It was equally cringeworthy watching Jasper Carrot the other night too. Pathetic.

the very reason i didn’t tune into any of them as they were superb in thier day

a lot of commedy for blokes is the cheeky chappie or down on luck types

none of wich works when older you just start to feel sorry for the old guy rather than laugh at a young guys missfortune etc

i feel they tried a kind of johnny english for tv with jason , where it probably would have translated better with a younger guy like atkinson

but also to be remembered is that jason has done little if any commedy for years so we’re used to seeing him in straight roles

and the fact that in commedy only fools is never going to be improved upon it had the crem de la crem in all aspects anything jason was going to do after commedy wise was never going to be the same legend !!

my nikon d40 slr is a fantastic piece of kit ( made in thailand but still good )

    i recentltly baught a nikon compact ( chinese and a bag of sh*te !! )

but we are doing the typical british thing ( i remember early british datsuns being called ” jap cr*p !!” )

first they’ll get the market then the quality will follow !!

the aerospace company i worked for happily had a chinese student learning how to do it correctly !!

sadly i think we are at the dawn of changing world ecconomies ( we are selling more bentleys and luxury goods to china than ever before ( probably some very bad communists )

    .

the youth of today can be increadibly cultural , i saw one the other day with a 33 rpm album ( aparently new songs are being released as the young uns are taking to vinyl again ) strange but true…

in seem to remember a recent b+w war film fared fairly well at the cinema schindlers list aparently made a few bob !!

Yes, although it wasn’t really the filmmakers fault, I cringe every time I see the Upkeep bombs in the original film. 😮

One thing that does interest me in the original is the scene when testing the bombs; a bomb breaks up after being dropped by a Mosquito (I think?). The bomb is dropped from a very high altitude (with the aircraft climbing) and the bomb shatters on impact with the sea; the thing is it looks like a real bomb-test (as do the other bomb failures). So what was going on there, as I’m sure it wasn’t shot specially for the film?

i should imagine no one minds releasing film of the failures , it’s the sucessful ones you keep secret !!

That’s a valid point I think, and not just to do with the acting; the screenwriters, editors, SPX departments and directors of the immediate post-war era must have contained many who had recent combat experience.

Interestingly, Richard Todd, who plays Guy Gibson in the original, had some very relevant military experience but, rather ironically, given the comments about not wanting ‘extra’ American actors in any remake, while looking this up I discovered that…

…Todd is Irish (by birthplace and family). :diablo:

but there is also the flip side that it was so close to the real event many things were still kept secret
