Hi all
the book is given away. Thanks for the interest.

Well
I developed some fear after a hairy landing in a Dan-Air BAC 1-11 landing at Gatwick some 20 years back during heavy cross-wind conditions (touched down on the third attempt after 2 go-arounds…..)
Cured with a flight in a Ju-52/3m plus a parachute jump from a Pilatus PC-6 Turbo Porter (both on the same day !) some two years later.

Makes sense to fill them with no longer needed war materials.
What sense – can’t see any. Burying high quality steel and aluminium ?
Or to create treasure troves for a lucky finder some decades later ?

…that’s why the B-29 has been nicknamed “Dreamboat” – what would the Windsor deserve then ? Barge ?

Hi
from 1000aircraftphotos:
“There were at least 2 prototypes: DW506 as Type 447 with Merlin 65, DW512 as Type 457 with Merlin 82. A source states that a 3rd prototype had flown before the type was cancelled.”

Yep
there have been more exciting gatherings at LFA than this year…
Also the F8F-2 Bearcat (F-AZRJ) and one P-51D (F-AZJJ) will not be coming as they are currently up for sale (US$ 1.85 and US$ 1.3 million respectively !)
Anyway – this beauty will show up (taken last year at Air Poche One, France, 19th July 2003)
😡 the attachment wont work 😡

I just found out that D-FFMB would have been ready for the ILA, but the MBB people didn’t allow it to go due to questionable weather.
Here’s a link to some shots taken during a test-flight on 27th April (link copied from LBB board)

Nope – the Me-109G didn’t make it to ILA due to some teething problems; it had performed a number of test-flights prior to the show but eventually stayed home….

Mr. Clarence E. “Bud” Anderson and Mr. Charles E. “Chuck” Yeager fly regularly P-51’s from the front-seat ! Normally at Oshkosh, but also on other occasions. Bud Anderson told me (personally, during Air Poche One in France one week after Legends 2003), that he also flew the Cavalier TF-51D from the front seat on Friday before Legends 2003.
Bud Anderson is scheduled to fly a P-51D over the Beaches during the D-Day celebrations.

Swissair ran a limited service through Europe during WW 2, mainly with DC-2’s and DC-3’s- but there were no BOAC flights into Switzerland at all. There were destinations in Germany and Italy, but IIRC also London. They lost a DC-2 at Stuttgard Airfield during an Allied strafing run in 1944.
There is a great book on Swissair 1939 – 1945 (written in German…) I could organize for you or make a an English summary (as time permits).

Nah !
It was the 12th May 1973 – one day event only – two flights from Meiringen Air Base.
And generally spoken: Such schemes or even a small personalized nose-art on Swiss AF aircraft always was some sort of clandestine operation during these days. Only during the late 80’s and beyond, such repaints became more official.
