That’s a valid point I think, and not just to do with the acting; the screenwriters, editors, SPX departments and directors of the immediate post-war era must have contained many who had recent combat experience.
Interestingly, Richard Todd, who plays Guy Gibson in the original, had some very relevant military experience but, rather ironically, given the comments about not wanting ‘extra’ American actors in any remake, while looking this up I discovered that…
…Todd is Irish (by birthplace and family). :diablo:
but there is also the flip side that it was so close to the real event many things were still kept secret

Even his close friend and mentor the late great Ronnie barker had a stinker who remembers The Magnificent Evans.ronnie barker probably bucks the trend because he was also a terrific actor and had a terrific grasp of language
strangely the research showed that men became less funny as they became older usualy about 40-50

bet you can’t gues wich 2 shots i like the best ???
after them the frecce shots are my faves …
what’s there to be gentle about ??,, they are superb !!
a more fitting question would be why don’t we see movies like the dambusters and the battle of britain more often on tv
when i was a kid ” the battle of britain ” seemed to be on every weekend in winter
the weekends it wasn’t on it was probably due to showing dambusters or another equaly good war film
nowadays we seem to be bombarded by shoplifting chefs or alcholic singers !!
i find it a strange twisted world where you can’t use the “n” word whilst talking about heroes that stopped an ethnic cleansing regime !!!
but rap groups can merrily sing aloud on stage about shooting niggers !!
it may have a difrent meaning to them but i don’t think they do thier cause any good whatsoever
getting rid of racism sureley means being equal if one section of society is suppressed from using a certain word while another can shout it freely in public surely amounts to inequality and racism

The original is old, very old; it looks dated, the SFX are crap and it is full of historical inaccuracies. It is also in B&W and so nobody under forty will watch it! (If you’ve seen the original more than twice or got it on DVD (or VHS!) then the remake isn’t for you anyway!)
:
but it did have real lancasters and todd actualy taxied one !!

there was a programme once on tv that did factual research into commedy it found that after a certain age comedians do become un funny
i believe the lenny henry one was dire too although to be fair he hasn’t been that funny since the late 70’s
i think jason has now hit the mark where serious acting is expected
with the odd exception how many commedians can you name still working in thier 60’s wich jason must be now !!
fair enough there was grandad and uncle albert but they were there to set a jokes plot around !!
