I don’t see why females should pay the same as young males. Young males have twice the accidents that anyone else has. Often in single car crashes.

    .

you’d be the first on the protest line if you wasn’t being paid the same as a male doing the same job as you though !!!

funny how you don’t want equality if it comes from your pocket !!

maybe they have twice the amount of accidents because there are twice as many out on the road 3 times longer !!

The limit is 47BHP IIRC, rather than 600cc.

unsure about that i guess the information i got last week from a qualified instructor should be pretty near the mark as he did comment it was ludicrous as a harley 1200 is well under performing compared to most 600cc sport bikes !!

Most 600cc motorbikes put out 90BHP+. I did my A2 just before the current two part practical came into force, so I avoided the ridiculous off-road section. It’s just being forced upon us by the EU, nobody here actually wants the new motorcycle licencing laws. On the 33BHP 2 year restriction many people didn’t bother restricting them since it’s so much of a PITA for the police to check it, and the difference would only be obvious if the bike is doing over 110mph, at which point they would be in trouble anyway. There are 125cc bikes that put out around 30BHP (Aprilia RS, Cagiva Mito etc).

personaly i think it is a good thing but it should be fair and braught in across the board i think the car test is way too easy and should be toughened up the same as for bikes

i also think all drivers should have to do 12 months on a motorcycle there is no finer way to make people think about their behaviour in traffic than when the car is taken away and your body is the crumple zone !!

However as a young male i’d like to point out that perhaps better driver training would be better then simply banning all young drivers from anything over 1000cc. That kind of penalises people such as myself who aren’t a ‘nuisance’ in my cars, i just have a passion for them.

You can kill yourself and others in any car, but with better training, better testing and dare i say it better road policing numbers may start to drop.

    Simon

good sound sense i personaly don’t understand why cars are so easy to go through to pass a test then hop in anything you want afterwards ( i don’t think there is a ban on over a 1000cc ) legaly you are allowed to drive any car ( finding insurance is the problem )

whereas presently i’m going through the motorcycle phase again ( before you even think of going near the road ) you have to pass a basic competence CBT test passed mine last week then you are allowed to ride a 125cc for 2 yrs in wich time you either have to pass the first part of the motorcycle test wich only alows you to ride upto a 33 BHP motorcycle for 2 yrs before moving onto larger machines

but this is changing this year and you will only be allowed the next step up to a 600cc machine if then you wish to have a bike larger than 600 cc you have to take another test that takes you up to unlimmited

if this is the case for motorcycles why shouldn’t there be different tests for different cars as there are wild and varying difrences between most cars of difrent performance values

Insurance companies use statistics to back up their premium prices whereas this forum uses sweeping generalizations.

Women, Asians, Mercedes, school run etc..

    .

these are factual observations formed from what must be aproaching 100’000 + driving miles if not far in excess i’d done 24’000 in my first 2 yrs on motorcycles

in that time i have driven most 4×4’s , most saloons , high performance inc porsches , ferraris and bentleys i also drove most types of van and trucks up to 38 ton tractor units

in those miles travelling every area in the uk from the loveley twisting scottish roads to the nightmare of londons double red lines when all you want to do is stop for a pie and chips

believe me those observations are spot on , if you had observed the woman with the 1 mile tailback behind her because her telephone call was more important than turning onto the lane her little darlings school was on you may comprehend !!

this is the way i think of course women drivers are worse than men !! i witness it all too often

but here’s the thing … in general males are on the road longer and cover greater distances

there are far fewer women drivers on the road ( especialy any type of distance driving ) i know i used to look for them when i was bored in my truck in jams

most women drivers are going to the shops , work , or school ( very few are proffesional drivers )

whilst on the school run they avoid accidents because blokes know they are going to do something ****witted a school run favourite seems to be to take little johny into the middle of the road open the door , spend time belting him in whilst holding up traffic , whilst the empty seat and kerb would have obviously been the dangerous option

worst drivers ??? asian women !! get behind one , you’ll know

what i’d like to know is just how much massaging of figures there is ??

because i was in a car lateley with a young female driver , that admitted to writing off 4 cars in the 4 months since passing her test and je*us i’ve been in a car with some fast driving lunatics but this girl was a liability as actualy driving seemed to be the last activity on her mind !!!!

the whole insurance game is a lucrative scam !! when i look for insurance i look for the lowest legal requirements cover ( nothing more ) if anything else is required i cover it out of my own pocket should that eventuality occur

    why ??

because in the past i have paid to be covered and the scumbag weasels have welched not only on me but numerous other friends

one even welched on paying out on 7000 quids worth of caravan !!
