and in the end, took advantage of the Indians paying for it! that would be evil. yet I think they might well be capable of that!
Russia will have to pay us back the 500 million we already paid then. Oh and we will return their Mig 29Ks as well
There will be no “PAK-FA”….naval or otherwise. Its just waaaaaay too expensive.
It will cost less than the Raptor and F 35. It will probably be less expensive than the typhoon. Russians are being smart here, developing the PAK FA version they want to without considering Indian needs and then for the Naval and double-seat variants doing a 50-50 partnership with India. So HAL would be funding/helping them make a Naval and two seated variant of an already existing fighter. Excellent.
It would make sense to produce more Migs 29KUBs and keep the line running than to upgrade the old Su 33s ( which are not many in number ). May be they can sell them to China as pointed out, I doubt they will though.
Nah because the Mig 29 Ks/KUBs are more capable and smaller than the current fleet of SU 33s which would require extensive upgrades to be viable in the near future. The Mig 29Ks are already upgraded and add the Zhuk AE you will get a very formidable platform :). May be the Kuznet can carry more Mig 29Ks than it can Su 33s.
India may not have had any problem with EUMs at all if it was US ally and had stable relations with them, common foreign policy, even allowed US bases etc. But unfortunately none of this is true. i am not talking about present situation but over the last 30 to 50 years.
That is not as far away as you think. It could change drastically if the third front comes to power If and only if….
I do not expect an all out row because of China helping America with the economy (which is for her on benefit as well) The need of the hour may mean petrols further away from China and less confrontations.
Thats very good news send a few more escort ships and keep the Chinese at bay.
The U.K is likely to be part of any major War/Conflict involving Amerca and its allies. So its safe to say if there is a war with China over taiwan (which is unlikely an all out war ie.) she will be involved. If its a naval skirmish I think the USN and its allies in the region would do the bussiness on their own.
Chinese ships ‘harass’ US vessel
US Navy photo of the USNS Impeccable
The US says the Impeccable was conducting routine manoeuvresFive Chinese ships have manoeuvred dangerously close to an unarmed US navy surveillance vessel in the South China Sea, the US government says.
US officials said the incident on Sunday came after days of “increasingly aggressive” acts by Chinese ships.
These violated international law on respecting other users of the seas, a Pentagon spokesman said.
As Beijing kept silent, the US made a formal complaint to China’s military attache at the Pentagon.
The incident happened as the USNS Impeccable was on routine operations in international waters 75 miles (120km) south of Hainan island, a US statement said.
The ships “aggressively manoeuvred” around the Impeccable “in an apparent co-ordinated effort to harass the US ocean surveillance ship while it was conducting routine operations in international waters”, according to the Pentagon.
Impeccable is designed specifically to detect underwater threats such as submarines for the US navy.
Aggressive manoeuvring by ships by rival navies in sensitive international waters is not uncommon but Washington was sufficiently disturbed by the incident involving the Impeccable to make its concerns public, the BBC’s Kevin Connolly reports from Washington.
Emergency stop
The US ship sprayed one Chinese vessel with water from fire hoses to try to force it away, the Pentagon said.
MapBut the Chinese crew stripped to their underwear and carried on approaching to within 25ft (8m), it added.
The Pentagon identified the Chinese boats as a naval intelligence-gathering ship, a Bureau of Maritime Fisheries Patrol Vessel, a State Oceanographic Administration patrol vessel, and two small trawlers.
When the Impeccable radioed requesting a safe path to leave the area, two Chinese vessels dropped pieces of wood in its path, forcing the US ship to make an emergency stop, the Pentagon said.
“The unprofessional manoeuvres by Chinese vessels violated the requirement under international law to operate with due regard for the rights and safety of other lawful users of the ocean,” said Pentagon spokesman Marine Maj Stewart Upton.
“We expect Chinese ships to act responsibly and refrain from provocative activities that could lead to miscalculation or a collision at sea,” he said.
