Not a stupid question – I see where you were going with that.. re bail out, it may be that the damaged undercarriage jammed on attempted retraction? Certainly the leg that was recovered was buckled, suggesting that it wasn’t fully retracted on impact. Pure conjecture, of course.

Yes, you can tell by the hair!

If you have more pics of that tyre, Andy, that would be great – just to confirm that it IS the same as the one we saw 34 years later.

No hulk to rebuild – just a couple of smallish lumps that were pulled down deep behind the engines. If you mean a flying repro.. I’m sure if you paid he and several others would be delighted to!

It’s that “Private Collection in London” again. Such a big collection, must be why they had to make up descriptions of what they had..

I don’t know enough to tell. It’s torn on one side.. We don’t have it, it would take a return to the owner’s to look at it forensically. Also, what if it’s the other tyre?

Of course, there’s no dispute that tyre damage on take-off was a cause. It’s just the reasons for that damage that might be explained by the wrong tyres being fitted.

The staff will also select parts of documents to scan at quotation stage, if you need them to – so for example you can say ‘any tables of figures’ or ‘any pictures of ‘X’ without seeing the document, if necessary. This is a way to avoid unnecessary copying expense – if there are no pictures of ‘X’ in a selected document, then the doc won’t get copied at all. I haven’t tried ‘any references to ‘X’ – may not work, as this is approaching ‘research’..

It is, really. Mike seems confident.. the primary structure does break down into fairly simple major components, but then Petter seems to have gone on to add extra layers of over-engineering.

With enormous thanks to Steve Vizard, and through Matt P’s wizardry, we now have 3D scans of the largest chunks of P6966 accurate to 0.008 inch – here’s a sample image of one of the nacelle / spar sections.

This data will be fed straight into Gunnar’s CAD design, and thus incorporated in the ‘production’ drawings that this generates.

Link is in there now, Andy. Hmm, a ‘factory photograph’? But then, if you read the small print, this would appear to be an American who doesn’t believe Canada to be a foreign country.

Looking forward to a teleconference at some point, Dave, once Gunnar has handed over the drawings. Wish I lived closer so I could do more ‘hands on’ – I’m sure that goes for a few of us.

Latest news – we have secured all the funding we need for the rear fuselage section (thanks to a very generous gesture on the part of one of our members) and are happy that we have all the info we need to do this. Mike will have workshop space and time from October, and we aim to complete in time for a roll out early next year at an AGM with speakers and film etc. Of course, if anyone wants to donate materials we would still welcome them and save some money for the next phase!

What are they? If they are a unique record – factory drawings not generally known to exist, for example – then please encourage your friend to lodge copies with the appropriate collection before selling the originals as artifacts.
Of course, the most money by far would be made by putting them on e b*y as ‘genuine original Avro Spitfire bomber jet documents’, or so it would seem.
