Raptorish I would say. Victor better post it in the IAF thread mate, this thread is going to die soon after AI is over.
edit: done that.
Indian air force to receive BrahMos cruise missiles in 2012
BANGALORE (India), February 12 (RIA Novosti) – The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile will be commissioned by the Indian air force in 2012, the head of the BrahMos Aerospace company said on Thursday.
Established in 1998, BrahMos Aerospace, a joint Indian-Russian venture, produces and markets BrahMos supersonic missiles, whose sea-based and land-based versions have been successfully tested and put into service with the Indian army and navy.
“The [BrahMos] missile will be put in service in 2012,” the company’s CEO, Sivathanu Pillai said, presenting the airborne version of the missile at the Aero India-2009 air show in India.
The BrahMos missile has a range of 290 km (180 miles) and can carry a conventional warhead of up to 300 kg (660 pounds). It can effectively engage ground targets from an altitude as low as 10 meters (30 feet) and has a top speed of Mach 2.8, which is about three times faster than the U.S.-made subsonic Tomahawk cruise missile.
“For the airborne version…we had to reduce the mass of the missile and to ensure aerodynamic stability after its separation from the aircraft. The air-launched platform has its own initial speed during the launch of the missile, so we have reduced the size of the booster. Now the missile is ready,” Pillai told RIA Novosti in an exclusive interview last year.
The Indian Air Force had chosen Russian-made SU-30 MKI Flanker-H multirole fighter as a trial platform for the missile, but it will take up to four years to complete the upgrade of the aircraft so that it can carry and launch BrahMos missiles, the official added.
India is planning to produce at least 140 Su-30MKI fighters by 2014 under a Russian license with full technology transfer rights.
Analysts estimate that India could purchase up to 1,000 BrahMos missiles for its armed forces in the next decade, and export 2,000 to other countries during the same period.
During a visit by Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov to India last year, the two sides agreed to develop a hypersonic version of the missile, to be known as BrahMos-2.
Israel was defeated in the last two wars – Lebanon and Gaza. If a country initiates hostilities and in unable to achieve its objectives, it is a defeat. One unintended consequences of Iraq war is that insurgents were given a template on how to take on and neutralize a much bigger and sophisticated military in an urban environment. The same template was used in Lebanon by Hizbullah and by Hamas in Gaza. In both operations Israel forces were neutralized. The attack on Mumbai was also a testing of the same template. In military terms it was “reconnaissance in force”. For days 10 lightly armed men brought a city of 15 million to its knees. Just imagine what will happen if a 100 or 1000 men are infiltrated into a large city. Problem with you is that either you are very immature or you are a conventional thinker whose world view is based on the evening news carried on American networks. In reality the world is a much more complex and the so called centres of power may not be as invulnerable as you think they are. And since when India became the great protector of Israel – It can hardly protect it self. Get a reality check.
Well next time they may not stop when the international community says humanitarian aid and bull****. As for them being defeated. Who said India is a protector of Israel, I am just giving my own opinion, I do not head the Indian govt. India is committed to Palestinian state (that’s the official line to keep the lefties happy) In reality it has defense and economical co-operation with Israel and don’t really give boomerangs about Palestine. If you believe of the official Palestine commitment line, then its you who need a reality check not me.
As for the Infiltration, it was planned in Pakistan for months and carried out with deliberate precision. India needs to strengthen its police force and special forces, no disrespect to them the NSGs and others were poorly equipped, this will not happen again.
Again there is no need to drag India into this while I am talking about Israel. Israel only stopped the wars because its headed by a moderate government and buckled under international pressure. If a Nethanyahu-Libreman alliance comes to power there, then you can be rest assured they will not stop even if the whole international community cries foul.

Lockheed Martin selects Raytheon for F-16 protection suite, which the company described as the “world’s most advanced electronic warfare system”.
indian Air Force (IAF) order for 126 combat jets just got hotter with US defence major Lockheed Martin opting to equip its F-16IN Super Viper with electronics giant Raytheon’s protection suite, which the company described as the “world’s most advanced electronic warfare system”.
The two companies announced the tie-up on the sidelines of the seventh edition of the Aero India international air show that opened here Wednesday. The advanced counter measures electronic system (ACES) comprises a radar-scanning receiver, a jammer and a chaff and flare dispenser, as well as a decoy that is towed behind the aircraft.
“It is pretty exciting that Lockheed Martin has taken us for the entire system. What we offer is the world’s most advanced electronic warfare system,” Mike Henchey, Raytheon’s vice president for Space and Airborne Systems, told IANS.
“Wonderful things are happening for India. This shows India has the opportunity to come to Raytheon for the most advanced systems to meet its needs,” he added.
According to Orville Prins, Lockheed Martin’s vice president for business development in India, Raytheon’s electronic warfare systems “represent the latest technology and the best value solution for India.
“The Raytheon aircraft self-protection equipment helps make Lockheed’s Super Viper the right solution for India’s air force,” he added.
The F-16 is one of the six aircraft in the fray for the IAF order. The others are the Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, the French Rafale, the Swedish Gripen, the Russian MiG-35 and the Eurofighter Typhoon built by a four-nation European conglomerate.
The tender was floated in 2007 and the bids were opened last April.
The field trials of the six aircraft are to begin soon and slated to last for a year as the jets have to be tested in a variety of climatic conditions ranging from the deserts of Rajasthan to the icy heights of Leh in Jammu and Kashmir.
here is more information on aces

I have a question. Does the block 60 have the same suite or is it supplied by Northrop.
And India has invited Boeing and LM to quote for the MRCA!
Totally different issues. And having more competitors even if not chosen will bring the price down for the selected aircraft, gives you more room to bargain etc.
I hope you are right but I have my doubts. If the problems are minor, why can’t ADA fix them quickly?
ADA have to meet the IAF timescale or could end up losing the project after all these years. I think its a matter of them leaving nothing to chance. It will also speed up the MK2 induction date.
There are so many new pictures that instead of posting them inline, I think this is the best way to go.