The Pentagon reported three other naval incidents involving China last week:
* On Wednesday, a Chinese Bureau of Fisheries Patrol vessel used a high-intensity spotlight to illuminate the ocean surveillance ship USNS Victorious in the Yellow Sea and, the next day, a Chinese Y-12 maritime surveillance aircraft conducted 12 fly-bys of Victorious
* On Thursday, a Chinese frigate approached Impeccable without warning and crossed its bow at a close range of approximately 100m (yards), after which a Y-12 aircraft conducted 11 fly-bys. The frigate later crossed the US ship’s bow again
* On Saturday, a Chinese intelligence collection ship challenged Impeccable over bridge-to-bridge radio, calling her operations illegal and directing her to leave the area or “suffer the consequences”.

Really the people who believe that there will be no conflicts between major powers again are really 🙁 wrong. Thankfully the governments are prepared as always 🙂
Russia is still an ally. it always has been. they’ve been trying to gouge India by making more money, but they’ve never backstabbed India. as for France, its strategic interest lies in making money, thats all. If Pakistan offered more, it’d offer it the same stuff offered to India. but, because of that, they’re reliable suppliers and don’t kowtow to US pressure when it comes to defence deals. and remember, these two countries are hte only ones that backed India after the nuclear tests- almost a litmus test of which countries are our real allies and which are simply fair-weather friends.
1. Russia was for long allied to India. But offlate her interests in many areas does not coincide with India’s. Her warming of ties with China supplying engines to Pakistani jets etc have irked India. In the long term Russia is going to fade out as our strategic ally.
2. France like I said have been good to us. French programmes tho cost a lot of money and like they said their weapon proliferation rate is rather high as they would offer the weapons to almost anyone with the money. Now France will play fair for the moment, but her relationship was not tested in times of a serious war. Like I said when Israel went to war with the Arabs they put restrictions on weapon supplies, same with Argentina going to war with the Brits.
3. How did the United States back stab India ? India was hardly a U.S ally during the time of our nuclear adventure in the late 1990s. I am not saying that they will not impose sanctions on us if we explode another device now, they may as well. What I am saying is that if the relationship becomes really strong and when we are serious military ally, then the chances of sanctions are very unlikely, Americans will themselves make excuses for us as for why we exploded etc.. You can see this in case of Israel, America finds an excuse for good and bad things they do.
Does Army said that the Brahmos failed to meet their requirements???!!!! As far as news report are concerned, they are analyzing the data but seems like you have gone to a conclusion!
Do you know what are the operational requirements of IA?? Does they want some mythical system??? I think you about the capabilities of Brahmos Block-II. Than no company/org in this world will be able to meet IA’s requirements. But IA is pretty happy with Russian systems like T-90S, which failed many times still inferior!!
The last time they tried to tell the Army it was a success when it failed. So this time they have every right to double and triple check the result. As for the T 90s Saga, while I do believe the Arjun is a superior platform, the T 90s is not inferior. It depends on from who you hear it from. According to some it is as good as the Abrams while others consider it has deisgn flaws like the T 72s resulting in turrent explosions. We will have to wait till we take it to battle, as of now its too expsensive to be testfired upon.
From where ToT things comes for a JV!!!! Who said the Indian component is just guidance system?? We are dependent on Russia and Russia is also dependent on us for the missile that is a JV or joint development!! You do not know whether the Russians themselves asked for ToT of the guidance systems or not!!! lol
The Russians do not need Indian guidance systems. They it seems don’t even need the missile. Their commitment to the Brahmos remains iffy at best. The whole Brahmos thing for me was a Russian exercise at exploiting the Indian need for JVs than outright purchases.
T
here are requirements of short range, high accuracy, high speed and intellegent missile for battle field. The Brahmos if properly used can change the course of war with in minutes as it is unstoppable with extreme lethality. As a precision weapon, capable of engaging time critical targets at high precision under all weather conditions. It can take out high value targets like missile launch pads, SAM/radar sites, oil depot with SEAD. The US has developed the ATACMS and the Israelis developed LORA for same purpose.
It is better served us taking out small single targets like ships etc, than large targets a conventional cruise missile can take out. Its short range is another handicap making the Launch platforms vulnerable. I would even take something like the Babur over Brahmos anyday. It has better range and payload, add that with some good terrain hugging guidance and its a winning combo.
