I think the age of the pilot is irrelevant he was either fit to fly or not and I am sure at his age he must have passed a very stringent medical.

sad accident but age is an extreemely relevant factor , i’m nearly 50 and if asked to be doing the things i was at 30 even nature will not allow it

nature sees that even if passed fit on monday you can be dead the day after through many conditions old age raises the possibillity considerably especialy doing things with extreeme exertion

there cannot possibly be speculation to causes at this time as it could be endless possibillities and possibly combinations of those

but it isn’t a factor you can rule out just because you pass a medical

i had a 47 yr old friend who was apparently very fit and walked regularly with his dog two weeks ago he was the picture of health when he asked me to paint a portrait , died suddenly in his sleep this week !!

a friend had a 67 goat !! it wasn’t so much the brakes that scared you so much as it being a big wallowing dog of a thing no denying it was fast with the original tri power and hurst shifter

Would scientists be able to create human eggs and sperm from stem cells? If they haven’t already done so? They have managed it with other animals.

i know i have seen the jerremy kyle show !!

[I]You were right about the Trumf Spit/Herald/etc gear swinging inwards when ‘raised’ by the suspension system – damn near had a nasty in mine!
Awful car – haven’t had a drive in an E-Type or a Lightning, although I fancy the ‘E’ handled a tad better than a Herald 😮

i had the 948 , 1200 and 12/50 if pressed to hard cornering they whipped you into the verge or gutter ( straight towards ) a idiosyncracy caused by the single leaf spring mounted transverseley

the herald had bottom edge inwards rear wheels

the spitfire retained the same suspension but the problem was greatly reduced by having the rear wheel bottoms edge outwards

so when trying to corner fast the inner rear wheel still tried to tuck under but stayed verticle instead leaving the tread on the road instead of the sidewall

but strangely the e type and herald share more design ideas than most realise

an ex boss would have probably tried to send me up there in my reccovery truck to collect it !!

Not sure Jim, it seems that if a car is in the concours league the owner can almost ask what they want for it.

Gotta concur with Rich, I think the E-Type point is being missed slightly, no where else could you buy such a beautiful (in a league of its own there), fast, and well engineered car for that price.

the biggest problem with an etype is that yes sorted ones can go for a fortune

but here’s the snag pay 14’000 for a seemingly good project then double that figure on parts knit one pearl one for the hours in restoration

take an excrutiating labour charge for the restorer then double it !!

a guy that lives near me has a conquors xk 140 if i remember correctly he baught it for £65,000 . the guy he baught it off had spent £ 85,000 the year before to restore it !!

and there’s the catch you can restore one yourself and yes it can be fun

but save money you won’t more often than not it is a money looser on e types !!
