It took me a LONG time to get it right in my head

If the wheels were driven and moving at 150mph in the opposite direction then it would stay still.

However the wheels are castors, so if you were to move the conveyor belt backwards, the aircraft would move, yes but not at exactly 150mph? the wheels would spin etc.

The thrust from the engine, is not a direct force acting against the conveyor belt – it will still pull the aircraft through the air regardless of the speed at which the belt rotates/speed at which the wheels spin.

In short, the bearings might give out/tyres pop – she will fly 🙂

It has elsewhere, but not here

You are wrong. It can take off unless it is a very odd aircraft that uses powered wheels to reach flying speed.

    Moggy

Moggy old chap, if you look at the date when I posted this and my reply to VX above you’ll find I realised I was wrong last week 🙂

I had this going over and over and over in my mind, for hours the other night 🙁

The U/C Wheels are not driven. they’re castors – as a result the loss in forward momentun will be minimal and be dependant on the friction of the aircraft against the belt 🙂

The forward motion of the aircraft unlike that of a car doesnt have to act against the full opposite force of the conveyor.

So the wheels will spin REALLY fast but the aircraft will move forward eventually etc

    With me? lol

That shows that things are perhaps changing in the east 🙂

However, the small segments of english text in that video made me think of the star trek episode where the alien uses english words out of context that are part of his language 😀

Bex, apologies for the thread drift….

Intelligence is not a criteria for being a traffic policeman!

You know, I take offence to this. Aside from the fact that both my father and my mother were traffic police officers for 10+ years during their careers. I have not met a single a4sehole traffic police officer or any other type of police officer for that fact.

Upon what grounds/experience do you make that sweeping generalisation?

In my experience, people that slate the police are generally people who are bitter about being caught doing something they shouldnt be….

The complete lack of respect for the police in this country never ceases to amaze me to be honest we do an impossible job, with totally unrealistic figures to meet, dealing with some of the most unpleasant people in the country to deal with, on the whole unarmed and spread about as thin as clingfilm over area.

Gets my back right up 😡

You know Jon – I saw this thread title and INSTANTLY thought of the Dark Knight

My conclusion as to why its a 12a – There is no blood/gore

If it as a 15 rated film WB would have lost probably 30% of their audience….

There are a few other films about that I really dont think are bad enough to justify an 18 rating now

A Clockwork Orange – Imo there are plenty of 15s about that are worse
    Alien.

There are a few Ive seen recently I think should be higher rated – I cant think for the life of me what they actually are at the moment though.

The one film I watched that should not be for children – Watership Down – Its a horrifying film and definitely not for children!

My mind absolutely boggles when you consider how far aviation has come in a hundred years 😮

It still amazes me that there was only about 10 years between the design of the lancaster and the design of the vulcan!
