i typed it up word for word, the books ‘inside the stealth bomber’ published by MBI publishing company also says ‘motorbooks colour tech’ – i presume a series of books, page 39. Its an excellent book – very interesting read
I don’t see the link between Iraq and 9/11, nobody sees any except hypocrites who still want to believe in that link after it has been disproved so many time.
As for Afghanistan, after 9/11 most of Europe, and in particular France, was supporting the US in Afghanistan. That was before Iraq invasion and the antifrench hysteria, still prevailing in the US today. So we should reconsider our support to that too. Nowadays, European presence in Afghanistan is just here to allow more US troop to be sent in Iraq, making Europe an accomplice in that crime.
First off, Iraq? I am talking Afghanistan, and as for that, I do not see your point where there are still many more US troops in Afghanistan then any other nation…
Either way, like it or not, right or wrong, we have to continue to be in Iraq to clean up our own mess…if we leave now, they will fall and fail, then no one wins…
Basically what I am saying is that you are a complete idiot for posting what you did…
If you would honestly like to understand why Iraq was an issue…pm me, lets not do it on this thread.
While America finds Europeans reliable enough to die for America petty interests in Afghanistan and Irak, they don’t find them reliable enough to produce their tankers!
How hypocritical, cynical, and how low. Why am I still surprised?
I am not surprised that you feel that 2,752 innocent civilians, 500 of whom were from 91 foreign countries.(not to mention the 147 on the planes) are all considered petty reasons….
Furthermore, if this had happened to ANY of our allies, we would be there right beside them from start to finish….so take your crap and file it.
You mean the dispenser box that the chaff goes in? I do not know of any aircraft that the USAF uses that still use a separate pod for chaff.
🙂 If the chaff dispenser box has no power connected…how will the cell phone pop it off?
Have the debrief notes between Boeing and the USAF been made available yet?
you mean the political grandstanding that was on C-SPAN 😀
It was entertaining to say the least 😀
you are sadly misinformed
nothing at all like this happened
Its all speculation right now…I am just going by the congressional debrief that was on C-SPAN.
We will know more after the debrief with Boeing and NG is over.
If I eat crow…I will admit it, but that is how it looks right now.
I hope I am wrong…
The F-4D of the 11th Fighter Wing at Daegu AB s still there and will fly until 2010. As of Sept. 28th 2007, the 110th Fighter Squadron was disbanded however, leaving the 151st Fighter Squadron as the sole operator of F-4D in the world. The 110th is likely to be reformed with F-15K at a later date however.
The F-4Es will also serve until 2020 as bomb-trucks. No significant upgrade comparable to the Turkish or Greek ones are being considered, however. The F-4E fleet did receive the capability to launch Israeli Popeye missile though. No definitely replacement on this one. Maybe later batch of F-15K, or maybe F-35.
I tell you, those F-4 there were beautiful…
I’m afraid you’ve missed the point. You can fit two hoses, & refuel two aircraft simultaneously. .

South Korea still had them at taegu…anyone know if they are still there?
They were really well maintained.
And? What was the time scale, how long had the RFP been out before this change was made and realistically how much difference did this make to the final decision? Would the 777 have fitted within the new requirements? Was the A-330 outside of the original requirements?
All key questions that need answering before we can even speculate as to why the change was made.
Good points and I fully agree.
Go read this post on airliners.net it lists the changes made to the (draft) RFP during time: http://www.airliners.net/discussions/military/read.main/84213/ (post number 206 in the thread)
Thanks for posting that, I will go read it.
You clearly do care that Airbus won or you would not have spent the last few pages trying to use long out of production airframes and Boeing products to prove that Boeing does not have the potential for monopoly in the US without international competition.
We dont even know the exactl details of the change, it could very well have been (and given the time scale probably more likely) that Airbus had already all but won and the airforce just wanted to cement it. There is absolutely no evidence that the USAF ‘bent over backwards’. The USAF was obviously worried about the mission as they chose the best plane for it.:p
We do know two major changes, that of the wingtip clearance (from 50 feet to 25 feet), and the weight requirements of the airfields.
Your snipes about a) how much this Airbus win is going to cost financially to European taxpayers, and b) how Airbus could not outprice Boeing unless it was cheating just proves otherwise.
I never for one second said that they had cheeted… I simply asked how they were able to provide the airplane at such a reduced cost. I was clearly wrong about the Tax thing (because I do not understand how that works in Europe) I was asking for clarification.
This may be a shock to you and the others… Not ALL Americans are against Europeans and or their products..so do not make it out that that is the case. Just because I am critical of the RFP process that went on… does not mean that I want Boeing to win just because they are Boeing and they are American… I am very critical of Boeing for the Lease scandal as well…and if you read many of my posts, I am also highly critical on the modern business and ethics practices of Lockheed as well…
so do paint this up like it is an American who hates everything non-American… I never said that!
Let me translate what you are saying in plain words: how can a non-US company performs better than a US company unless it cheats.
Well, even if you dont want to hear it and probably can’t even fathom it, here it is: sometimes foreign companies do outperform US companies and provides more appropriate products, and without cheating. That has proven true in the autombile market and it is the case in this tanker case.
 I do not CARE that Airbus won… I just question how we are paying so little for it.
Yes, Europeans make great things, I in no way am slamming the European industrial base. Do not put words in my mouth.
