Photorescue on a PC, coupled with a PC card reader.

    http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/

Try the free demo first. If it works, all well and good, buy the software. If it doesn’t, what have you lost?

Worked for me – amazing bit of software that recovered all of my images from a card that neither the camera nor the PC would read.

PS: Having “rescued” the photos, it even allowed me to reformat the card and I am still happily using it without incident three years later.

bmi have leased PH-MCV for a year… It will be operating MAN-ANU, MAN-BGI and MAN-LAS until the A330 heavy checks are complete, and then it will transfer to LHR to operate LHR-RUH and LHR-JED. Whilst the 767 is at MAN, there will be only one bmi A330 based at MAN.

Many airlines won’t let you book 19 in the normal way due to the revenue at risk if plans change… If you’re doing it as one booking, you’ll probably need to talk to the airline (group bookings).

bmi, British Airways and Lufthansa are all I know of.

Lufthansa don’t fly between London and Manchester – they do however have a code share on the British Midland flights.

Aha! As far as piloting is concerned, not so much the first solo (I do remember that – I remember looking down and seeing the mainwheel stop spinning just after I’d taken off and thinking “Well, I better not f**k up the next landing!”) but rather I remember the flight when I completed the GFT as it was then – when I effectively “passed” the PPL. I remember also driving away from the flying club (we learned to fly in the USA) and “Cocomo” by the Beach Boys was on the radio. Hearing that song now always brings back memories of that GFT, and the strange sense of elation I had as a result of actually achieving something that a few months earlier I never dreamed I’d do.

As far as passenger flights are concerned, too many… Concorde from Heathrow to New York (G-BOAA on 26th February 1991), several jump seat rides on BMA DC-9s and Fokker 100s with some great drivers when I worked at the airline, Curtiss C-46 Commando CP-746 flying through the Bolivian Cordillera at over 16000′ with the emergency exits removed and no seats, or just the great flight and great crew in F-class on a UA 777 flight LHR-JFK last year.

Aha! We already have a PA-28 booked for that date. Sadly, the grump-bag at the flying club will not be happy if we have the a/c for 4.5 hours and only fly it from East Midlands to Leicester and back (done that trip in 20 minutes brakes on to brakes off on an occasion when EMA ATC was very helpful!). Maybe we’ll drop in for a quick bite to eat then go on somewhere else…

I don’t see any issue… Its just another departure. They don’t lay concrete for fun – its there to be used. Furthermore, we have no idea whether the departure was done using a de-rated takeoff, and in any case RTOW and performance is calculated to allow for a continue with engine out after the decision speed is reached.

I always imagined that if I won on a normal week, I’d buy myself a nice new Cessna 182, Piper Archer, something like that to fly at weekends… As the money’s gone up, I’ve moved myself up firstly to a Cirrus SR-22, and now I think I’ll go for a Citation if I win this week – I won’t need to fly it myself if I win $100m, so the fact that I haven’t got a multi-rating will be irrelevent! 😉

Other than that, I think I might start myself an airline if I won – I’ll call it Alpha Too! 🙂

I wonder what that nasty little man in Ireland will think of next (or copy next)?

Whilst I accept on-line checkin is generally a good idea, charging for checked baggage is NOT. Online checkin will not, however, as Ryanair claim alleviate boarding gate queues but merely change the order in which people stand in them.

Pay-for-baggage will merely result in more people trying to cram more stuff into overhead bins to avoid the charge, making the entire boarding/deboarding experience much less pleasant for everyone.

Whilst the claim of reducing fares is laudible, just like their claim that they do not have a fuel charge, it is misleading as Ryanair do not publish fares or have fare caps – it is thus impossible to tell whether they have reduced fares and in fact they can increase average fares invisibly simply by limiting the number of reduced fares available. Finally though, I do look forward to Ryanair reducing the price of its £0.99 tickets by £2.50 – it would seem reasonable to assume that they will now PAY THE PASSENGER £1.51 for buying such a ticket! :diablo:

I suspect that much of this will be revenue positive for Ryanair – many passengers will either buy the “check in baggage” in advance just to be sure, and then on the day of travel if they find they don’t need checked bags I suspect Ryanair won’t be giving any refunds… Or they won’t buy the checked bag option thinking they can make do with carry on, and then on the day find they need to take a checked bag and will get stiffed for £5.00 instead of £2.50.

Well done Ryanair – you seem to be determined to make the entire travel experience less pleasant and more stressful, and you continue to find ways to extract more money from your most vulnerable customers – those who do not travel regularly. OLCI is a good idea but won’t achieve what you say – as for the rest, I never have travelled with Ryanair and this just decreases the likelihood that I ever will.

Neither of them has flown in over a year (both last flew in 2004), but their engines are run to keep them vaguely healthy. Alas, I do not think we’ll see them flying again for Atlantic – the ATP-Fs now coming online are not too far short of being able to perform the missions the Six did.

Never heard a “suicidal” pilot on UA – in fact, the lady captain on yesterday’s flight from LHR to SFO sounded positively pleasant… And there was plenty of space in the overhead bins! 😉
