The Su-25 / A-10 would be over kill for the Philippines. I doubt the rebels have Tor-M1 SAMs or anything modern like that in their inventory. The EMB-314, PC-21, & etc. would be enough aircraft to take care of the COIN operations. The USAF can barely keep the A-10 fleet in the air the Philippines would have no chance to keep an A-10 fleet operational.

The A-10 makes NO sense for the Philippine Air Force. The A-10 fleet is also in terrible shape and many have been cannibalized to keep others operational. The A-10 has been a work horse for the USAF for so long and now that is taking its toll on the fleet. An aircraft like the EMB-314 or the PC-21 would make a lot more sense for the Philippine Air Force.
Japan needs to start building aircraft carriers and buy the rights to build the F/A-18E & EF-18G to replace the F-4 fleet. Then in 15 years buy the rights to build the F-35 to replace the F-15 fleet. This would leave the F-2 as their only land based fighter and give Japan the same fighter mix as the USN.

British cuts
Any guesses on what ships will be put into mothballs? Will any of these ships be sold or just rust away in reserve?
But would you take one of those into the South Atlantic or either of the Capes in winter ?
Yes, Coast Guard Ships are frequently in bad weather saving people’s lives. That is their job and bad weather is what their ships are designed for. Even the smaller cutters that were designed for 14-day patrols are patroling for over 90 days in all sort of conditions. I would take most USCG ships over many ships in the Navy for their sea keeping abilities.
black radar dome
When the F-16 first joined American service she had a black radar dome like these J-10s. There is a story about how the F-16 was getting its butt kicked by older fighters in mock battles. They asked the pilots flying the older fighters how they were doing so good and they responeded that they could see the black radar dome of the F-16 miles away. The USAF quickly changed the color of the radar dome after that.
Hamilton Class
Not quite, as what we are discussing is a blue water patrol craft that could be operated thousands of miles from home and potentially at most latitudes and Sea states.
The USCG Hamilton class large patrol cutters was built for long endurance cruises far from friendly bases back in the 1960s. I believe that the LCS-2 will win the naval contract and the Coast Guard will get a stripped down version of the LCS-1 to replace the ageing Hamilton Class Cutters.
Coast Guard
“second-class ‘patrol’ units capable of stop and search etc but on a massively reduced annual running cost.”
Isn’t this what the Coast Guard is for. Leave the warships for the navies and leave the patrol ships to the Coast Guard. This would mean investing more money into national Coast Guards but that is a wise investment.
and I think to consider that censorship is utterly ridiculous.
What would you consider it then?? Maybe you just dont know what censor means. Here you go….

the U.S. is committed to its nuclear submarine force, and has no plans to develop subs like the Gotland.
That is bad news for Taiwan. When I first heard news of the US leasing the Gotland I thought for sure the US would copy this deadly sub and sell it to Taiwan. As each month goes by it does not look like the USA has any plans or any intent on helping Taiwan get subs as promised.
The Pucara’s have also been retired after SAM threats.
That is too bad. I really like that bird!
