I would say soo, it’s still got the old radar, SARH R-27 and way too reliant on GCI, it might be a match in a dogfight but in a BVR fight against a ARH opponent with something like R-77, AIM-120 or whatever, it’s chances are not extremely good. Su-27SM is a totally different story.

Gripen is heavier by atleast 300KG from the current FC-1(production model of FC-1 is going to use composites to further reduce weight), Gripen uses canards and RD-33 is a little more efficient than F404. the key quality of RD-93 over older RD-33 is fuel efficiency and MTBO. It is given in AFM interview of April 2004.

listen to yourself man, that can’t possibly make a 400km difference there and back. So what if Gripen uses Canards? lol

wow, I cannot believe this guy. I am stopping all arguement with him right now.

So from where 1200KM and 600KM figures come from? Flug site has clearly posted Combat Radius above 1200KM and 700KM or should i high light this for you to see.? Flogger had tried to misrepresent facts from a website but he failed.

It’s common sense, the Gripen with similar sizes and weights carries the same fuel load and has a range of 800km, how can an FC-1 have 400 more km of range? It’s impossible.

Flogger does not even understand the difference between fighter role and ground attack role which is clearly mentioned in the Website. 1200KM fighter radius and 700KM Ground strike radius.

apperantly you’re an idiot, go back to PDF.

MAX RANGE / Ferry range 864 nautical miles 2,037 km

Yes thats the ferry range, combat radius is significantly less. There is no way the FC-1 can have a combat radius over 900km. I would expect something like anywhere between 600-800km.

I agree with Flogger, 600km seems like the likely combat radius, not 1200km which is ludicrously high for such a small fighter with so little internal fuel, we can expect the FC-1 to have similar range as the Gripen.

Has the Phoenix missile ever shot down anything in anger?

Btw, the Phoenix was just retired by the USN, passing of an era.

It has, in Iraq-Iran war, and I believe a lot of Iraqi fighters like mig-23s and Mirage F-1s. Check ACIG for a lot more info but as it appears Phoenix was highly successfull.

You really cannot say the Flanker is a failure because the R-27 is a failure(maybe, maybe not), Flanker is merely a platform, where it can be fitted with different systems. Ok so the Su-30 is unproven, aren’t a lot of weapon systems out there that you and other people always wave on about?

That was the case back during the Cold War when it was always claimed that NATO pilots had more flying hours than their WARPACT counterparts, in reality the counting system was a lot different.

In a lot of ways it looks similar to the Yak-130 and the twin tails are similar to that of EM-10 Bielik, I am not saying a copy but it was probably just influenced by this designs.

It looks promising, though not much info.

note the 1200KM radius and 3500KM range with larger antenna and Stealthness its prominent features. this should be the most trusted source as it is for export they cannot manipulate this things that much.

Yahoo, please go back to PDF, PLEASE, I did not think you were that dumb but your “Stealthness its prominent features” comment gave it away, ohhh and you gave it away again
“this should be the most trusted source as it is for export they cannot manipulate this things that much.” lol of course, export firms always do this, they twist the facts around, hahahaha. 1200km radius? yahh right

With only 2200 kg of internal fuel and an external payload of 3600 kg max, how far can you go with a useful payload? I’ll say it again. Don’t waste your time with him.

and stick 3 large fuel tanks on it and it’s payload goes down to who knows how much as well as drag.

I can see, this is a waste of time.