Not aviation related I know, but what rifle are those special forces troops carrying? I don’t believe I’ve seen it before.

fokker said the name before me so I am posting the video 😉
Steep climbs, the ability to fly inverted, high gravity turns and loops evoked praise? They have not been demonstrated in displays before, many years after first flight?
Surprising spectators and the minister, it only means, the first time they did it in airshows.
So after all these years the Tejas still has multiple shortcomings but is due to enter service in 2011? It’s a bit late to bring in a design consultant at this stage, isn’t it? It sounds like ADA should have done so years ago.
They did bring in Boeing but the U.S government asked them not to co-operate EADS is the second consultant.
Time for a bit of glasnost where the LCA is concerned?
The aircraft do not need resdisgn. the problems stated are minor and it will be fixed. EADS is here to help stop further delays thats all.
Israel stopped the Lebanon war because of international pressure. Their war record is impeccable and the Arabs have tried and failed how many times ? If there were to be desserations it would have happend before as well. Turkey and Pakistan fighting Israel is an Arab pipedream. As for the latter has its hands full with insurgency, India and a U.S administration that can be belligerant with anyone who harms Israel.

Aero India 09, Yelahanka, Bangalore
Business Standard, 12th February 09At the opening of the Aero India 09 defence exposition today, Defence Minister AK Antony clearly enjoyed what must have seemed like a wild-west style shootout. One after another, four contenders for India’s purchase of 126 medium fighters — the Eurofighter Typhoon, the F/A-18, the F-16 and the MiG-35 — took to the skies in a fiesta of aerobatics clearly aimed at impressing the decision-makers who must decide which aircraft will win the $12 billion contract.
But the performance that evoked Mr Antony’s praise was that of the Indian-built Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA). Although more cautious than the all-out performances of the established fighters, the Tejas went far beyond anything it had ever displayed before, surprising the spectators with steep climbs, an inverted pass, high-gravity turns and loops.
Addressing the press, Mr Antony remarked, “I was very excited to see the LCA. After many years we could see the LCA doing manoeuvres… I was excited to see the Indian-made LCA in Indian skies.”
But even amidst success, the Tejas LCA is struggling to overcome major development hurdles. Its maker, Bangalore-based Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) has taken the crucial decision to bring in a design consultant, a global aerospace major that would assist HAL to overcome persistent design glitches that dog the LCA, including fuel distribution, uneven braking, flight controls, environment controls and testing. And while US-based Boeing has declined to supply such know-how, German-Spanish consortium, EADS, one of the makers of the Eurofighter, has aggressively pursued the consultancy as a way of flying into the Indian market.
In multiple interviews with senior Indian and EADS officials who requested anonymity, Business Standard has pieced together the EADS strategy. The company has decided to supply India with high technology for Indian products that are not directly competing with an EADS product. The Tejas is not in the same category as the heavier Eurofighter.
Having established its presence in the Tejas programme, EADS is confident that it would be well positioned to get its Eurojet EJ200 engine accepted for the Tejas. India is currently deciding between the EJ200 and the GE-414 engine for powering future squadrons of the Tejas.
And EADS believes that winning the contract for the EJ200 engine, and producing it in India, would position it perfectly for the lucrative medium fighter contract; twin EJ200 engines power the Eurofighter.
While willing to part with the technology assistance needed to get the LCA over its hump, EADS worries about the possibility of eventually being held responsible for a possible failure in the Tejas development.
“Let’s be clear that we are not underwriting the LCA programme”, says a senior European official related with the contract. Another likens EADS’s role to helping someone in a dark room turn on the light switch. But EADS will do no more than indicate the direction of the switch.
The German and Spanish governments have already permitted EADS to part with the technology needed for the Tejas programme; the US government, in contrast, imposed stringent restrictions on Boeing. Explains a senior EADS official, “If we don’t supply technology, India will develop it anyway, perhaps with some delay. So it is better for us to establish our presence here, partner India in the Tejas, and perhaps even market it together.”
All of a sudden the world looks bright and shiny for the Eurofighter.
A US plane will be chosen due to politics. No point spending too much money on the competition.
If its pure politics then Rafale would be chosen, as its a centrist choice away from Russia and U.S.
Are there any Tejas in (active) service with IAF yet? Or do these birds belong to HAL, or something like that? Nice to see it flying anyhow!
Not in active service yet. Should belong to ADA/HAL>
Why … ??? I don’t think that LM will develop and build a machine only for that competition … maybe the will bring one of the F-16E/E with some modifications but surely not a production model.
Deino
It will need minimalistic modifications from the F 16E/F. The in flight refueling enabled CFTs are already tested, there is nothing that’s if offered to India which is not already in use.
F 16 IN is Block 60++ so it would be far easier and economical than say for MIG to build a production model, so if Mikoyan are doing it I don’t see why Lockheed won’t and can’t.
The Gripen is the only AC that won’t make it in the proposed form.
Only if they get caught. Catching them is not necessarily a good thing for India because in the end all suppliers will be banned and India will have no place to go to buy stuff. Even Lockheed and Boeing have local agents who take care of business – you know what I mean ;). If not, you need a wake up call.
I know what you mean, but with Mr. Antony at the helm this deal is not going to be like that. He is incorruptible.
Lets hope a production F 16IN will be ready for the trials as well. 🙂
