According to the letter I got from the SVAS with the Prop-Swing magazine today, landing fees are free for pilots who are members, £12 for non members.

Duxford offices plan for historic RAF officers’ mess
A former RAF officers’ mess once home to World War Two fighter pilots including Spitfire ace Douglas Bader, is to be turned into offices.
The 80-year-old building in Duxford, Cambridgeshire was last used by the military in 1961 and is owned by the Imperial War Museum (IWM) Duxford.
Plans include a new courtyard which will contain a “visual history” of its former RAF life and residents.
The IWM said many of the building’s historic features would be retained.
In recent years the Grade II-listed site has been used mainly as storage for items from the museum, on the opposite side of the road.
The plans for its conversion, approved by South Cambridgeshire District Council, will give the building “a new lease of life”, the museum’s interim director Alan Stoneman, said.
The developer’s proposals include retaining the sash windows, cast iron radiators and original labelling above doors as well as many of the internal spaces.
“It will be wonderful to see the officers’ mess renovated in a style that embeds its history into its modern-day use. It will be an inspirational setting for its users,” Mr Stoneman said.
Guy Baker, from developer Mantle, said the company was experienced in the regeneration of historic buildings and “will be respecting the human stories associated with the space”.
Work is expected to begin early next year.

Only went to Duxford today as the sun was shining and I haven’t been for a week. Only noticeable changes since my last visit is that P-51/’Etta Jeanne II’ in 5 hangar is now back together and the Bolingbroke IVT(Modified)/Blenheim I is now tucked up in hangar 3 for winter hibernation and the Catalina in hangar 2 is up on jacks with its wheels off. Because of the variable lighting conditions inside the hangars, I did start using flash to take photos but resorted to using the in-camera HDR function on my little Sony Nex-6 Compact Systems Camera to bring out the detail in the highlights and shadows.

7 hours of sheer luxury.
Only 7 hours, try 4 days in a Britannia. Singapore and back stopping off and Ankara and Bombay on route. 😀
Remember flying out the Cyprus to visit the parents one year and a Brittannia troop ship too off from Brize Norton one hour before we did in a VC-10. We passed it as we went down the leg of Italy, our pilot pointed it out, and the Britannia touch down at Akrotiri an hour after we did.

I did notice that all the ‘hung’ RFC aircraft are heading in one direction towards the Fokker DVII which is heading towards them. 😀

There were more museum staff wandering around the factory than members of the public. Apart from a few school parties, the main museum was pretty empty as well. Mind you the weather was cold/misty/mizzling at the time.
I just had cursory glances at the other artifacts in the display cabinets but I though the interior of the ‘Nissan Hut’ was a bit sparce and I nearly missed the dog in an RFC Jacket as the cupboard door at the back was shut. Curiosity made me open it.
Brian
I nearly did trip over it as I was trying to compose a shot of the aircraft in the rafters.

The Snipe is parked where the Typhoon that went to Canada used to be in the main hangars.

I quite like what they have done in here. A bit more access to some of the aircraft and views of them you wouldn’t see if they were sitting on the ground. The lighting conditions appear to be an improvement on what it was before. One annoying thing is the rather loud noise coming from the moving map display on the floor.

You’ve edited your post Mike, pity.

Correct it’s ‘not an original Blenheim’, it’s a Fairchild Bolingbroke.

Officially opened today by HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Yep, in one of those long workshop buildings just behind the hangars, you can see it through the windows, although the center wing section is still in hangar 5.

The IWM Bolingbroke was being worked on in 5 hangar in 2009 & 10
