The cost will be the biggest limiting factor of the typhoon. It depends on how EADS can do with the offsets as well. They will need to commit themselves to faster A2G integration and AESA.

Another limiting factor is the ACM stating that the Aircraft should have what ‘we’ asked for at the time of evaluation, for me that means curtains for the Gripen NG and possibly the Eurofighter.

The American Jets leads the pack as far as I am concered followed by the MIG and then Rafale. Rafale would have topped it if it wasn’t for their indifferent marketing of the plane (not just in Indian context but world wide).

I did not say it won’t or cannot be updated, just that the MKI might not upgrade as well over the next twenty or thirty years in total. I assume the platform to hit diminishing returns quicker and harder in that regard.

Ok I understand. I will take the Viper over the Super Hornet as it would be cheaper to operate (single engine) and should do nearly as well in the strike role. 🙂

While I agree with your general points i disagree on this.

Typhoon and F-18 deliver seems to scale well (or at least better) into the future. MKI technology, not so much.

They are already in talks over the MKI upgrade with better engine and Ibris-E. I think India will upgrade it continuosly till PAK FA takes over.

As opposed to the F-35 fanboys we see here?

They are stating the obvious evolution that a fifth generation stealthy design is superior to the 4++ European ones. The European fanboy claims defies logic.

The PAK-FA I have no doubt will be better than any fourth generation fighter including the Euro canards. I think it will be between the F 35 and F 22 in Air Superiority role. When it comes down in numbers the Europeans will probably buy more F 35s to counter it.

Harsh words for someone who actually don’t even comprehend most of the data/information available to him.

Childish personal attacks. You can do better than that. I said European fanboys, no need to feel offended if you are not one.

Its highly comical isn’t it, the ultimate in fanboy mentality.

The worst are the European fan boys. Because they do not have a stealth fighter design in the tunnel even (unlike Russia, China, India) they will undermine stealth and big up EW measures big time. 😮

    Clearly, a beautiful fighter………….Yet, I think I can beat it!

(Well, if not in looks in capabilities.)

    Indeed 😎

I think the problem here is not that Russia is not capable of building a very capable and stealthy 5th Generation Fighter. The point is to do so considering the lack of funding after the break up of the former Soviet Union. Russia would have to make a commitment on the scale of the Manhattan Project to catch up. Which, from the available sources has not even come close……

Let’s not forget that Russian Military can’t afford to scrap old rusting nuclear submarines, upgrade old aircraft, buy new aircraft, or build any major fleet units. Yet, we are to believe she can match the US great lead in Stealth Technology…………..

There is a lot of things that are classified that we do not know about. There are different means to catch up, including espionage. I have told you that the American forces do not doubt the Russian ability to match the F 22 with their own design. Neither should you, if a fourth generation fighter is doable so is a fifth gen.

Russians are practical and that was the only reason we didn’t see B2 like stealth Bombers. Because they could operate 10 Bears for the same cost. Also bear in mind that Russians do not necessarily need to spend as much money as Americans do in developing a similar platform. They have never done so in the past and is likely not to do again.

While i believe America will retain an edge because of its superior wealth and defense budget, I expect Russia to make a very competitive fifth gen fighter. But like I said (U.S may already have 6th gens operational by then).

I don’t doubt the F 35 is a good dogfighter, It should be if its like a clean F 16 (which can still give the TVCd flankers a hell of a hard time) but it better be a good dogfighter because I don’t subscribe to the fact that all future engagements are going to be strictly BVR. Even pilots do not expect it to be so.

One thing I am sure about is that Russia may hand over airframes but it do not give China the latest tech, the same is not the case with India. Till the Chinese develop their BARS or Ibris or some AESA equivalant the Indian MIG 29K Fulcrums should have an edge (especially if fitted with Zhuk AE AESA).

Sorry, you are the one in need of reality. If, you for a second believe anything except the Raptor is superior to the Lightning in the Air Superority Role. Especially, the Typhoon or Rafale………….not even in the same league.

    With all do respect………;)

It even amazes me how people bigs up non stealth designs like the Typhoon and Rafale as better in A2A than the F 35 😡

I can only speculate. The F 35 B is custom built for this role from the outset. PAK FAK is likely to be an air superiority fighter ported into a carrier role. Much like the Su 33 or Mig 29K. As long as the Navy operats STOBAR carriers the loads of conventional jets are going to be limited. Even the Mig 29K can only operate with a limited load from the Vikramaditya.

Navy has its own logistics, the harrier is only operated by the Navy for example. Now with the limited deck size and superior load the F 35B can carry on take off, and the near-auromated vertical landing I think it will be by far the best choice.

Did I deny that? You want me to put words in your mouth like you apparently do? The point was to show the people who accuse are hypocrites themselves.

He only asked whether China is in that list ?

    You looking in the mirror?

    rofl lol lol

Didn’t know Bharat Rakshak was being run by Pakistanis

    http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/MISSILES/Prithvi.html

“The two Prithvi liquid engines are derived from scaling down the 30-ton Valiant engine and scaling up the Russian V-755 engine used by SA-2 surface-to-air missile,”

Derived from, means with the blessing of Russians. Remember Russia was even willingly going to supply us with Cryogenic engines for space programme before U.S blocked it. If Russia thought we ripped it off they would have said it already, so far there ain’t even a rumor.

Yep, then Russians should simply put up and shut up if they still want to sell stuff and make money. After all the same company opened up their office in China for customer ease of access. You would think these guys would be making a case for trade sanctions.

Its like they want to sell all they can before the Chinese copies achieve maturity. The engines are sold because the Chinese replacements are not ready. Why not make money while you can ?

Ditto! When every nation does it when it suits them then don’t pick on others and act like compelete saints.

Our government/us are saints when it comes to respecting IPR.

It’s common knowledge and noone denies it. Do you really think Russians dont know it or they are keeping mum because they have cash cow to milk? If you are going to come up with this kinda arguement then you should also ask the same Sukhoi cheif why the heck is he and his country selling other stuff to China.

    1. What I claimed was backed up with a source.

    2. What you claim is pure speculation. Common knowledge for a few many Pakistanis who would like to believe that everything India develops is Russian because they can sleep better believing that.

    3. The reasons for Russia selling stuff to China was clearly explained multiple times.

is China also in this top 5?

They are number 1 in that list. Pot Kettle Black !

Al I have to say to all that is that’s all your spin. The same arguments you make can be said of India. India commits massive human rights violations especially with that caste system. But the US and the West says virtually nothing because they need India against China. Does that mean India doesn’t violate human rights?

You are taking this argument grotesquely out of topic but I will answer this just once. I admit that there is human right violations in India and i am personally against it. Our government also tries its best. You know because our free media and the free western media reports it. We do not have the tallest buildings and shiniest of streets to hide whats inside. India you see is what India is, with everything good, bad and ugly about it.

More superficial nonsense? If you violate intellectual property rights, it means you steal.

There is a huge difference between people illegally sharing software music and videos and when established companies copy intellectual property. That is not taken likely here and western firms have one numerous law suits and compensations of companies which tried it. Not many do it.
