Thousands of years of existence in cultures far older than Germany….

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4183467.stm

Note the term Swastika is a *******isation of the Sanskrit word Svastica. It’s not the symbol that I find offensive, just the use of said symbol by the Nazi regime. The Finns have used the Swastika as have numerous other Nations. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find the Swastika used somewhere in the heraldic traditions of this Country.

    Regards,

    kev35

i know that kev !! i mean its assosciation with evil and racism that it has in modern culture !!

[QUOTE=Lincoln 7;1871818And I stand by what I stated, and I would bet there are a lot more members who would agree, it IS an insult to all the soldiers who died in WW1 and WWII.
    Jim.

    Lincoln .7[/QUOTE]

think it would be ww2 only jim AFAIK the swastika was a nazi party symbol so only came into being during or just before ww2

however i know exactly where you are comming from

i disagree with the swastika being erased from history in the correct historical sense such as on models , art work , historical aircraft , re enactments etc etc all those uses are educational

however what has been done to the union flag in this thread is dangerously far right and understandably offensive as we have a lot of the older generation on here

i don’t always agree with all of them and may have ding dong rows with some but this is deeply offensive to most of that generation !!

    Seemingly it does because –

realy ?? i notice some simmilarities in costume here !! she didn’t seem to do too bad !!

russias flag at that time was red with a little yellow so based on the colour argument the costume should be red with a yellow collar !!

Aye, bit of a different design as you say Tornado64.I think its quite fetching. Bit of a cheap shot about alcoholism though. Arent they about to start minimum pricing for alcohol south of the border as well? Pot, kettle comes to mind!

not that cheap a shot my family is from prestonpans , and 50% of them are half cut most of the time !!;)

to be honnest it is quite a nice design !! why does it need red ?? the flag would be instantly recognisable in monotone !!

It’s only for one year though – Scotland will have it’s own Olympic team by 2016…

doubt alcholism will ever be an olympic event !!

Are you ex-forces?, there is the Union Jack Club at which I have stayed in the distant past. Quite cheap if I remember.

    Baz

beat me to it !! it can be an interesting stay too as there are plenty of charachters there and not only british forces ( the american navy seemed to be in town when i was last there !! ) always good to wind up especialy for my old man remeniscing about fighting with them in durban during ww2 and laughing when the shore patrol dragged them off ,,,,,

also worth a think about is joining ” the youth hostel assosciation !” many good hotels with more than reasonable prices but you need to be a member !!
