck in risking a possible crush scenario with railings and van ( had it happen myself because of impatient van drivers )
the cyclist was riding both correctly and defensively reading other road users and the road
maybe after the fines the van driver may follow the same example !!
Tornado, are you really completely blind to the clear fact the cyclist was in a really stupid place in the road? Why was he so far out? Please explain!
that is just the point he was not !!
i presume there was a team of lawyers that worked on it
that came to the same conclusion
you may think you are right but you would obviously loose in court !!

How on Earth do you work that out?!
because the van driver overtook aproaching a cyclist when turning left at a junction
if you don’t ride a cycle daily you don’t realise how many times cars and vans cut up cyclists whilst turning left
he then gave little room for error through the corner
and then because the cyclist banged on the van to let him know his presence
the gob****e started a tirade of road rage
i’d say that more than qualifies as harrasment
i’d have banned him from driving for six months !!

Does the law say you have to use the track?
unsure i feel it would be optional , but bloody stupid to be on the road when a track is provided

like it or not the van driver was clearly in the wrong . he was stung for it and rightly so
i wouldn’t have drove a van or truck like that in that situation given the cyclists road positionings
the van driver was breaking the law and got everything that was comming to him and justly too
the fact the cyclist stood his ground is an irrelavent factor as he was doing nothing wrong in doing so as his positioning in the road after the corner was correct for the aproaching stopped vehicle on the left
i agree there are the bad element of cyclists too but the one in the video was riding correctly
and was being harrased by the van driver every court in the country would have booked him !!

Tornado, if I’m turning left and a bike comes up on the inside, having seen my timely indication of intent, he’s overtaking on the inside and doesn’t have the right of way. I’m always wary of cyclists doing this because I’ve seen so many of them endanger their lives this way.
You assume that the van driver has to drive at the speed of the cyclist and allow him to pull out. Perhaps that would be courteous but he’s within his right to continue in his chosen lane without extending that courtesy. If the cyclist assumes he can barge in, his judgment’s seriously impaired.
here’s the highway code ruling !!

The problem with a lot of cyclists I think is they expect to be able to use the roads like a car which just doesn’t make sense to me. When the white van “cut him up” he looked like he as way out in the road where he just shouldn’t have been, so really it’s his own fault. It isn’t even a case of whether or not as a cyclist I have the right to be somewhere on a road or not, it’s the fact that I’m a guy on a bike weighing next to nothing and road vehicles generally weigh between 1 and 40 tons, it’s basic logic not to get too cocky about it!
PeeDee, sure there are some idiot cyclists out there but don’t let that get in the way of the fact there are plenty of idiot drivers as well.
he was probably further out as the road surfaces at the sides of uk roads are atrocious and littered with potholes it is more dangerous to ride there than a little further out
a pothole on a cycle can throw you of it ( possibly infront of a vehicle )
if as a car driver you have not accounted for it happening and there is an accident through you giving insufficent room ( you are responsible )…
