I was hoping for a 16-cell MICA vertical launch system upgrade for Taiwan’s ships.

“My suggestion to you would be Rio De Janeiro in Brazil. I have never been myself, but know of others that have been, and all have said how wonderful it was.

Please let us know where in the world you decide to go…!”

My fiancée and I have been to Arizona dozens of times and she has been to hawaii at least a half dozen times. I have never been to Hawaii and I would only go to see the Pearl Harbour Memorial.

The other day a whole bunch of Sandal’s Resort magazines and brochures (Caribbean locations) came in the mail. I am guessing my fiancée requested those brochures. This is a good example of how are marriage will be. She will want one thing and I will want another thing and then we will compromise and do what she wants.:D

I would like to go some where I or my fiancée have never been. That is hard because my fiancée has been all over the world. We decided that we want to go to a place where we can relax because we both will need it after the wedding. We decided against Europe, Australia / New Zealand, and Asia because if we went to one of those places we would be running around trying to see everything that we would not be able to relax. My fiancée really wants to go to the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas but she has been to the Bahamas before and the Bahamas do not appeal to me at all. Has anyone ever went on vacation to Argentina or Chile? Places like that appeal to me more.

“Following the day-long firings, HS Nearchos finally sunk late in the evening.”

This ship took two Exocet missiles, a Hellfire missile, and a torpedo and was still floating? Wow. Was that just dumb luck or what?

    12.7mm

I understand the two 27mm cannons but FIVE 12.7mm heavy machine guns. That is ridiculous. I am also surprised they went with all American made missiles. They should have also used the 155mm cannon from the PzH-2000 instead of the OTO 127mm cannon.

I agree with Nastle! Pakistan should concentrate on subs, attack craft, and Corvettes. After those three new classes of ships have entered Pakistan’s navy then they can start looking at capital ships!

In fact the nature of the engagements that NK/SK usually fight the gun armament will be far more important than the missiles. In fact there may not even be that much use for RAM.

I agree with what you wrote but I still think RAM (or some SAM / Anti-missile system) is important in modern day combat. If one of these new ships had a couple of North Korean Silkworm missiles locked on it I bet the Captain would disagree with you and would want a SEA RAM system available to him. I know I would.

    No export potential

    KJ,

I understand and totally agree with everything you wrote. I am just surprised how conventional the design is in this day of age. Some stealth features wouldn’t have cost that much more. This design is just as conventional as the Po Hang Class Corvette that was built 25 years earlier. I just wish they added some stealth features.

The current plan is to build 40 of these crafts, 16 of it SSM-armed and 24 gun-only.

The 24 gun only ships. Will they be fitted for but not with SSM or will they not even be fitted? Will there just be an empty spot were the SSM are located or will they add some other equipment?

    S-1000 Class

IMO they should have purchased a total technology transfer and built 9 S-1000 class submarines in Venezuela and skipped the Kilo and Amur classes all together.

Venezuela must think they need new subs now are they would not have made a split purchase wtih the Kilo and Amur Classes. Looks like the new American Littoral Combat Ships will have something to practice on in the Gulf of Mexico / Atlantic Ocean when they become operational.

    good but not great!

This ship looks good and has a good weapons fit minus a SAM system. I would have tried to fit the SEA RAM some where. however, I am disappointed on how conventional the design is. I was expecting something a lot more stealthy from the South Koreans.

    S-1000

If Chavez can wait for the subs then he should purchase the S-1000 sub. I believe the S-1000 is an upgraded Amur 950 sub with an Italian built AIP. Italy has long and strong military ties with Chavez so I don’t think they oppose the sale. If Chavez thinks he needs the subs now then he has no choice but to purchase the Kilo 636. Maybe he will do a split buy of Four Kilo 636 and Four S-1000. That would make a strong submarine fleet and would allow the two remaining Type-209 class subs to become training vessels.

    pic

I remembering seeing a pic with an A10 armed with two Sidewinders and four twin Stinger launchers for a total of 10 air to air missiles. I thought that was impressive on a tank busting aircraft.

The bottom left pic looks like two built up AAA sites or MANPAD sites. I doubt they are radars.

P.S How is your North Korean Navy project coming along??
