I would imagine RIAT would have more pulling power, larger crowds, more tv coverage ect, but RIAT does not tend to have many foreign warbirds and relies mainly on UK stuff.
I cant see it as a problem if the Canadian Lanc comes over as Duxford and Fairford can not be that far apart by air. Just look at how many shows Diamond Lil apeared at. I just cann’t see the BBMF Lanc and Canadian Lanc flying together, well not without a 500ft seperation. We all know how the BBMF feels about flying with other aircraft.
The thing we all need to remember is that enthusiasts make up only a small percentage of the crowd and so do not effect the amount of visiters as much as we would like to think.

In this case the crash was not that long ago and the picture shows the SPAD upturned with Harry Doan probably still trapped inside (he reportedly didn’t die instantly). I wont go into the story of how that apparently happened. This was an accident and not the result of war so doesn’t have such “historic” significance. I only met him once but he seemed a really nice and helpful guy. The sensitivity around the death remains current for his relatives etc.

Fair enough but does this mean that there are no relatives from photos taken before this one? and I have seen alot of historic crash photos that were not caused by air combat.
I am not trying belittle the loss of a pilot (or anybody else) as any loss is sensitive to the people concerned wether it was 10 years ago or 60.

If this shot was from Vietnam then would anyone question this? I find it rather two faced that everybody kicks off when its a preserved aircraft but if its a WWII pic then they want to know every detail wether somebody died or not!
I feel its up to the individual, if there wasnt a market for this material then it wouldnt sell.

Could this be anything to do with the possibilty of the Vulcan doing a bit of a round-robin at both shows?

    Just wondering out loud…

I cant see what the Vulcan has to do with Legends as its not old enough :diablo:

I always save my shots to disc unedited first, that way if I over write the image I have a true backup to fall back on.

Sculthorpe is still used for excersises, mainly by helicopters but Hercs have used it as well. I am not sure if they land or just do drops.

I notice a lack of RAF hardware, fair enough, we’re being told it’s due to operational commitments in Afghanistan and Iraq, but, I heard on the radio the other day, following the USAF friendly fire incident, that all we had in Afghanistan were 12 Harriers, so where is everything being deployed, the Welsh Valleys?
Not knocking the RAF, they are the dogs, but how many operational a/c do we have, surely not all the best pilots are flying 12 Harriers around the Kybher Pass at low level.
    Over to you BigVerne.

The RAF has totally changed its displays for this year. They are doing role demos and only at a selected number of events. The Harrier has not displayed at all this year and was never sceduled to.

The Fury also flew over The Great Dorset Steam Fair, did some aeros a few miles away and then flew off. It was a great sight as its been a while since I have seen her in the air. The BBMF also flew over almost in formation with a Chinook!! Any body know where they were off to?

Very funny, but what most people do not realise is that the Death Star attack is heavly influanced by the Dambusters film!!
Check the formations that the X-wings and Y-wings fly in when they enter the trench. George Lucas classes the Dambusters as one of his faverate films.

I also use the tank museum end. I dont know anywhere else where you will get a Seafire fly over your head at 100 feet!! It happened at this years show, although it was probably higher it didn’t seem it!:diablo:
Have a look at my website o see the sort of shots you can get 99% of the duxford shots are from that end.
