The last Mirage 2000D was delivered in 2001.
There are around 60 D’s out of 80 or so built in service at Nancy, plus Mirage 2000N at Istres are now not exclusively roled for nuclear strike.

2KN hve been launched against ground target as early as the early 90’s. After GWI and the Jag perfs, there was probably a deficit in A2G platform.

In 95 for example, A 2KN was shot down over Pro-Serb held territories over Bosnia by a Sa-7

Which where Rafale is at its best 😉

Perhaps if you hve in mind WWII like AAA with 88 German manned guns…

US had some substantial losses with their 111 over Libya. And it’s still hard to match the low level/speed capacity of that plane.

So yes, low level might still be a great thing for the ingress when you do not hve potent stealth built in but… I doubt that the guys in the target area will be as cooperative as your post seems to depict.

Integrated SA networks hve become a strategic asset since the 70’s. You don’t defeat such things with tactics. Try to keep in mind that 22’s & B2’s are based far from any potential enmy sensors.

I think that re-reading (again) your scenario, you shld re-read the story behind the 117 that was shot down in Serbia (was it n in AIR International or Air Force Monthly ?)

    @Andra:
35 hve TVN with 4T of extra thrust… That might count for a substantial amount of wing surf in a turn 😉
same for max ceiling: it’s a matter of overall lift and speed.

Probably it will tell us more about the J20 eng. I mean it makes sense to build an indigenous cargo plane once you’ve got your own fighter engine

Wonder if they also hve an airliner that will fill the same trend.

Hardly a stop gap solution but more a highly controversial political decision.

Fairly, you’d hve to add the price of the refurbishing process to the sale price (+ the price of the SEM upgrade at the time to makes them looks potentially deterrent in the fleet defense role) ;).

Hopefully FAF had a potent 2K in service and hve avoided the disastrous experience that the Eurofighter group experienced in a similar situation.

So if I do understand well, they are going to buy SE with unknown dev costs (and effective results regarding LO) just that they can use them in the same way they actually fly their regular 15?

It remind me the Aussy story with their “wired” F-18 said to be ready for a Growler conversion

The kind of war that the ROK defense ministry envisions is a WW1 scale all out war with a combined troop strength of 1.5 million communist troops(PLA + North Korean army) in the worst case scenario.

You need to be able to drop a couple thousand tons of munitions a day to battle this kind of enemy.

I understand that but a Silent 15 won’t bomb any more than a regular one… In fact less.

If we were talking about a silent B1 (there is some img on the web) then I would hve agreed.

It does not make any sense. You do not order F15SE to make a practicable bomb truck when you alrdy hve dual mission F15s.

Your SE won’t carry any more bombs in the so called “Silent” configuration.

@Sens : I think you are mixing the nbrs.

May you remember that there was 2vs of the Flagon: One early with delta wing and a conical nose radome and one with double delta wing and a more curved radome’s line (conical is more draggy but easier to make it transparent to radar).

In my memory the Su15 was fast: 2.4 or 2.6

That it has poor maneuverability and a high speed landing with a high sink rate: yes. But you shld take into account that it was built as a long range interceptor at a time when this does makes a difference.

Btw, regarding the range, I do remember a survey study after the NATO intervention in Serbia showing that only a few of the fighters had in effect the range for their claimed mission. For example, Mirages based in France and supposed to fly mission over Germany, simply cldn’t hve achieved such perf.

Regarding the over stretched US budget and comparing it to the collapse of old SU, I think the comparison is utterly valid. I don’t know if there is a constitutional law that prevent anyone in the congress to use the word “nimble” but from where I stand, it looks that way 😉

For the barrel roll maneouvre, I guess that even the PVO jockey wasn’t surprised of the end result 😀

Don’t forget the Italians and their M-346.

Now that Israel has committed into the prog, you now hve three serious nations that might find a commune interest in pushing this sleek design further up (Russia is the third I am thinking of)
