Ren Frew,
Air Bridge Carriers became Hunting Cargo Airlines, which subsequently became Air Contractors (now of Ireland – 727, A300 and ATR operator). Echo Sierra as depicted was the only Vanguard to make it into HCA’s colours – all the rest stayed in the white, red and black Air Bridge colours. Sadly Echo Sierra wasn’t saved – at one time it seemed like she’d go into the Aeropark at EMA – but was cut up, with only the nose surviving today in the forementioned Aeropark. One former Air Bridge / Hunting Vanguard lives on, at the Brooklands museum.

Just a few more…
Just a few more…
The Delta ad was also played in the UK (in English of course). Adeamus by Karl Jenkins in the music – made his name actually!
OMG, now I feel old… Great stuff, but they’d never get away with that today, would they!!!

LoCos don’t usually do same day return checkin because once they’ve checked you in they have an obligation to do something if things go wrong… If they make you wait until the evening to checkin, if they find they have to cancel the flight for any reason (which recently Baby has not been averse to doing!) then they don’t have any obligations – they can just send the passengers away and tell them to come back tomorrow.
ANdy
Yup… They did it with EMA-BRU, no reason why the rest shouldn’t in the fullness of time. A large number of reglar business passengers that have gone down the road to BHX because they don’t want the huge queues at EMA, they don’t want the hassle of Baby not allowing return same day checkin, they want through checkin and baggage to other destinations, they want to be able to change their tickets without penalty or hassle, they don’t want the crap service Baby provides for what is often no lower a ticket price than BA charge ex BHX if they book at short notice. And they want the frequent flyer miles, the express (gold/silver card) checkin, and the lounges. What BMI did by changinf to Baby at EMA was push the vast majority of high-yield traffic to other airports, BHX especially, leaving Baby with all the lower yielding stuff. Baby is not performing anywhere near as well at EMA as they are at MAN and its the leisure routes that are really holding them up – over time they’ll move more capacity into MAN (and maybe LGW if that works out well) at the expense of EMA. They will pull off more of the business routes – its just a matter of time.
Andy
He doesnt have any 😀
Paul (Also a nasty Screener)
Thanks for that Paul…! 😡 Haven’t you got anything better to do – like taking pictures at dull old Farnborough!
Andy
PS: Hope someone’s processed your Farnborough pics in the a.net queue, because you’ll be getting a few rejects if not! :p
Phuket Air’s 747 was parked up in the Arizona desert in March when I saw it – I hope its been given a bit of a spruce up before you fly on it! :p
Shame FR haven’t battered them off the DUB route actually… What we need at NEMA is for Baby to foxtrot oscar as far as the business routes are concerned, leave the low-fare market to FR and Easy, and for Regional to come back with the JungleJets on routes like GLA, EDI, DUB, BFS, AMS, CDG.

LAX is the biz – always!!! EI use EI-DAA on most of their LAX flights – its the only one they have with seat back video, so its not a bad flight. And as Ren says, clearing US immigration in DUB is awesome as it saves a huge amount of time standing in lines in the US. Only time I flew EI to the US was several years ago – DUB-JFK on 747-130 EI-BED which was in all-economy config with something like 450 seats, but still one of the best trans-Atlantics I’ve ever done.

1) Whats the security like at Palma? ( Do you get moved by police)
2) Is it easy to get to that place where you took the photos?
Britannia,
There are a few established places at PMI where people go for photos – PM or e-mail me if you need the details. Police and airport security pass by these locations on regular patrols but never bother the photographers – I’ve been to PMI for a weekend once on each of the last three years, and never even had to talk to the police never mind got any bother. Biggest problem is not the police, but no shade – sunburn is a serious issue!
Most Palma places need a car, or I suppose a pedal cycle, as the distances aren’t too great but are too far to walk from any bus routes or from the hotels. Good thing is hire cars are really cheap, still bad news though if you don’t have a licence. To illustrate, we used a grand total of 10 Euros of petrol in three days including a trip to the GA airfield at San Bonet (sp?) which is 10km away. I guess that’s around 2 gallons – just too far for walking, unfortunately.
Andy
So if I can persuade the webmaster to open up a forum on here to discuss aviation photography would you be willing to pass on some of your knowledge and experiences to the many budding aviation snappers to be found here and across the other Key Publishing forums ?
I’ve PM’d you!
Andy
Hmmm… ‘BD in service… Need another ride on BMI then.
Fascinating pics by the way – most jeallous of the SyrianAir as I’ve never caught one of their SPs. Seems like a trip to MAN is in order!
Andy
PS: EAL flying several 737s at the moment, as there were three in PMI last weekend and non of those were the Palmair machine
MTL was just OK… Thurday night BHX-PMI was dreadful, but that was because it was a delayed departure to 21:00 and most of the pax were already p**sed before they got on. Return was quieter and more tollerable! Of the low-cos I’ve flown on, I put EasyJet at #1 (especially the A319s – flew EasySwiss EMA-GVA a few weeks ago), BMIBaby at #2, MyTravelLite at #3. Never flown Ryan (don’t want to either), or any of the others!!!

PS: Air Berlin 737-700 in the 7E7 / Dreamliner will be at Farnborough, for those who are going
