I found the opposite when I retired. I lost weight and was eating better. Sitting at a desk all day I was constantly grazing, crisps, biscuits, sweets, fizzy drinks etc. and when I got home from work I didn’t fancy cooking.

Since retiring I spend more time walking up and down the hangars and crowd line several times a week at Duxford and long Bimbles around London so get more than enough exercise without having to go to a gym. I have more time to prepare food for cooking, spent 11 years in the Junior Ranks Mess at Finningley as a basic food handler so know how to cook, and feeling a lot better for it.

Although when I have my annual medical MoT, according to the BMI index I am slightly overweight for my height but the doctor looks me up and down and gives me a tick in the pass box.

Firefox has a built in adblocker which I had turned on. I turned it off and I see your problem now. There was a piece of video at the top of the page trying to load and freezing the page and it kept coming back as ‘Firefox Not Responding’ and when it did the page was jumping as I tried to click on something. Adblocker is back on now and not a problem again.

Temporary solution, turn on or download an adblocker.

First thing I noticed when the museum opened was that the Monarch Britannia was back in Airliner Row after its repaint in AirSpace. Amongst the GA visitors was a Swiss registered PC-12 that parked up at 11.30 and took off just gone two o’clock in the afternoon with a practice aborted take off and once airbourne swung around and came back for a practice approach from the other direction and climbed out to return to Biggin Hill. T-28 Fennec/N14113/’Little Rascal’ was up and about several times this afternoon with what looked like final flights for some of the syndicate that owned it. In the late afternoon the T-28 departed Duxford, having arrived 20 years earlier in 1997, for the Channel islands where it would be collected by its new owner for onward delivery to its new home in France. Despite the blue sky and sunshine, there was high cloud and haze diffusing the light and when the PC-12 left, the outside temperature was a warm +4C. In the order taken.

Don’t normally carry a long lens with me during the winter months as it’s very quiet, war bird flying wise, at Duxford until about the start of the air show season. If the last two weeks are anything to go by I think I should start packing one sooner rather than later. The Fighter Collection P-40F went for its first flight since the end of 2015 with a spot of aerobatics over the airfield after its handling flight and the T-28 went up for a short flight . The Classic Wings Harvard ‘Wacky Wabbit’ returned after its winter break. There were also reports that some Brass Monkeys were seen heading south for some warmer weather. In the order taken.

    Saturday ~ 07Jan17

Had intended spending Saturday in London but by the time I got to Cambridge rail station the weather, mist and mizzle, had descended and a check on my weather app showed the same for London so I went to Duxford instead. Took the opportunity to wander around the hangars getting in some hand held/manual focus/very low shutter speed practice so a few photos of some aircraft not normally covered on my Bimbles around Duxford. Despite the naff weather, a lot of visitors visiting and the mist and mizzle did lift by mid afternoon. In the order taken and all at 1/2 second with apertures and ISO adjusted for that speed.

Beautiful wall to wall blue sky and sunshine day but woolly hats and gloves were still required. The Fighter Collection provided the entertainment with both their P-40C & F having engine runs and thanks to TFC for parking them on the Jet Pan for easy photographic access. During the engine runs I got my first proper sight, since its arrival, of the bright yellow ex Boscombe Down/QinetiQ Harvard which made a brief appearance in the sunshine as the camouflaged T-28 was extracted from Hangar 2 which went flying later in the afternoon after I had left. In the order taken.

As the Museum likes to get aircraft movements out of the way before the Public are let loose inside, some over the fence shots in far from ideal lighting conditions of the Britannia on its Bimble from Airliner Row to AirSpace where it will be tucked up nice and warm for the next couple of weeks while it has a bit of paint applied. In the order taken.

Last visit of the year, possibly, and was greeted with a spot of aerobatics as the Duxford based Cosmic Wind cleared the cobwebs away as it was thrown around above the airfield in the wall to wall blue sky and sunshine. Very quiet otherwise with the Monarch Britannia more or less ready, having had its paintwork rubbed down, for its move into AirSpace Conservation Hall for a repaint at the start of next year. Photos in the order they were taken.

Maybe the F-35, Merlin EH101 and ‘glorified tech showroom’ are absolutely relevant to the RAFM…

…because they represent ‘sponsorship’ of the facility as a recruiting tool for the RAF and others?

But it’s not a Merlin EH101. It’s a civilian Helliliner rigged out for carrying civilian passengers and as an type not flown by the RAF how is it relevant to the RAFM?. The RAF no longer operate Merlin’s they’ve all gone to the Navy.
