John, we have horseless carriages now, no need to pedal. The Daily Worker ceased publication in 1966.

And since when has the Independent ever been the official organ of a party? I think you will find that was the point of it – to distance itself as far as possible from any ‘wing’. Liberal, very probably (the ability to see alternative viewpoints goes with that territory). But not left.

Before disagreeing about its content try reading it.

..and the answer is yes, thanks to the now forgotten ‘Maybury Scheme’ which was a central government plan to set up a permanent network of short air routes between all UK centres of population. World War II put a stop to the scheme’s developments, but it left as a legacy a few new ‘Marconi’ D/F receiving stations, built in 1938-39 all a few miles out from their parent airfields.

One such was at Plympton, which served Roborough.

There is so little written about this subject – but there are some scraps of sources if you Google deeply enough!

Same here – I expect some can guess which ones I am waiting for! But I have a job (and live in Whitby now).

It does show that they do want these done, though, which is reassuring.

    A classic.

You say it’s left-leaning and anti-brexit, but you have never read it? A gem, sir. A proper John Green emerald.

A moment of clarity from our Mr. Green? No, probably not.

Are you suggesting the ‘left leaning’ Independent was lying in that report, then? Or what?

Thanks smirky! From the images I was able to glean that Plymouth had HF/DF (and this is what I was getting at) by 1945. So big question for me is.. did they in December 1940?

You sound like Trump. Narrowly winning a popular vote on an anti-foreigner and truth-bending ticket doesn’t make your ‘facts’ true.

So the Independent.. who’s editorial stance is more than hinted at by the name.. is both ‘left leaning’ and ‘anti-brexit’ because it reports something you’d rather not see reported?

You do realise that this Trumpy stance will only serve to link ‘left leaning’ with ‘telling the truth’ in a way that I’m sure you wouldn’t want to see happen.

You know what? I am just going to let it all play out. I will watch this thread to see when the Trump Won America Tribe (I know how much Americans love acronyms) as represented here work it all out for themselves. There’s no point anyone going on about it – if we try, we’re the enemy.

I do not care what others do

Then why quote at length what someone did seventy three years ago?

We are speaking of Soros and his links to Clinton

No, you very specifically were not. You were speaking of Soros and his survival of the holocaust as a boy because his father paid for an official trusted by the nazis to swear he was Christian – something you appear to hold against him. I question the relevance, and you come back with:

your rhetoric is like a nebulous cloud

..as opposed to the non-nebulous sort?

vague as it changes to fit what ever you want it to fit at the moment

Sorry, what? Do you know what rhetoric means? Look up the Aristotelian definition.

    And, for the record: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2016/oct/10/donald-t…

Not sure I understand why you posted that, are you confused that real life in extremis isn’t the way Hollywood would want it?
You do realise he was a 14 year old boy, who if he’d said ‘wait, I’m jewish’ would have not only likely got him killed – but also his protector? What would you have done? Not Clint bleedin Eastwood, you?

It makes me wonder how many other philanthropists – as well as writers, composers, inventors, scientists and more were among the millions who did not have the means to survive as George Soros did.

Leaving aside your insistance on the meaningless ‘liberal left’ badge, I don’t know how one can make claims for ‘leftness’ in being dubious about brexit. Firstly that debate, as has been affirmed repeatedly, cross-cuts both party lines and marxist/capitalist ideologies. Secondly any sense of reservation reflects a country that only half wanted it.

I wasn’t aware of any pillory. Feeling dubious or doubtful is just a function of being aware of a counter-narrative to that bellowed by the powerful. Presenting that counter-narrative is a vital function of a free press. It’s not specifically left – and you might notice, if you observe closely, that Trumpism is not specifically right. Nationalist, and several other ‘-ists’ as well, granted – but being a Trump-doubter and/or anti-brexit does not a leftie make.

The thing that some people are scared of saying, but I am not, is that the BBC tend to employ intelligent people who can see what’s going on in their news teams. It kind of goes with the territory.

I meant what the cabinet did for a bob or two before. Not exactly anti-establishment and not entirely men of the people.

Not sure what is wrong with Soros. Is it that he’s a wealthy jew and not a wealthy aryan like Donald Duckwit?

Or is it that he prefers education and cooperation to ignorance and isolation? I can see how that might be a threat to some here.

The US has blundered, disoriented, into a simple trap – I wonder whether it was caused by a dislocation from history that meant there has been no frame of reference. Yes, people who see it for what it is are shouting from the rooftops. But it’s too late now.

No. Lift up thine eyes from the fake news and look at Trump. Look at his cabinet. Not what they tell you, what they actually do. Then tell me again that the ‘people’ won.

Got me on logic again John. Another beer owed, maybe (I did study it briefly).

Yes, it is an apocryphal phrase. But a good one.

The mastermind behind…. That’s right, of course he was.

Go on, how did he mastermind it? Or shall I just read thicknazi.com for myself?
