    Sunday 3rd June

A different type of warbird flying at Duxford today when ‘DEMON 11’ flight, a pair of Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt II of the 107th Fighter Squadron based at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Michigan, flew a couple of missed approaches at Duxford before returning to Mildenhall. They had been to France to take part in the annual D-Day Anniversary event near Cherbourg. The lead A-10 was wearing a special paint scheme commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the 107th Squadron/“Red Devils”. The Squadron is on deployment to Europe. Three passes had been booked but the A-10’s were a bit late and the Hawker Fury was waiting to depart to open the Old Warden air show so we only had two circuits. Photos in the order taken.

    Thursday 24th May

A very quiet day at Duxford punctuated by a brief flurry of activity in the afternoon with a practice display by the The Patrouille Acrobatique de France and after they had finished my first chance to catch the new Spitfire PR.XI/PL983 flying. In the order taken.

The show will go on says IWM Duxford – despite travellers illegally camping close by.

A large group of travellers, with about 20 caravans, have moved onto land close to the museum with just days to go before one of its famous air shows is staged.

They are believed to be the same group of travellers that were camped illegally on land half a mile down the road near Thriplow.

In a statement, IWM Duxford said: “We are working with the relevant authorities to resolve the situation. We intend to hold this weekend’s Duxford Air Festival as planned and IWM Duxford remains open as normal. Any further updates will be posted on @IWMDuxford.”

Cambridgeshire police said it was aware of the issue.

A spokesman told the News: “We are aware of a traveller encampment at Duxford airfield. The usual visits and assessments have been carried out by the force and the county council is aware.”

The land is owned by Gonville and Caius College which police said was leading efforts to evict the travellers. The News has contacted the college for a comment.

The old BoB Hall, or ‘Hangar 1 – RAF Stories, The First 100 Years 1918–2018 and RAF – First to the Future’ as it’s now known is open to the public ‘For Preview’. I’ve been and a few display’s need populating with exhibits but the bulk of it is there. The old Milestones of Flight building now called ‘Hangar 6 – The RAF in an Age of Uncertainty’ is also open.

    Saturday 19th May

Another glorious sunny war bird Saturday at Duxford. As the wind was favoring the 06 end of the runway, I spent over 5 hours on the tank bank overdosing on Vitamin D. In the order taken.

    Friday 18th May

A short visit to Duxford for me today despite plenty going on in the sunshine with pilots and war birds out on handling flights prior to departing for air shows like the Twochon and Spitfire FR XIV which went off to La Ferté-Alais.
