the argument of home defence is an exceptionaly strange one seeing as

A.. crimminals are generaly not going to burgle a property if the owner is in , it is far more sensible to burgle an empty property , fact !!

    and

B if an intended sex crime in the home the victim usualy knows the perp( a well recorded fact ) so would probably let them in and sit chatting with them with a firearm well out of the way

what happens if they strike when you are sound asleep ?? once you are in deep sleep it is rare you would be woken a burgler can pretty easily walk around the room you are in taking items without waking you , fact !! one of wich would probably be your own firearm !! if they weren’t armed in the first place , they are now !!

i remember one guy saying ” i had a packet of cigarettes stolen from my unlocked pickup truck , i’m gonna buy me a gun ! “

i fully remember another american saying ” wouldn’t it have been easier to take your cigarettes in and lock your truck !”

Nope, the entire research that lead to that piece of BS you posted is utter crap & fabrication from the start. It was totally debunked years ago as being utterly worthless & without merit, yet is trotted out by the anti’s at every available opportunity, despite everyone knowing it’s absolute drivel. Kellerman has zero credibility & you quoting him doesn’t add anything except misinformation to your post. The guy is a idiot.

lets put it this way unles you permenently cary a gun on you 100 % of the time you are just as vunerable as not actualy having one

go on , tell me you can get to your gun cupboard , draw , wherever reach in , get it aim and fire , before the already armed crim has put a nice ventilation hole in the rear of your skull !!

or what about your own young family members comming home late at night climbing in through an open window because of misslaid keys ( i did it regular )

or what if in the same week you find your wifes having an affair with your neighbour , you have been made redundant , the mrs gets custody of the dog

an all too convenient way out and to take others with you ( it happens , a millionaire did it over here before burning his stables and mansion down )

what about the unarmed crim that gets to your guns before you

a gun owner will always say anything about his gun / guns is bull**** gun owners will tell you the sky is green and grass is blue .

it is the typical macho attitude if they think thier macho toys are under threat !!

taken from a report detailing percentages of firearms related deaths

the probability of suicide or accidental death is actualy vastly above the bennefits of the percieved protection

you are actualy more likeley to kill yourself or a family member than a criminal

The issue of “home defense” or protection against intruders or assailants may well be misrepresented. A study of 626 shootings in or around a residence in three U.S. cities revealed that, for every time a gun in the home was used in a self-defense or legally justifiable shooting, there were four unintentional shootings, seven criminal assaults or homicides, and 11 attempted or completed suicides (Kellermann et al, 1998). Over 50% of all households in the U.S. admit to having firearms (Nelson et al, 1987). In another study, regardless of storage practice, type of gun, or number of firearms in the home, having a gun in the home was associated with an increased risk of firearm homicide and suicide in the home (Dahlberg, Ikeda and Kresnow, 2004). Persons who own a gun and who engage in abuse of intimate partners such as a spouse are more likely to use a gun to threaten their intimate partner. (Rothman et al, 2005). Individuals in possession of a gun at the time of an assault are 4.46 times more likely to be shot in the assault than persons not in possession (Branas et al, 2009). It would appear that, rather than beign used for defense, most of these weapons inflict injuries on the owners and their families.

I’d rather see more Specials on the beat rather than the waste of space Blunkett (NON) Bobbies – at least they can carry out the full range of duties instead of standing around calling for a real copper to appear…

but in reality !! would they ?? and what sort would be recruited from the aftermath of the riots ??

you would probably get an opinionated bunch of vigilantes
