…however, after all that, I’d choose a nice woman any time!
Bmused,
In theory, she should be going back into service. However, her restoration has been problematic and her owners have been somewhat cash-challenged in getting the work done – she’s been at Hurn for two years now, and whilst her engines have all run on an occasional basis, flying revenue earning services has been an illusive goal not helped by the fact that after several years on the ground she’s likely to be a little tempramental the first few times she flies.
For what its worth, her owners Johnson Air did quote on a number of freight charters a while back, but were undercut on a regular basis by Antonov Design Bureau who’s rate for their also unique AN-22 was somewhat lower than Johnson Air could provide the CL-44O for. So, work continues on her at a slow pace and its hoped she’ll still earn her keep again soon.

What is that plane in your avatar? got a bigger pic of it?
What’s that plane??? 😮
You don’t know??? 🙁
Its the Skymonster, or more correctly the one and only Canadair CL-44 converted by Conroy to CL-44O “Guppy” format – she was for many years nicknamed Skymonster. It was converted in the US by Conroy, and used to be based in the UK with Transmeridian Air Cargo (N447T) and then Heavylift (EI-BND). It left the UK and went to Bufallo Airways (EI-BND), Azerbaijan Cargo (4K-GUP), and First International and Johnson Air (9G-LCA) amongst others. After spending several years stored in Smyra, TN, she now back at Bornemouth, UK, awaiting further work. Here’s a few pictures of her:

Maybe on its way to Brum when you saw it… Its operated by MyTravel Lite. If I remember correctly, it was going to be painted in new MYT colours, and then wasn’t!!!

BTW, you wouldn’t happen to be the same skymonster that uses the A.net forums as “CREW” would you?
Yup, that’s me – I’ve tried to get that name on most aviation forums I frequent (its nothing to do with my personality, I assure you, but rather its to do with nikcname of that aeroplane you see against my name here!). Part time photo screener at a.net – very part time right now due to rather heavy real-world work commitments! 😮

EMA has an Aeropark with a number of aircraft in it (Vulcan, Varsity, Canberra, egg-whisks, etc), an “aviation trail” – a footpath all around the airport where views can be had – and several picnic tables situated in an area immediately adjacent to the 27 approach, plus of course the shop in the terminal. Sadly, at the current time, there are no views from within the terminal unless you’re flying.

Fascinating pictures – never been to MDW but I’d like to some day, especially to catch the ATA and the Saabs.
Just a tip… Some of your pics show window reflections. You need to put your camera right up against the window so its touching the glass, and if you’re shooting at an angle to the window you also need to try to shield the gap between the camea and the window at end where the camera is furthest away from the window – use something dark so reflections don’t creep in (it can be a multi-handed job and gets complicated, but its worth trying).

Absolutely excellent work… No idea how you’d go about doing that sort of thing, but I have a lot of respect for those that do!!!
In terms of the liveries themselves, number one does nothing for me (sorry!!!) – probably too PIA-ish. Number two is a little too KLM-ish. Number three is absolutely excellent – that’s the one I’d like to see KE go to!
Andy
Nicely…. Especially like the Jungle Jet with the bird sitting on the tail, and the Duo CRJ – Duo, one of the best airlines ever, and a very sad day when they failed (flew on G-DUOE several times)!
Andy
Fake air-to-airs!!! 😮 :p
Saw the DHL 757 doing visual circuits and as a result making very early right turns, and I thought “I know where I’ll get some nice pics of that from…” Took about 20 pics of it whilst it did more than 10 circuits – it got boring after I while!!!
Thanks for the compliments though guys – appreciate it! 🙂

PS: I’ve done Howard Beach at JFK too… Oneday I’ll upload a few that haven’t been on a.net
PPS: If any of you’ve seen the Travel Channel/Discover Wings program on Concorde’s retirement, I’m the English guy on the beach at JFK rattling on about the damned thing – still haven’t seen it myself, although many have said to me “hey, you were on telly”!!!
There was an Israeli Air Force 707 in MAN at the back-end of this last week…
MYT have at least two A320s in Europe this summer, as they have done for a number of summers now – C-GDTK and C-GDTL have both been photographed by myself at EMA this summer, and it seems like C-FTDF may have been kicking around too. SSV also fly their A330 to PMI and other Spanish destinations quite regularly each summer, and have a JetStream 31 based in Europe to ferry the A330 crews around.

VLM does Jersey (Jersey Travel Service, I think) every Saturday…
Eh lad, its not the same as it used to be! When I warra young un working for British Midland, we sometimes had seven flights a day to Jersey from EMA. Now we get all these imposters!
Andy
Tom,
LOL!!! Yeah, probably a bit like Leeds! We only have one Jet2 a day though – always G-CELY from BFS about 2000, does some post office flights, then goes back to BFS.
Currently we have one SSV A320 and one regular MYT A320 (last night was G-KKAZ). Most of our traffic is Baby, Easy, BMI Regional, Ryanair and Eastern on schedules, plus Brit, MyTravel, First Choice and Tommy Cook charters. Then we get the oddies – Saturday is Tyrolean (CRJ), Balkan Holidays (A320), VLM to Jersey, KLM the same, Hola (733)… In the week there’s Air Europa, Pegasus, Air Malta, Excel, Futura, etc… The excitement never stops [JOKE!]. Unfortunately, the interesting freight movements like the Luftwaffe MD-11s land after dark!
Andy
Most “real” airlines still provide hot towels… If you ever get offered one on Ryanair, you’ll know they’ve just launched their next new innovation – passengers clean the aircraft to help reduce costs!!!
