BR I think the important thing is not to over complicate it, what you may find is that if you start adopting this technique your instructor “may” say “naa don’t do it like that, do it like this”.
I guess the bottom line is, use what works for you, if your nav technique works now that you have learnt from PPL/Hr building then don’t change it.
In answer to your original question I haven’t heard of, or used that technique before

Ask me again in 4 weeks and I’ll say me, have you got your own aircraft by any chance? (unlikely I know)

I just checked the approach charts, for runway 22 it is an ILS/DME CAT I approach so the 200ft DH stands, runway 04 is a VOR/DME approach only, so a non precision approach, the MDA (Minimum Descent Altitude) here for a Category C aircraft is 370ft
Which direction did you conduct the approach from? that would answer your question

    Hope this helps

Depends on whether it was a CAT I, CAT II or CAT III approach, if a CAT I approach then DH would be 200ft AGL, as you didn’t descend through the mist I would suggest the CAT I approach was the case

Hmm, well Mr O’Leary might want to look at FRs policy on pilot recruitment, because I can see that alot of these shiny new 738s will be sat on the ground with no crews to fly them, even the low hr’d wannabes are starting to steer clear now, I know of several 250hr pilots who wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole. So long as the recruitment market stays as buoyant as it is I can’t see this changing for some time.
